  1. Are you kidding me ? This is a super idea. What you are asking for is object elevation above the floor it is on as well as absolute elevation...... Similar to what we have in structure dbx, (ceiling ht. from the floor it is on and absolute ceiling height)" Why don't you put this in suggestions?
  2. Jim, come to Cali and I will teach you all sorts of funky things.
  3. You might be correct, must go now, will confirm in the AM
  4. Aha, Robert, you are dragging the wall at LEVEL ONE up and down, I agree, it is behaving well, try dragging the top of the FOUNDATION WALL at LEVEL ZERO up and down, you might get a different result.
  5. Whoa Buddy, are you sure? I just tried it on the 8 CRESTVIEW DRIVE PLAN that was posted and I lost the sill plate. Robert, do me a favor and change the heights as I described and post the plan, I would love to see it. My sill plate and exterior finish DOES NOT build correctly, I have attached my plan where it does not rebuild, check it out and let me know, thanks.
  6. Now here is one for you Robert.... and this behavior ticks me off..... once it is building correctly, grab a foundation wall and drag it down 24". Now drag it back up 24"....... not the wall height is no longer listed as a DEFAULT WALL HT in the WALL SPEC<STRUCTURE<DEFAULT WALL HEIGHT,.. however we both know you put it back in it's original height location.... however, know the sill plate is no longer there and the SIDING/EXTERIOR FINISH does not cover what was once the sill plate. A bit aggravating..... so why even adjust this height? If you want to define the wall as a TERRAIN RETAINING WALL and you do not want the top of wall to FOLLOW THE TOP OF GRADE. What is the solution? Do not adjust wall height, do not call it a TERRAIN RETAINING WALL, instead use a TERRAIN BREAK to define the break in terrain.......
  7. Nice job Robert, that was worth a point.... nice job!
  8. Not so, Imagine a terrain that has dips and rises and you have a model with hips and gables and different plate heights at different areas.... I think Timmy is being quite clever in determining if any point of house exceeds the 30' height limitation at any point directly below any point of house.
  9. I think you just confirmed what I have been saying, sometimes it works, sometimes not..... I wonder if it has to do with the order in which you turn the layers on and off........ I a so #%%##^&^ sick of trying to figure out this %&%$%, I am just pissed off....... come on CA..... listen to us and please fix this crap.....
  10. It works this morning...... FLOOR SURFACES on ROOMS off
  11. Sometimes it works and other times it does not seem to work.... that is the mystery
  12. I disagree and this post is confusing
  13. I disagree with the previous answers, the easiest way is to select the wall, open dvx, MATERIALS<INTERIOR WALLS SURFACE, and change the INTERIOR WALL SURFACE to your glass material. Also change the EXTERIOR WALL SURFACE to glass.... all will be well. This technique will override whatever color you have painted the room. The other methods will work, but this is the best and easiest solution.
  14. Believe it or not, The Bridge Troll knows what he is trying to do without a plan. Go to TERRAIN SPECIFICATION<GENERAL<BULDING PAD and change that number in the box by 30'...... either positive or negative, you figure it out, this will now hide your building if you do not exceed the 30' height limit. If you house is over 30' above grade, you will see it sticking out of the terrain. A very clever usage to determine if the house exceeds the maximum height limit
  15. Alan, looked at your pic, I would CHECK the SHOW START AND END INDICATORS and I would change to SELECT CONTAINED (NOT INTERSECTED)..... just a thought...... it's funny, sometimes I find it helpful to review these settings that I may of set up 7 years ago because my method of working has changed......
  16. Thanks Lew, you are correct, since that is the case, I suppose I would prefer to use PARALLELS which does not require a reboot, and I would use PARALLELS with GARAGE DOOR WIZARD if that was possible.
  17. P., I just emailed Kerry, the guy that wrote the program, I wonder if he will email me back. He wrote the program back in 2001. I wonder if I can put it on my MAC with parallels. It is such a pain in the a** to have to got out of CA on the MAC to fire up the program on the PC that I don't use it as much as I should. Bootcamp comes with the MAC but I have not installed it..... I am afraid of the ramifications. Has any MAC user put the free BOOTCAMP on their MAC? If I can put BOOTCAMP on the mac, I can then have X5 open on the MAC, all the time to utilize GARAGE DOOR WIZARD, but still have X6 open on the MAC, and then when X7 is available, I can have X6 open in bootcamp and use X7 on the MAC side. But I may have to buy GARAGE DOOR WIZARD a second time to put it on the MAC.
  18. I think you are correct, maybe I should go ahead and delete them and see if they show up again. Did you see my recent post on GARAGE DOOR WIZARD? I think you also bought the program, I can't believe CA has not somehow implemented something like this in their program. Their selection of garage doors are very limited in CA..... maybe they should buy the program from Kerry and hook it up to CA. Garage Door Wizard has been a god send for me. Problem now is it only runs on a PC and I am on a MAC..... I have a feeling I will never be able to get rid of my PC. Why can't I get rid of the PC? I cannot get rid of PC because: -need to print PDF's on PC (if I print on MAC the PDF is too large to email........ I think with Yosemite, this problem may have been fixed, I will see soon enough -Need to be able to use garage door wizard...... I know.... I can use parallels or boot camp but sounds like a lot of work -To access SAN DIEGO COUNTY GIS PROGRAM, it only works with INTERNET EXPLORER, how lame is that?
  19. This guy does not get enough credit. I bought this program about 9 years ago for 25.00, best 25.00 I ever spent. Here is the link I got this from. http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?15516-New-ChiefWare-Garage-Door-Wizard New ChiefWare Garage Door WizardI just wanted to let everyone know that I have created a new Windows program that allows you to easily create garage doors for Chief Architect. For more information about it please click here: http://www.chiefware.com/LibGar1_.htm To see a video of it in action and how it works with Chief Architect (this requires Flash to be installed and speakers for you to hear it) please click here: http://www.chiefware.com/GDWiz.html Or for a tutorial on how to use it: http://www.chiefware.com/gdwizhowto.htm I replaced the Garage Door 1 Library that I was selling with this as it makes creating the garage doors MUCH easier. If you are an existing customer, you are entitled to get this at a discount. I sent emails to all my existing customers, but about 1/4 of the messages got bounced back. So if you are an existing customer, please email me (Kerry@ChiefWare.com). Note: This currently only works in inches. I've had a request for Metric that I hope to build into the program soon. The program is only of value if you have versions of Chief Architect that allow you to import AutoCAD DWG files. One advantage to this program over the library it replaces is that the garage doors now appear correctly in the materials list. Thanks, Kerry Francis ChiefWare
  20. Great question, let's see if someone else can help me out here....... let's see if we can name all the layers that don't always have a check mark in the DISPLAY BOX: -CEILING BREAK LINES (already mentioned) -FOUNDATION (definitely a mystery layer) ...... there must me others but they escape me right now......... .... here are two more "mystery layers" that I have not fully understood: -ROOMS -FLOOR SURFACES A couple more mystery layers: -"0" (I am sure there is a reason for this otherwise it would not be there..... but I have not figured it out) - DEFPOINTS (I have never understood this layer)
  21. Thanks for the link Lew, this looks a bit interesting...... not for me but for my clients...... one day when I feel comfortable with CA's material lists, I will use CA's material list for my clients..... just not quite comfortable with CA's material list yet.
  22. ¥es, if the pdf is an image of the take off sheet..... just goofing with ya..... JC is correct of course, a PDF is just a picture.
  23. Thanks Randy, I will check it out when I have time.......
