Just curious, why are driveways and sidewalks not editable?
dshall replied to mtldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I was thinking of you when I made my previous comment. I am not sure what the mystery is, the current driveway tools are lacking. -

I think we all get this, but the question is, can you break a curb with a terrain feature. So for me there are two issues: 1- how do we reshape a driveway/driveway apron and have it break the curb to create a curb cut 2- why can't we choose a curved curb cut or an angled curb cut. -
I get this, but for some reason the roof overhang I was using in my example actually went over the deck. Point is, some inconsistencies.

This is a great question without a good answer. I do not know why we can't do this. I think I first asked for this about 10 years ago. -
This is such a great question. I think there are many ways to handle this. I do not call it a furred wall, I call that wall NO ROOM DEF. How should we do it? Define the wall as a furred wall or a non room def? I do not know. Why would I define the plumbing wall as either non room def or furr wall, I do not know. Michael if he has time might want to explore the different options, or I will if I find the time. Good question Mon Cherie.

Looking for service to create house plan in X7
dshall replied to Chieftmbm50's topic in Seeking Services
Yep, their plan is perfect except they want to change a door swing, 3 hours later, it is a different plan. -
I can show roof planes separate from overhangs. So you are missing something. However, when I think of a roof overhang, I think it is from fascia to exterior wall, that is not what I am seeing. Red dashed is the Overhang, Blue dash is the roof eaves, Roof overhangs are still useless to me unless someone can explain them to me,

It's tempting, but I ain't gonna bite on this one. You win Joey, you are the smartest man.

Folks like Michael "The Alaskan Son" spend a lot of his time helping out newbies and experienced folks. Thank you Michael for all of the help you have provided. You are a great asset. If you ever want to call me a nitwit for not posting a plan, do so, I will welcome your assistance at the cost of being berated. One final note, if a plan had been posted, the OP would of probably received some very clear guidance along with a video to further explain the process instead of 4 lines that even an experienced user would have problems understanding. Keep up the good work Michael.

So it cannot be done on a roof plane by roof plane basis? Is that what we want?
-
I do not understand why that is so. We should be able to change the orientation of the blocking after the roof has been built. If I am not mistaken, I have requested this in the past.
-
Allen, if you would like I will do a go to meeting with you and we can probably work it out in less than one hour working together. Your call.

Good stuff Michael, thanks.

grade distance from foundation to overcome frost level
dshall replied to Dennis_Gavin's topic in General Q & A
At one time it was "5'-0" TO DAYLIGHT" it is now "MINIUM 7'-0" TO DAYLIGHT" what this means is if you were to project a horizontal line from the bottom of the footing to "daylight", the distance must be at least 7'-0". I would bet Perry and Joe and Larry would confirm this. -
No nothing new, I will skip vid.
-
I will do a vid, I would appreciate a critique, must go now, I will try to do it this afternoon, I think this will be a good vid.
-
Yeah, that is what I would of thought, I spent 3.6 seconds and could not do it, I will spend 5.7 seconds next time and I am sure I will get it. JPC, let me do a vid, I discovered a new way of doing that stuff.... manually.... as manual as I can do it but it is using existing tools.... easy peasy... may not be as fast as Glenn, but I do remodels and I must do them manually.....
-
Interesting, I had never thought of that. I tried it, it did not work for a mono slab. BTW, I do not know what a FOUNDATION PANEL is...... I have learned to never question Glenn's knowledge, but I could not do it. I do my foundations manually, more control and easier for me. There are multiple ways to do what the OP wants. If I get a chance, I will do a vid of the method I would use.
-
Yes, or you can have a floor and delete all layers so it has no structure. So I think there are 3 ways to achieve the same thing. So what are the advantages of one method over the other?

try this video it's old but I think it holds up

i can confirm your results. I cannot see the ceiling joists in wall elevation either. I rarely if ever use the wall elevation camera. I wonder if this is inherent to the wall elevation camera...... not being able to see the framing..... interesting. -

I sure wish you would post this plan so we can review this. Either you are doing something wrong or there is a bug. Let's find out what the problem is, please post the plan, it will benefit all of us.
