  1. I have never noticed that before. Take a look straight on of the corner cabinet, it now looks good, but now the other cabinets are showing the shelves. I tried in new plan and same thing. I can't believe I have never seen this before. If it is any consolation to you, once you send to layout, all is well.
  2. I have watched a few vid on the usage and I think it might work great for real estate agents. I would not rule out using this yet, but I like the idea of being able to refer to field notes with the actual dimensions I measured. If i drew on site using the room planner, are the dimensions there to refer to? I know that when I go back to the office, I always need to make allowances for what was measured as to what dimension I will use in plan...... an adjustment of an inch or two. I love the disco I have, I have a helper, the disto is on a continuous measurement, so my helper goes from room to room yelling out dimensions to me. Pretty quick. What I have learned and what amazes me is if the angle of the disto` is off a degree or two, there is a disparity in what the actual dimension is and what the disto reads.... by a couple of inches easily...... my fault for not being absolutely square..... this leads to making minor dimensional adjustments as I build as built. Disto is great, just not sure if I could use it in conjunction with room planner yet.
  3. use the rainbow tool a click on material, the dvx will open up. dbx=defaults box
  4. Interesting, never found a need to put interior walls on their own layer.
  5. I don't follow, can you give us (2) obvious answers and then we can go from there.
  6. Okay, in California, new Title:24 requirements are in effect as of July 1st of this year. My Title-24 person sent me the forms, (9 total) in PDF form. I imported the PDF into the plan. The printed PDF (300 DPI) of my plans (printed on my PC) is 32 MB in size. Impossible to email. The printed PDF (144 DPI) of my plans (printed on my PC) is 13 MB in size. possible to email. What are you guys doing to reduce the size of these pdf from the title-24 person? Are you guys printing your PDF's at 144 dpi and is this acceptable.... I have not seen it yet.
  7. I just watched the video of ROOM PLANNER working with a DISTO at this site..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2289-disto-e7100i-and-room-planner/#entry17792 This video was done so poorly with so little information on how he did it, it was essentially useless for me. I wish someone would do a decent video explaining and showing how the DISTO is used with ROOM PLANNER. I am open to learning new methods, but I do not think there is a magic bullet to draw a set of plans like this. I believe that even after taking the measurements with the DISTO, there will be some editing back at the office......... but that isn't bad, I just wish the video was more informative. Does anybody use the DISTO with ROOM PLANNER and would you do a decent video on the machinations? Simple example: A 20'x40' house with (4) rooms. How does one get the TRUE FRAME TO FRAME overall dimensions of house and then make it coincide with the (4) room sizes that are within the house. I just find it hard to believe that we would end up with INTERIOR WALLS that are exactly 4-1/2" thick (2x4 studs with 1/2" drywall each side). I do not mean to pooh pooh this system, but I wish someone who might be a bit more discerning would do a video on the method.
  8. I too have reported it several times, not sure why it is not fixed.
  9. Hey Jim, that is where we might do our golf trip next May. I understand you guys have some great golf courses out there. Maybe we can get together one evening if it works out.
  10. Hey Todd, I think you should change your avatar. That is the dumbest avatar I have ever seen. Every time I look at one of your posts, I think the question you are asking relates to your avatar. Take a clue from JC and use a picture of yourself (BTW, that is an actual picture of JC, I know you think it is Yoda, but that is what Joe looks like). So come on Todd, please fix your avatar, I will thank you many times over.
  11. post a frickin pic of what you want and I bet somebody will come up with a solution....... and if I had to guess, it would be JC...... unless I beat him to it.
  12. I just tried it with related dimensions. No problem. Bottom line, my files on the mac rarely rarely rarely crash. I have not seen an SEH error since Reagan was president. I would bet the problem lies within your computer....... I would take heed to what the SEH message says, contact support.
  13. I opened plan and moved many walls using the temp dimension tool and had no SEH errors..... I was on my mac. So based on what I found, the plan file is okay on my computer...... if I had to guess, the problem is with your computer and not CA or the plan file.
  14. There you go, JC and I are in agreement. However, the Northerners probably do not agree with this approach. I think the P Man would agree with our approach.
  15. Yes, basement are always on level 1 for me. Again, I know others disagree, but the advantage I have found is I can add mono slabs on level zero if need be.
  16. No, I never add a foundation, again it is already there....... the foundation LEVEL is already there. I manually create my foundations, I have found it is easier for ME, others do not agree with this method, but I find it works well for me.
  17. No, but if you post the plan, I will check it on my mac. Must first figure out if it is your mac or your file that is causing problem.
  18. Keith, I do not understand your question. I have 4 floors for every house I do whether it is a one story or a three story. Just because the floor/LEVEL is there does not mean you have to use it. I have the extra floors for the very reason you are having problems with adding floors. I do not have to add them, they are already there....... and when I say FLOORS, I should be using the term LEVELS.
  19. I don't know, but I do not have a problem because from day one my projects have 4 floors whether I use them or not. I am never adding floors, they are already there.
  20. My projects are constantly changing and "under construction". So I would have to make a new symbol for every change. And let me tell you, people are finicky these days. Make it 24" bigger, now make it 12" smaller.... move the entire building 36" to the left, now move it 24" to the right (this would effect landscaping) ........you get the drift.
  21. Nice project Jim. But I would of kept everything in one file. Works well either way, whatever floats our boat.
  22. I agree with Glenn on this. Working a a project right now with a detached garage...... I am keeping it in the same file. The big advantage is when it comes to doing overviews, much quicker and simpler. Another advantage is dealing with the landscaping, pools, covered patios that my be linked between house and detached garage. If separate houses on separate lots in one development, then I would have separate files for each lot.
