Rene has talked about this a few years ago. I'm sure he has some updated processes and might drop by shortly. I store ALL chief in dropbox. No issues. Log out of macOS and start up WIN 11 on a different machine and everything is accessing the unified guts of the app, and all my projects.

How to view the Framing in the 3D Viewer App?
para-CAD replied to MichaelMinick's topic in General Q & A
Chief sometimes doesn't frame things as a framing crew would so be careful. Always review before sending it to your team. -
I hope this is received well. This chief site works best as a repository of good, searchable content when Questions and asking "how to" is located in the Q & A section. Typically, people come to the Tips & Techniques section to learn some cool new way to accomplish something new that someone has discovered and is now sharing, not to ask How To but the share How To.

Text Alignment Changing With Different Monitors
para-CAD replied to ACAaron's topic in General Q & A
I had this issue in X7 when I was on a mac and the collaborator was on a windows machine. He thought I was adjusting all the text...........yeah like I would do that to be a troublemaker. /s -
Sucks that instead of being able to use Rich Text without issue, we have to revert to using plain text or resize the offending RT. Might as well remove RT from the app then. /s The /s means sarrrrrrcasm. We need to laugh more

I saw a headline somewhere a few weeks back that the whole energy star program was somewhat of a scam. The headline could have been BS.....I just thought it was funny that so many things we trusted as true, might not have been. Pencils on paper were fun in HS.

macOS has that built in Open in Preview Export to several formats:

I had to frame this for an apartment in WA state. It's the only parapet I've done. I created shop drawings from the plans to get things correct. It was a wall set back from the edge and had a sloped hip roof around the perimeter. Not what you're doing but if it can help...here you go.

Can the area be designed with 3 or 4 attic trusses? See what the truss design guys say. I bet they work with this scenario often in your area.

Is there a key that forces a straight line when using CAD tools?
para-CAD replied to 5Design's topic in General Q & A
Use a rectangular polyline then disconnect and delete the 3 unwanted lines. The rectangle always comes in square. Kind of a lame workaround but it works. -

Weird The Video won't play for me. -
Same experience. Even though it’s 2D, it acts like there is a foreground snap point and a background snap point just a bit off. AutoCAD never does this, and I’m exploring SketchUp pro and it snaps very accurately too. I noticed with CA quite often when I am trying to dimension the run of a jack rafter from outside of framed wall to face of hip or valley. It tries to stop along a centerline of the jack instead of snapping to the long point. If you zoom in to fill the screen with the width of the jack, you can sometimes catch the long point for a point-to-point dimension. Accurate snapping is critical.

Chief’s roof framing is not always as it would actually be done on site. Is such a 3D framing image a requirement for your permit office?

Garage Access Door - Step Down or Not
para-CAD replied to JKEdmo's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
Garages of old have always been cramped. I prefer the deeper garages that fit a full-size truck and then a work bench. Makes for a great place to go to do man-stuff. -
I use a wired Cad Mouse from 3d Connexion. It has the ability to customize the cursor speed per application. It’s pretty crazy to go from fast cursor to slower cursor by just navigating from one application to another.
