  2. hmmm does not seem to make a difference. tried moving the direction angle, doesnt seem to make a difference either. any other ideas?
  3. Looking through the window the ground looks washed out. I played around with the sunlight but it never looks like the outside camera. Any ideas?

  5. if you go to help->launch help and search for terms, it is pretty good a search for "buy list" returns on the first hit Structural Member Reporting ../../Resources/img/btn/lumberspec.pngStructural Member Reporting allows you to specify how framing members are calculated in the Materials List. Structural Member Reporting supports multiple saved defaults, which means that you can set up different reporting methods for different purposes. See Multiple Saved Defaults. When a Materials List is created, the Currently Active Default specified in the Saved Structural Member Reporting Defaults dialog is used. Once created, the default a Materials List references can be changed using the Structural Member Reporting Control drop-down in the toolbars. See Organizing Materials Lists. There are four Reporting Methods to choose from: Buy List calculates the framing materials of the different structural components of the plan by counting individual pieces and matching them to a list of board sizes that you specify. Cut List calculates the framing materials of the different structural components of the plan by counting the individual pieces present in the model. Linear Length calculates the framing materials of the different structural components of the plan in linear lengths. Mixed Reporting calculates framing materials using a combination of linear lengths and piece counts and is recommended for saved Materials Lists in legacy plans.

"cardboard between the rafters" product are available at the big orange store here. you just fold the sides and the friction holds them in. cheap, easy. and I've seen them a lot here I believe technically they are only required for loose fill. I specify roxul batt for most additions, and as such only specify the min 1" gap above the insulation in the detail
  7. interestingly on this plan I have two different roof pitches and the top plate in the roof plane is changing between them The one roof plane has 216 3/8 top of plate and the other has 219-15/16 for top of plate, but the room is 218-7/8 so i think it is a bug as in the roof dbx the definition is the room The Top of Plate is defined by the ceiling height of the room below and is reported here for reference. N/A displays if no room is below the roof plane.
  8. my room height: my roof: my truss: so 231-3/16 baseline less top plate from room of 218-7/8 = 12-5/16 . Truss heel is 12-5/16" I will note that if your baseline "line" is not actually on the outside of the top plate, you will get odd results. when i first put in these comments my baseline was on the outside of the wall layer (siding) and it was out by 1/2". Once I corrected, the math worked out. note as well any time you move a roof plane up or down you need to open up the truss and check "force rebuild"
  9. For the reason you describe, i've gone to sending images instead of live views to layout for 3d camera. PIA to update though, as you have to resend constantly. I assume you have elevations as plot lines? I have yet to find a nice solution other than lowering the DPI, as you have. I did put in a suggestion that the live camera be configurable to a specific DPI which matches the send as image. i.e. if I can send an image to layout and it is a smaller PDF, then the live camera should be able to adjust itself to do the same.

  11. I run into this all the time, and then I remember I must change the absolute elevations. which is unfortunate because then you have to do math, although the ability to just type in +1' next to the current number helps

  13. not sure I understand, if a normal layout has say 10 pages, and each has a page title such as front elevation, rear elevation, etc, you want 10 different PDFs, each with a filename of the page layout tittle? front elevation.pdf, rear elevation.pdf etc Assuming there is a utility to create individual pdfs from a single pdf (probably comes out as page 1, page 2, etc and then you need to change the filename), then yes I believe this could be done with some scripting

  15. other tip, create a cross section perpedicular to the celing break line. you will then see the problem (turn all layers on in the x section). could be old rafter tail coming down or some other framing. I've seen this situation where I create a roof, and then move the walls (if auto rebuild roofs is off)
  16. I find it useful for as builts as it sets a marker. then you can move walls around for different scenarios. Other than interior dimensions and auto exterior dimensions, I tend to use P2P everywhere else just because you can pick up pretty much wherever, I find it useful for dimensioning center of piles to foundation, and for site plans (where there is an image).
  17. not sure I understand the question. it is a shed roof, with a high side on the right and a sloping ceiling with high side on the right. the one formula gives the height of the wall on the inside stopping at the ceiling plane, the other gives the height of the wall to the roof (through the attic) it would be, I would think, a distinction an interior designer would want to know. I personally just dimension a section for oddball rooms, as opposed to putting it on the plan, and then leave the normal floor height framing dimensions to a storey pole
  18. the wall height is the same there for the two leader lines on the right. It looks like the global wall top elevation macro is going above the ceiling plane (underside of roof rafter maybe??) (191"), where the wall area divided by length is going to the ceiling plane (150") depends on what one wants i guess

  21. did you try %upper_layers[3].area/length% it does assume your third layer in is framing
  22. i think because there can be pony walls, there is no "guranteed" way but I could be wrong. if you run object_properties against the wall you get per below. so if you can find it in there you can just use the property, but if i remember, it is not there.
