But Bill, convert to WHAT SYMBOL and why? This is what is so important about this thread. How do you want to control the elevation of the symbol/psolid/terrain feature/cabinet et al. Should the height be a function of the TERRAIN, or a function of absolute ZERO or a function of the FINISHED FLOOR whether it be the first floor, second floor, third floor etc. This is such a great thread for me........

This bleeding stuff is always a mystery, for whatever reason I never get the light bleeding....... P. might be correct, put a roof on it and all may be well...... errrrrr... should you post the plan to get a definitive answer? What sayeth you GW?

LET That guy is such a jerk, let's be serious for a moment...... I forget how you did it JC....... let's see, molding won't work because you can't get the door, I would guess a railing WITH PANELS (millwork), with a door in it..........

oh oh oh, I know, I KNOW pick me pick me, you built it out of CABINETS.....

Todd, I can never have too much time on my hands, I am working very very hard to have more time on my hands. I will say that this will probably my best year yet with more money going in the bank, more vacations and more time to play golf....... of course I work 7 days a week. I figure that each "nugget" I learn is worth about $100.00 a year, if I learn 50 nuggets a year (1 a week), that is an additional $5000.00 per year. This is why I monitor every post on this site, I am looking for that extra $100.00. The quicker I learn that nugget, the more opportunity there is to learn and earn "bonus nuggets". The problem is sometimes it takes 25 posts to pick up that nugget. So I always appreciate when a question is answered quickly and expeditiously, because as someone recently said...... I forget who it was on this site..... but he was talking time is money. So when anyone has a question, if they post a picture and the plan, I can almost guarantee that anyone of us losers on this site will answer the question in a post or two. The quicker a question is answered, the quicker us losers learn a nugget and pick up that extra $100.00. Just goofing with you Todd, I truly appreciate all of the interaction and back and forth that goes on this site with not only the power users but also the newbies. Heck, CC had a post a little bit ago that just might be worth an extra $200.00 per year for me. I will try to do a vid on this in the AM, this could be huge for me, thanks again CC.

Hey, it was CC. That started this. Yeah, I have to put golf lessons on hold and do a vid.

Who started this stupid thread? Whoever started it, THANKS SO MUCH! I just had an epiphany.

This my friend is a very very good tip. The more I think about it, the smarter it is. Boy, do I feel like a Duffis. Thanks michael, I just changed my Methodolgy for many typical conditions. Jeez I feel stupid.

I have a similar problem. I built a house and it looks good in plan. But when I do a floor overview I see nothing. Can you help me. I would post a picture and the plan, but I am too busy. Would you guys mind guessing what the problem is. I understand that I am not paying you for your time to help me, and I probably will not look at this thread for another week, but please help.

Two pics, one WITHOUT light source, the other WITH 3 light sources..... however one light source would work quite well. The light source tends to "unmuddy" the picture.

It is still not very good. Post the plan and I will see what I can do. You need to make sure the light is in the room that the camera is in and it never hurts to put the LIGHT SOURCE (not talking about a light fixture), in each room. It still appears you are missing a light source, the jpegs looks darker than I would of guessed it should look like.

The real problem is that Glenn is the only one that knows everything. Unfortunately CA has not hired Glenn to write the manual, hey CA, fix this please, thank you.

Yes, if the curve p-line has been converted to a p-line.\ and no longer a REAL CURVE.
-
Okay..... but not sure about that......

I do all windows, especially since the energy calcs may use the new and exist.
-
I use all three all the time, union, intersection and subtraction. i use the for terrain tool, roofs, and probably many more things I cannot think of right now.

Yeah, 6.00 more per month, should be up and running in 5 days

This is confusing to me. If you change the plan and you want these changes reflected in layout, open the layout view and the close it. The changes in the plan will now be reflected in the plan. This is one of the biggest time wasters to me. I think these elevations in layout should auto update when the plan is edited without the need to open the layout window and then close the layout window. No need to do this in REVIT, I wish CA behaved the same way.

Jim, I understand that you know how floors work. What I said was directed to those who do not fully understand floors. Knowing what I can do with floors takes the mystery out of it for me. BTW, There is an isolated situation where I may or could have a situation with a floor with no rooms between two floors with rooms. A very isolated situation involving walls cut by roof..... very very isolated situation.

Along the same line as what Glenn is doing. Build 2 3 story homes. On house one, only walls on level 1. On house two, only walls on level 3. Now make the f.f. if level one of house one @ 10', and the f.f. of house 2 3rd floor at 0.0. Point is we can have the third floor of house two lower than first floor of house one. I know, pretty stupid stuff, but it is something to do to help us understand floor levels...... but it has nothing to do with Jim's query.
-
No problem here on the update, easy peasy.
-
That's because you are probably the only guy around here that is grumpier than me........ well....... Jim is starting to give us a run for our money. Jim, still trying to work out this Michigan golf trip, I have changed my mind so many times on the best way to deal with this, would like to play at Traverse City Golf Resort, but I looked on Yelp, and there are a lot of bad reviews in regards to the resort... I am so confused.

I have to tell you Jim, if you are having this much trouble, you might want to reconsider your methods. Project browser to get to a level? No thanks, I use the arrow keys, I am there before I have to think about it. 2nd floor actually 3rd floor? I am not sure what you are talking about. We are not in Europe where the 1st floor is actually above the ground floor and the basement is below the ground floor. And the basement is actually 2 floors below the first floor. Yeah Jim, after rereading your post, I can tell you are frustrated. I am not sure if you are the only one, but I can tell you I have no problem moving from floor to floor with arrow keys. I have a sneaky feeling P. has no problems moving between floors. As I said, you might want to reconsider your methods. But, because you want it....... HEY CA, please allow us to somehow predetermine the ceiling heights of floors we will add in the future without having to determine after the fact.
-
Have a template plan with four floors with each floor height defined as you like. I really do not know what the big deal about this is. It seems from project to project I either have 97" first floor walls or 109" first floor walls or 101" hi first floor walls and then the second floor walls are either 97" or 109". I know that for every project I will need to adjust the ceiling heights. It takes me about 7.23 seconds to set the ceiling heights , (I just timed it). I just spent more time explaining this than it would take me to adjust the ceiling heights of the next 20 homes I do. I am such a nitwit.
