Did you check SHOW SHADOWS? See pic below. If you did post the plan. Here is a question.... if I don't want to show shadows, what would I do differently? I don't know. I am not sure what you are doing wrong. Post it real quick, I am curious to see if I can get the shadows to show.

It can be done, not sure if there is an easier program to use than CA. There are many people on this site that will probably show you how to do it. To clarify, I think you are looking for the "rope light" effect. To repeat, the best result I have seen was when a user used a series of lights turned on, he did not use the "emissive" method.

Well, I question whether this is easy, there have been threads regarding this, not sure if anybody has posted a model to clearly demonstrate the method. I doubt a newbie can figure this out using DJP's explanation, I barely understand the method he describes. I do not think the "emissive" method is the best way to do it. The best example i saw was when a user used a series of "point lights".

I just tested, I am on a MAC, the carara marble texture worked for me.

Glenn, I think this statement is confusing. I do send my views to layout using plot lines. If I then edit a location of a window, the window does not auto update in elevation, but I can hit the magic button and the view is updated. IOW, when I hit the update button, all views are updated. So when you said the live association is broken, I am not sure I agree with the statement.

Shelves Shpwing Through Door In Vector View, Flat Panel Doors
dshall replied to Dennis_Gavin's topic in General Q & A
Admittedly it comes and goes, but I do see it. -
I always appreciate Johnny's input, it is unbiased and it typically comes from his experience with other programs. Thanks JPC.

Nice catch Dru, thanks for finding this.

Shelves Shpwing Through Door In Vector View, Flat Panel Doors

WOW, good catch Gavin Dennis. Yes, CA, please look into this. -
That is a good idea, but suppose there is a floor above, now you are SOL, anyway, thinking outside of the box.... I meant thinking outside of the octagon.

The library is a mess, not sure how to fix it, all I know is I rarely get much benefit from it. Maybe Google will buy CA and show them how to work a search engine.
-
How do you make it go away. You post the plan on this web site and in about 17.38 seconds you will have an answer..... but my bet would be a wayward fascia board....... It's Michael the Alaskan Son who is on a roll with answers to questions....... let's time him, post the plan and let's see how long it takes him to solve the issue.

Gavin Dennis, there aren't too many folks on this forum who will remember Pat Paulson. One day you might join us in the 21st century.

Graham, I'm like you, glued to CNN & FOX. I can't get enough of this stuff. This is better than the OJ trial. Super Tuesday will be a lot of fun.

Thanks Graham for the plan. FYI, I do not like Graham method, but who cares, I do not like Joe Carricks Pony wall method, but who cares, I still like my method best, but who cares? The beauty of this is in this post there are 3 different methods to obtain the same result. You guys pick your poison. Thank you Graham for sharing your method and thank you Joe Carrick for sharing your method. Of course if you ask me, my method is the best, but who cares. ..... on a side note....... do you think Trump will actually be our next president? Only in America.
-
Graham, would you mind posting a small plan with your method? Thanks.

I think what Perry is saying is..... after you have relinked the plan 2 to layout 2, he saves and closes both plan and layout to "make it stick". I do the same thing. If you can now reopen the plan and the links look good, all is well.
-
Very well put..... and Perry's template method does the same as the SAM. He is copying a layout with an already associated plan, saving both as project #2 and relinking. I have all my cameras linked to the layout and so does Perry. Both methods are very very similar.
-
No, you can not do it that way. You can not reference a layout to some job somewhere else. The key is to use the same layout and same plan from a previous job, do your relink, and what you have essentially done is to create an EXACT DUPLICATE of the previous job.... and then you are editing the new job.
-
I can't follow what you guys might be doing wrong, but every one of my elevations and sections NEVER NEVER NEVER need to be resent to layout. I think Perry and Joe will confirm this. The only time I send something to layout are the CABINET ELEVATIONS. Joe might have the explanation when he says that the cameras are already in plan.... my cameras are already in plan. I have 16 section cameras, 4 elevation cameras and about 25 cabinet elevation cameras. As Perry has pointed out, the cameras are moved to appropriate locations for the new plan. I only use the cameras I need. A big advantage for me with having the views in layout is I already have the misc. notes and dimensions already in that view, I do not need to recreate them.

Michael, I appreciate the vid, I doubt I will use that for doors, but I may use that for something else. When putting in doors, I put in the first door, set up my door label, whether new or existing or pink or blue, and then I copy that door to other door locations and then quickly change that door to either a garage door or a sliding door or a pocket door etc. I have found it is quicker and easier that shuffling through a library or whatever. I don't know which method is quicker, but what is great is we have multiple methods to achieve the same results.
