  1. Ok, Glad it is not just me. But the Overlap vs. Reveal settings are just the tip of the iceburg. The "Fit Frame to Wall" is not correct for both doors and windows. One may be correct but the other is not. Then there are the R.O. settings : that are totally wack. I am not so sure there is a way to explain why setting a bottom rough opening for a door creates a gap in the framing above the door. And just for fun the house wrap does not trim the same for both. So yes it could be a cold winter if they don't get fixed.
  2. Has anyone else noticed the programming inconsistencies when setting up a window Frame and Casing to match a door Jamb and Casing so you have a consistent exterior look with both doors and window. It is like they were programmed by completely different departments who never talk. There is so much wrong it must be totally baffling for new users. I will be sending my report in to tech but wondered if anyone else has already done so ?
  3. Any chance you could post the version number of the bad driver in case others are experiencing related symptoms ?
  4. Basil, I thought maybe I had lead you in the wrong direction and had not tested the theory. However I just ran a test and it seems to work fine. Take a quick check on your railing height and see if that helps.
  5. Yes X10 has stepped and or angled, or even curved layout box editing abilities. No more cad masks for that ! As for the edited layout lines, I think it is still the same as X6, maybe a few less lines or I have gotten better at my connections. There is a manual update now but I thought it always was that way. Or you can use the new live elevation views.
  6. Yes it is an expansive subject but you are not limited to modeling with just primitive tools to create a symbol as anything visible is included into the symbol so you can use walls and windows and anything else you like in 3D. You can even make a symbol of the entire model and terrain if you like. The key is to just have in your plan what is being made into the symbol by modeling in a separate plan file or copying and pasting into a new plan. Enjoy.
  7. Functionality will be limited but you can get a free copy of the X8 viewer and convert the files with it.
  8. Your .jpg looks fine. We use the short form of DBX as ( Dialogue Box ) You can set the door Thickness, Size and Position: under the General tab of the Door DBX.
  9. Joe, Is there some reason why you would export a 3DS and then reimport back into chief ? I think that extra step could also be avoided. Model in Chief and save as Door Symbol....
  10. Save it as a Door Symbol and apply from withing the Door DBX and you should be able to apply hardware and make it swing like a real door. Your PDF is a little large for the resolution. Individual .JPG screen shots are easy to post.
  11. Maybe even too big for dropbox. I get "This folder is empty". What else could go wrong ?
  12. For X9 you will need to download the Sketchup 2017 or earlier models.
  13. I would have to agree with you Larry. However I believe that a very close representation of what Adrean did in Photoshop could actually be done in Chief by using some lesser known tools in a very unconventional way. It would not be easy and I don't have time to prove it right now but agree that the presentation would have been much more valuable if 3rd party software was not used for that purpose.
  14. Terrain can be moved but you are correct there are times that it would be great to just set the elevation. Chief is not quite that sophisticated yet unfortunately.
  15. Actually the vector files are more compressed and .PNG should do the best job of preserving that. I have had the most trouble with scanned PDF's.

  17. PDF's are a known problem in Chief but usually it is a display and performance issue and not a printing issue so it would be good if you could send this in to tech support. However some potential workarounds would be converting the PDF's to .PNG or .DWG and importing that way. Also curious as to the source PDF's. Are they Vector PDF's or have they been scanned or otherwise.
  18. Yes lots of things in Chief that you set to 0" and they are not actually 0". Thanks for the warning. Would it make sense to export as "Main Layer Only" in your situation Richard ?
  19. Has anyone found a way to rotate a Schedule and have the images in the 3D Perspective Column rotate with the Schedule without the quality loss of sending it to layout as an Image. Hopefully something simple that I missed and not something CA missed. Or maybe a way to rotate the text to match the orientation of the Perspective View ?
  20. If you draw your main floor and then Build the Foundation and then Insert a New Floor your Foundation will move to Level 1 and Main Floor to Level 2 and you should be able to do that several more times if necessary. You will just need to label as required on floor plans.
  21. You will need to open each of the affected cameras one at a time and while it is open use the use the Edit Active Camera tool to access the DBX that is formatted the same as it is for the camera defaults pictured above.
  22. For it to work in your current plan you must open and set all of the saved cameras. Previous example is so you can set it as default in your template plan so new cameras will follow those rules.
  23. Doug, You also have a bunch of rooms set to "Use Soffit Surface For Ceiling" which is seriously weakening your rafter spans.
  24. If there is and issue bringing .DAE files into Chief they should be made aware of it by contacting through tech support. You could also post a sample file here and have another user try and see it they get the same results. Also let us know what version of Chief you are using.
