Something odd is going on then. I can't reproduce your situation. It could be a font issue or something I have not run across or can't remember. Custom cad blocks or non standard scaling ?

You might be ok without snow loading to worry about. I think here we would need to put blocking all the way up the four foot spans but then that really puts a wrinkle in your ventilation plan especially with standing seam. I think Glen's method would work fine with respect to the 2' and 4' centers as the roof planes are independent. He likely drew that in about 2 minutes knowing him.

Manage the column width of your Symbol column which may require you to shorten the column heading also.

Hi Larry, Plan seems to be a normal size to me 3.78 MB. Definitely a challenging issue going on there. I thought maybe it was being caused by the furred wall being inside out but that was not it. Hopefully someone has a logical answer for you but if not I think tech should be told about the issue. Workaround for the time being would be to delete the ceiling finish from the 1st floor and apply it to the floor definition of the 2nd floor. Strange that if you leave it as it is and make the ceiling layer really thick that it works visually but not for your construction doc's. simple Chopped.plan

Something like the one on the left is what you want and the one on the right is the one you have ? I don't think there is a setting for that. You can manually frame two layers within the same roof plane with the correct procedure but would need to review it as I think there have been some recent changes in the software. I would be a little concerned structurally about the 2x6 sleeper over the open span of plywood trying to carry a load it would not be capable of carrying. It should be possible to manually frame a second roof plane but I don't have much experience with that and overlapping roof planes can cause unexpected issues.

I think I remember someone posting an extensive library of brick materials a while back but bricks often vary by region as they have traditionally been made from local materials. To get a good match on a as-built you can take your own photograph and create a seamless texture from it to use in chief or clip one from the internet and do the same. No roofs are a lot different than walls. You would need to turn the framing on and the roof plane off. Are you doing an assembly mockup or just want to see the framing while designing ?

It should not be to much trouble for your designer to send you a preliminary PDF with most of the dimensions on it to go with the viewer model.

Humm.... The way that works I might even consider it to be a bug or at least totally inconsistent with the rest of the layerset programming. Have you discussed this with chief ? That would work fine except that each wall's framing members would need it's own layer to work effectively. Otherwise you would need to do some pretty precise back clips and side clipping. Possibly it will be something chief has addressed with the new X13 2D elevation views.

Is there any pattern to it at all as to which windows fix and which ones do not ? Did you check with tech support ? Are you using a label or schedule callout or macro ? Which PDF generator are you using ? Seems as you may have forgotten to update your signature.

You could do an back clipped elevation view of your 3D framing set but the wall details are better for notes and dimensions. Lots of information that can be included that is difficult to put on a floor plan if you have framers that you can work with.

Maybe try importing them into a blank cad detail or use your all off layer set with only the imported cad layer turned on and F6 for Fill Window.

Take a look in the Plan Display section of the Camera DBX. You are asking chief to do a difficult task. It appears you have the callout size set to automatic and chief us expanding the callout so that all that text you have in the bottom line will fit within the callout. The automatic setting will also respond to the text size that is controlled by the layer. It would seem you need to make some sort of compromise. If you are going to use the automatic setting and want to callouts the same size then you need to come up with a coding system that uses the same number of characters for each callout.

Not so sure that there is an existing library of those types of items but you can place a 3D model and then delete it and replace it with it's cad block from Cad Block Management. If you intend to do that a lot create your own library of cad blocks.

Joe had requested a way to convert symbols to solids which is still only a partial solution but potentially useful in some situations.

You can change the material but unless you created it with an independent material zone where you now want to change it. It will be rather complicated to revise. It may be possible to use the delete surfaces tool to remove the molding and then recreate the symbol. There is a lot that can be done using stretch planes and zones to selectively change the size. This is not currently possible, hence your original idea of saving the original is always a good idea if you have put a lot of time into creating something that may need to be revised. Architectural blocks can sometimes be used in the place of symbols allowing them to be exploded for future revisions and modifications.

If you need to miter the corners then you need to add another step but try to draw it as it will be built as much a you can.
