How to change the orientation of a floor plan
Chopsaw replied to MovingandShaking's topic in General Q & A
Does that mean you are rotating 90 deg or some random angle ? It may be best to just rotate your layout boxes in the layout. Chief does not like some random angles. Normally you would not rotate the model and simply rotate your plot plan and north arrow but not the terrain as it stays with the house. -
Best method for creating shaped parapet wall?
Chopsaw replied to Christina_Girerd's topic in General Q & A
Well that is kind of sad that it did not work since that is what the feature is for. Might be worth sending tech support a link to your last post. Seems like it could use some improvement. Glad you original idea worked out. I suppose you could just paint the top plate without wrecking all your wall framing. -
Best method for creating shaped parapet wall?

How about 1/2" or 1/4" and the same finish as the walls. Was there a flat spot on top of the angled section in the middle of the window bank before ? -
Place it as the "Panel" and it should work fine.

You can take a look at the 3D file with a free version of Autodesk True View, but all I get is this and it does not really look like a house. Maybe Disto can provide some support ? It seems that you can use True View to manually extract the XYZ data for each measured point using the "Locate Point" tool. You could then plot that out in Chief but not sure how that is faster than taking actual measurements. Let us know how it goes. Possibly someone else here has actually done this before.

Can you provide some additional details on shaping the window bottoms David. If chief can do that I am pretty sure it would be simpler than what I did. It may be able to be done with my method being a bit more careful with the exact details possibly.

Interesting. I would try a wall cap. Then you don't need to mess with the wall framing. -

Sounds like a fun project. Wall material regions would have cut the first layer of double brick? Or not. Ok I see it is better to just set the exact depth of cut. Then you don't need to mess with the wall definition. -

Nice Job. And quick too. That is a lot of sq ft. for one day. I bet you had fun measuring that one. -
I doubt that was what caused the extra walls but it is not a good habit to get into as it can cause other issues. Carry on.

Just go to the Attic level of plan view and delete the offending walls. Curious how you got to that point though ? As built single level and then added proposed garage with 2 levels ?

Best method for creating shaped parapet wall?
Chopsaw replied to Christina_Girerd's topic in General Q & A
There are several threads on parapet walls but it looks like you should be able to do that with a wall and wall material regions as it appears to be all straight lines and not arcs. I would draw a cad line and copy it a few times to snap the wall top to and don't make the mistake of clicking "Default Top Height". -
Cool. How did you get to that point ? Care to post the plan ? Are the ridges connected ?

Humm.... Is that the one in your signature? Even my setup is getting old and slow. What are your specs for the hard drive that chief is running off ?

Yes that is how it works. Just a manual edit that says Answered or Solved. Nothing to click on at this point. -

Go to your original posting and click the "Edit" button and it should allow you to edit the title or you posting if you were the person that started the thread. -

You can edit the thread title to indicate you question has been answered. Funny that "Hide terrain Intersected by Building" fixed it though as what you indicated as seeing are actually " Terrain Contours " and corresponding elevation levels. -
I would check with Sales. There may be a mistake or a substantial discount on an upgrade. If you just need to look at the file you could do that with the trial version. You also have the option to rent.

X12 is likely in your digital locker if it actually was less than a year ago. Take a look and download if it is there.

Where does NOTE number pull its text style from?
Chopsaw replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Could it be possible that you made the notes before changing the default ? -

Do you care to post a sample plan ? The macro does not determine the font as far as I know. -

Plan Defaults > Text,Callouts and Markers > Note Yours is likely set to Custom -
Yes I understood that but as a PC user I don't have it. Are you aware of other apps that cause the "problem" ?

Hi Kevin, I located the file that I sent out and the subcontractor had the issue with but can not get it to fail and print a black background. I tried viewers by Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome. Could you possibly post or send me a page form the one you know will not work properly and I will see if I can flatten it for testing on your printer ? Then we will know if that is the problem and if it is tied to the transparency settings or not. Pretty sure it would be relatively easy for chief to add that option as I think a lot of users would also appreciate that as a security feature.

A lot of plan checkers don't like to see negative numbers as they don't show well on black and white drawings. It is old school but they sometimes insist on the subfloor being 100'. Might be worth checking what the local requirements are. Not sure what happens when there is more than 100' of fall on a lot though. Then it gets even more confusing.
