Ok Now I get it, and that is a unique situation unless you are using small paper. If there is no possibility of rotating the schedule to get more room you could send it to layout twice and then crop opposite sides with the layout boxes. Not sure that chief has a built in check box for that exact situation.

A little more back ground information might be required here Doug. What is the situation you need to address ?

It looks as though it was rotated at some point and the 2D cad block was not updated. Open the symbol DBX and under the 2D Block tab use the "Generate Block" button. Also I am not sure that chief will generate a proper cad block in the correct location if there is an X or Y Origin Offset under the 3D tab. Post the plan or a sample if that does not work for you.

Unless you want to do a Electrical elevation view, I would just connect the wire to a note with a box around it that says what you are connecting to and what floor it is on.

You may actually be able to have both doors operate by adjusting the elevation of one slightly and sliding the man door into position overtop of the garage door however it would not really look right to have the garage open unless you turned off the man door by putting it on a separate layer.

It can be done but takes a bit of work. You will need to make two custom window symbols and that will allow you to have separate symbols for the sash and frame and then you can use the symbol dbx to rotate the sash symbol.

Thanks Eric, I will send that one in when I have a moment. I think they are starting to like me over there. It kinda makes sense to place a window between existing or proposed studs I think. Save the forest you know.

Yup I was able to break it in your template as well. Step 1 Draw short 8-10' section of 2x6 Exterior wall. Step 2 Frame Wall on 24" centers. Step 3 Insert my window centered perfectly on an existing stud so it fills in two stud cavities. Step 4 Reframe wall. Step 5 Extra Cripple studs ? YES or NO I seem to find stuff like this with every build unfortunately.

Ok then I ran into the problem in my template so I tested in the stock profile plan that I posted. Is this another one for product development or do you have any ideas as to what went wrong. Maybe some glitch with a window that fits perfectly between centers or not exactly perfectly ? Thanks for confirming.

Can someone check for me if I have a setting wrong. Chief is auto framing with an extra ghost window sill cripple in the position of the Jack stud or Trimmer as chief calls them. Not cool to hide duplicates like that. Crazy Cripple Test .plan

Do all your work in X9 ? Or use a labeled cad line with arrows. I think maybe Michael had some slightly different method as well.

X10 should run fine on Windows 7 without making any adjustments.

Not so sure you can have both operational using the software's automatic features but you could certainly have one operational by modeling a custom garage door symbol as Eric has suggested or you could have an operational man door by modeling a separate doorway and door and combining them in your plan. Choose an example and someone may be able to give some more specific instructions.

Change the Layer in Active Defaults or better yet do some reading on Annotation Sets and they can control the dimension layers.

Yes the offending standard polyline with solid white fill is drawn in plan view. Drawn to reveal only a perimeter hatch pattern for the green polyline.

Sorry guys, I should know better but it just seemed so reproducible that I figured someone had run across it before. The Solid fill is in a Standard Polyline that the layout box border runs through at the corner of screen shot with linweights turned on and border set to 25 on drawing group 1 in layout while the (white) filled polyline is drawn in plan on group 21.

Is there a way to adjust the draw order of a Layout Box Border such that it is over top of the drawing it is being used to crop ? Why would an object with solid fill completely blot out the border that is supposed to be defining it ? I don't usually use Layout Box Borders but found a project where I thought it would be a handy tool for the circumstance. Oh and yes the solid fill was a workaround for another problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Or you may be able to use a png billboard image and superimpose it in front of the wall.

If I am following along with what you are trying to say Steve. I see the logic however Cad Detail from View does not change the properties of the dimension line or text. This has been requested as an option for other purposes but is not possible yet.

You would likely be better to have separate plan files for each roof configuration. However I think you could have several styles in the same file if you manually built them all or at least the revised versions and used transform and replicate to move them on and off site say 250' away so they were not in the way. You could even have them set up to be spaced evenly apart and select all roof planes and one move could make a complete switch.

Sorry that may not have been as clear as it should have been. Use an elevation camera and set the cutting plane at the center of the plate. I will try to find time to make you a video.

Likely the easiest way to do that would be to place the plate centered at 0,0, and cut a section through the middle then draw a very thin face and revolve it 360° around the Z-Axis. Then recreate it as a new symbol.

That is a rather delicate thing to do in Chief but the theory would be to have separate materials on the symbol such that they could be edited afterwards. You could carefully add a thin layer to an existing symbol or start from scratch and model your own components.
