  1. Steve, I don't ever use pdfs in my plan, if I do it's for tracing only and once done I delete the pdf. I especially don't use pdfs in my layout. If I have a pdf of a structural detail that I know I will probably be using in the future (or some version of it), I duplicate the detail in Chief using cad and save it to my library. This way I can edit it in the future when needed. Yes, it takes some initial time to do it, but is most helpful in the future and won't slow anything down. Just my two cents. If I need a specific detail from the engineer, my engineer will generally be happy to send me a .dwg. This makes life a lot easier for me. I do however will open a pdf of a survey in Acrobat Reader and take a "snapshot" of what I want. Open a photo editor (i use Paint Shop Pro) and save it as a .tiff file and import that into Chief. for tracing driveways, sidewalks, etc.. Never have a problem with the program slowing down.
  2. What if you delete the .png file?
  3. For the site plan, are you talking about impervious ground coverage?
  4. I would look for something that's in this plan that you normally wouldn't have. You might be using something with a high face count that's slowing you down.
  5. Open your attic walls. They probably aren't set to be attic walls. Change them and it will probably fix it.
  6. Good to know. Thank you.
  7. Select soffit> open>moldings>add molding
  8. Download the trial version and see for yourself. I'm sure very different.
  9. Dianne, I know a lot of people wouldn't do it the way I do but I would place the tall posts manually.
  10. I still say you should try to open an earlier version of the plan. If you can't do anything with any other program as well, then you have a Windows or operating system problem. Depending on the file size, you should be able to post the plan or zip it and post it.
  11. Is it doing it in all plans or is this plan specific?
  12. Have you tried going back and opening an archive plan file from before you put the roof on?
  13. Do not export. Check out File>Print>Print
  14. Check your sub fascia height.
  15. Well to start with, the DWG is 2D. For you to modify and create new elevations, you'll have to redraw the plan in Chief.
  16. You'll need to zoom in real close to the end of the member. When you click on the end, you'll see a handle that will make the snap.
  17. You could always do online meetings to help. I use Team Viewer.
  18. Try doing an orthographic overview (vector overview). It's often easier and will bring it up fast.
  19. That's how I would approach it, However, I've never used two different paper sizes for my layout to be printed for submission.
  20. You can look for an Architect to help you get through the permitting process but if that Architect is not a licensed Structural Engineer as well, you'll still need to get an engineer. If you don't like that engineer, then talk to another one. The bottom line is that you'll have to go with what the engineers calls for if they're signing off on it. It doesn't make a flip what the window company says about the structural.
  21. Sounds like you'll have to have different layout files.
  22. Be sure your layout is set to 1:1. You send your plan view to layout at whatever scale you want.
  23. Looks like your sub fascia is too large. Check it compared to the other side.
  24. David, sounds like a lot of time. It might just be easier and certainly faster to put them on a jump drive and mail it.
  25. Mark, if you just want a fast and easy, down and dirty way to make a pool, use a road poly line and shape it. Assign water to the road and whatever material you want for the curb. Several ways to make a pool depending on what you want to show.
