  1. I'm working to update this to 2021 IRC https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/p46dfhuthe3ncth1d7fch/2020-ROUGH-STAIR-FRAMING.pdf?rlkey=5tgy29thaltkq29c7zb00gfav&dl=0 CAD SCALES.pdf wall panel details.pdf
  2. I created this mind map (back when I was into that sort of thing) to capture what I needed in a typ. plan for permit. Maybe you have a different set of steps, requirements, procedures.
  3. STUFF ABOUT FRAMING(s).pdf This is a highly compressed PDF. For better graphics download the original from this dropbox link. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6a4e6d61ol9dgqlx7phdg/STUFF-ABOUT-FRAMING.pdf?rlkey=s2bxc1ef46wj95hmwe7uw4rn5&dl=0
  4. Just some things I have created over time. More to follow. Flashing Detail.pdf 2025 ROUGH FRAMED STAIR DETAILS.pdf STAIR - RISER MATRIX.pdf
  5. I know most people are great with renders and imagery.......I'm not. I actually try to avoid the rendering world unless it is requested and paid for. I'm that clueless. What I enjoy doing is to provide framing details to help understand and frame the structure. It started with me as a framer, on my own projects. Like snapping/popping out a rake wall on the floor and measuring the pieces - so 80s. Or running a calculator to figure (and fat finger) things out. Then it slowly grew to building entire homes in a warehouse in TN. Chief is pretty good.....not automated, but as a 100% manual CAD option. I throw in AC LT and SketchUp to make sure things work. I now have a couple builders who want and pay for this level of understanding. Recently I was shown a way to do a gable overhang from a retired Canadian framer. We will be doing that right after Christmas. I'll include some pictures. If you are in need of such info, just reach out to me. Take care
  6. Our blocking comes with 3 @ 2" holes drilled in them and screened = bird blocks
  7. Is this a clean plan or did you have other walls near there that have since been deleted? I've seen ghost walls do crazy things sometimes.
  8. Lay on valley. I think I've seen a chief video on over framing or something similar. If I run across it, I'll be back
  9. I hope that’s going to be metal or some kind of synthetic. When I see the word “framing” I default assume wood
  10. Whether lines or fills, AutoCAD calls all those things Hatching. Chief and maybe SketchUp might be the only ones making that distinction
  11. I use separate plan files. I'm not savy enough with chief to do everything in one plan file. - As-built plan - Demo Plan - New proposed plan. Even the site plan is it's own plan file. All are sent to a single layout file. Referenced files can be overlaid to create some nice views between as-built and new for example.
  12. I’m doing similar. Post-framed into (2) DADU air b n b. occupancy risk category 1 engineering versus occupancy risk category 2 engineering
  13. Steve, You are a generous and helpful man. Thank you. I hope I get skilled enough to do likewise in the future.
  14. I can help you. No charge. A couple of hours on zoom might get you going in the right direction. I use X16 Premiere and SketchUp Pro. If you are using Home Designer, I don't have experience with that. My open time is evenings on the west coast. mike@para-cad.com
  15. I like your thought of using text. Do you have to have the new space visible in 3D? You could create a couple of 2D details (CAD LINES) to show what's up and reference them on the plan for that area.
  16. I had major crashes and I have a loaded M1 max. I run 100% clamshell to 2 external monitors. It only occurred in 3D in chief....so I waited for the next chief update. I worked without 3D for a while. Sketchup, auto cad, all worked fine. Then I decided to see if my hardware was an issue. Apple ran some tests and told me that they needed to replace things so off to Memphis, TN it was shipped. They replaced the display and whatever else (the invoice was vague). It worked great, but just last week during a client zoom, when I was in 3D....chief went completely black. Now when I go to open chief, it crashes before it loads.......and just tonight, this happened. Not a happy camper am I.
  17. Those are a pain to frame, too. We would have the studs at 6" o.c. to help keep the sheetrock from looking segmented. I don't know about why the upper stucco is missing but I got the door to look a bit better. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fren8cgk7pa71ibiug9cc/TURRET-1-para.plan?rlkey=gcvsiwapjpsnntgtguy3nafq3&dl=0
  18. I've had that exact problem, but it was with a print shop printing to paper at 95% (their default) instead of 100%. I'm on a Mac and have no issues. Can you share a file you have had this issue with - strip out whatever you don't need to share, and I will try to reproduce the error so it can be studied and solved.
  19. Copy - Paste Hold Position on other floor
  20. At the 12" walkline the tread should be 10" or greater. It's only 8 ¼". You're right to suspect these stairs.
  21. I had a Magic Trackpad that was B/T to my computer and it had something barely pressing on it. I was flummoxed for a bit until I cleared my desk and the problem went away. Now that trackpad has the batteries removed (just as a precaution)
