  1. I considered the concrete fill, but I never got around to trying it. The living area I would of never guessed. Thanks Brad.
  2. Holy kamoly, I can't wait to get back to office to check this out. I meet again with my client at 6 AM , he will be excited to see the speed improvement.
  3. Joe, is that a serious question? The last thing my client and I did before he left my office this morning was to count the number of storage units. Yep, we counted every last unit and then multiplied by the number of buildings.
  4. Thanks guys, I now understand, CA can't handle this. I am not sure if a 30 story building would have more or fewer walls, probably more, in fact the 30 story might have a bathroom on the 16th floor, heaven forbid, so why does CA advertise it can do a 30 story building? Maybe a 30 story shell, but not a 30 story building. CA can do a 30 story building if you draw it in CAD, and then do a separate door schedule for each floor which is in a separate plan. I got it, let's just be honest about the limitations of the program.
  5. Joe, I am not sure how many mini storage projects you have drawn, but I have drawn at least 4.... by hand. So I am aware of how to draw these things. But more to the point, why would I want to draw these 5x5 storage cubicles with CAD lines? I know I can do it, but wouldn't I rather draw what is being built? Is this where instancing comes into play? I am very surprised that this project is so slow. If CA can't handle such a relatively simple structure, let this be a warning to anybody else who might ask the question, should I draw this project in CA or should I draw it in REVIT?
  6. Nuts, that is how we get a count on doors etc. I wonder if this issue has anything to do with instancing? This might be a project for a a different file for each building and then using symbols to put in the site plan file for a 3d view. But then do I lose count of the doors for all 9 buildings? Thanks Joe, Perry, Michael and Chopsaw (should I just call you Chop?). I must admit the performance for this project is very very very disappointing. What I have shown is maybe 50% of the project. This storage unit project actually has a second floor. And then there are outlying buildings on the site. I could not imagine how JPC would model one of his Multi Unit Building Projects. Very disappointing performance out of CA for what I consider a very rudimentary project. And some folks build 30 story building in this program? Are you kidding me?
  7. Hi guys, would you mind taking a look at this plan and see if it is acting slow to you. Edit a few walls, delete them, change lengths etc. The slowness is unbearable and I am just getting started. It will be a mini storage which consists of many many walls but not much else. Thanks for your time. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6sqov2mvhqkspn9/TEMESCAL%20WHY%20SO%20SLOW%201.plan?dl=0
  8. Another great vid by Glenn. It was great that he talked about revolving around absolute zero and it was great that he spoke of smoothing. Good stuff. Glenn, I think it would of been neat if you had taken it a step further and exploded into faces and then give a different material to the faces.... I think that is possible.
  9. What is the call out? is that the circle with the number in it?
  10. I must be missing something, I do this all the time.... however I do not get the circle around the window call out number.
  11. BTW, this has been requested many times.
  12. I agree, as stated above, these kinds of stairs are the majority of my work. I can do the work around, but I would rather not.
  13. My experience mirrors Richard's approach. I have never spec'd ties and my engineer has never required them. However I do not think there is a downside to using the ties. I either have a ridge BEAM with no ties or ceiling joists OR I have a ridge BOARD with ceiling joists in the lower 1/3rd of attic area. The higher up from the top plate the ceiling joists are, the more nailing is required. I am not surprised by Larry's comment in regards to trying to use the collar ties as ceiling joist/truss config. I always strap rafters over ridge when using the ridge BEAM approach, rarely if ever do I use straps if I take the ridge BOARD ceiling joist approach. We are always learning, thank you Richard for your posts in regards to collar ties.
  14. Greg, I am late to the party. Is that a railing with balusters no room def sitting on a solid wall railing? Would you mind posting that stair system? Thanks
  15. The Great David Michael has some really good vids, check them out.
  16. Was there a pallet of 2x4's and a pallet of plywood up there too?
  17. Thanks, but it still does not work for me the way it did... it works differently... see the pic, this is a camera overview and the "...CROP..." option is greyed out. If I do an interior shot... again it does not work like it worked before (camera stays in same location) I will need to learn a different method.
  18. Thanks Michael, but where is camera view options?
  19. Yes please, ...... I think the answer we will get is when we zoom in and out, in previous releases, the camera stayed put but the focal angle changed, now the CAMERA MOVES, I Think i liked how it worked before. Anybody have any hints?
  20. Alan, that space above the ceiling joists, especially where there is a wide span, hence a high ridge, is never used for storage......... it is usually used for an unpermitted second floor. Just goofing guys, it's early in the morning, a little humor to start the day.
  21. Lew and Johnny, why do you turn it into an invisible wall? There are a few very specific cases where you might want to do that, butI have been working with mono slab footings since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and I think I have used the invisible tool 1% of the time.
