  1. My experience mirrors Richard's approach. I have never spec'd ties and my engineer has never required them. However I do not think there is a downside to using the ties. I either have a ridge BEAM with no ties or ceiling joists OR I have a ridge BOARD with ceiling joists in the lower 1/3rd of attic area. The higher up from the top plate the ceiling joists are, the more nailing is required. I am not surprised by Larry's comment in regards to trying to use the collar ties as ceiling joist/truss config. I always strap rafters over ridge when using the ridge BEAM approach, rarely if ever do I use straps if I take the ridge BOARD ceiling joist approach. We are always learning, thank you Richard for your posts in regards to collar ties.
  2. Greg, I am late to the party. Is that a railing with balusters no room def sitting on a solid wall railing? Would you mind posting that stair system? Thanks
  3. The Great David Michael has some really good vids, check them out.
  4. Was there a pallet of 2x4's and a pallet of plywood up there too?
  5. Thanks, but it still does not work for me the way it did... it works differently... see the pic, this is a camera overview and the "...CROP..." option is greyed out. If I do an interior shot... again it does not work like it worked before (camera stays in same location) I will need to learn a different method.
  6. Thanks Michael, but where is camera view options?
  7. Yes please, ...... I think the answer we will get is when we zoom in and out, in previous releases, the camera stayed put but the focal angle changed, now the CAMERA MOVES, I Think i liked how it worked before. Anybody have any hints?
  8. Alan, that space above the ceiling joists, especially where there is a wide span, hence a high ridge, is never used for storage......... it is usually used for an unpermitted second floor. Just goofing guys, it's early in the morning, a little humor to start the day.
  9. Lew and Johnny, why do you turn it into an invisible wall? There are a few very specific cases where you might want to do that, butI have been working with mono slab footings since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and I think I have used the invisible tool 1% of the time.
  10. JPC, connect the footing you drew to the outside perimeter, and they will behave. You are correct, the slab footings are simply walls with footing...
  11. Oh, maybe you want to skip it, boy, a different approach.
  12. Take a look at this JPC, it is very old, but it may give you some insight.
  13. lol Suppose it is the woman in class and her husband needs something to do. Do you think the gardening class as advertised will work?
  14. Not copy wall but CUT wall, but I am sure you figured that out.
  15. No, not walls but roofs
  16. I put those walls up one level. (Attic level). So they don't show in plan. Put them on their own layer as Eric suggests, and then post plan .
  17. Somewhere I have done many videos on how to do this, if you search DORMER VIDEOS BY DSH on you tube, you may be able to find the vids. I am able to do this.
  18. We should be able to specify if we want one or two joist under wall, I do not want to turn off auto framing to achieve this, one day CA will give us this option.... hopefully... we can not do this now.
  19. You changed it to furred and no room def. I would of done it non room def only Why? I don't know, but I think I would of got the same thing. So we agree it should be non room def, The question is if you also Define it as furred, how does it behave differently? I do not know..
  20. I was thinking of you when I made my previous comment. I am not sure what the mystery is, the current driveway tools are lacking.
  21. I think we all get this, but the question is, can you break a curb with a terrain feature. So for me there are two issues: 1- how do we reshape a driveway/driveway apron and have it break the curb to create a curb cut 2- why can't we choose a curved curb cut or an angled curb cut.
  22. I get this, but for some reason the roof overhang I was using in my example actually went over the deck. Point is, some inconsistencies.
  23. This is a great question without a good answer. I do not know why we can't do this. I think I first asked for this about 10 years ago.
  24. This is such a great question. I think there are many ways to handle this. I do not call it a furred wall, I call that wall NO ROOM DEF. How should we do it? Define the wall as a furred wall or a non room def? I do not know. Why would I define the plumbing wall as either non room def or furr wall, I do not know. Michael if he has time might want to explore the different options, or I will if I find the time. Good question Mon Cherie.
