Those would be manually placed but if there was a way to designate left and right end posts as well as line (center) posts it could be done with existing railing tools. Unfortunately chief treats all the newels the same.

I think this is about as close as you are going to get until Chief gives us the dedicated tool we need. Even if you find this works for you please take a moment and put your thoughts into the suggestion forum.

File Import > Import Patterns -Imports to user library directly.
-
Looks as though that may have been an oversight as X11 has the same Pattern files in the Data folder as X10 but they are don't seem to be all accessible from the library or DBX as it was set up in X10. Until you get a better answer you can import the patterns you need for now from an X10 plan file and put them into your X11 user library.

Mick, I have not loaded the full version yet but it seems to work fine in the public beta version to go to "Edit Active Camera" > Backdrop just as in X10. Yes a whole bunch of 3D plants or trees would cause a problem for the 3D viewer. Backdrops need to be plan specific for the best results. I often take an actual site photo and if the scale is a little off create my own p-solid backdrop and apply the image as a stretch to fit material so it can be just right. Adjust the size or tweak the angles as necessary.

Likely your model is too large or too detailed. You can exceed the recommendations a little but there is a limit. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03068/viewing-managing-and-sharing-3d-viewer-models.html

Give Plot lines a try and see if you still have the offset issue.
-
Yes that can be quite useful for some situations but still technically correct that the line styles you use to draw your cad bloc are not recognized even if you can override that and reassign a line style it is still only one single line style right ? So until chief allows us to have 2D cad blocks with line styles recognition we are limited to only one straight line style for 2D cad blocks unless I am not understanding what you are up to. It seems Mick used an inserted cad block and did not assign it to the symbol. So if you take the time to use line segments you can assign it to the symbol and put it in your user library.

Sounds like you are sending drawings to page 0 which is just the template for your sheet layout borders etc. Send to page 1,2,3,4.... Plot line Sections and Elevations need to be manually refreshed. You could try live views if they are simple but will slow your system.
-
2D cad blocks do not recognize line styles but you can always use individual line segments to build a cad block. One I did recently was a three bladed ceiling fan to show the diameter and clearance as well as relocate the center of the insertion point.
-
That is a fairly significant offset. Chief still has some offset issues to work out but usually not that bad. What method did you use for the layout. Plot lines or live ? Also did you send to layout from vector view ?

It would definitely be great to know about that setting as I don't think that is even possible. The Objects Layer Properties tool should appear on the tool bar when you select and object but have never heard of it opening automatically. If you need to access the layer properties that often you might consider using the Active Layer Display Options and leave it docked and open.

Thanks for responding Dermot. I have not seen much in the way of positive presentable results from 3D printers at a reasonable price point yet. This new technology may tip the tables by providing the choice of materials and precision required to modernize a very old technique. It would require some research to know the level of compatibility but if Chief was to buy a laser cutter and offer a few choices of materials people who are designing their own homes or Architects that are getting started could use the service before investing in their own machine.
-
Yes but just think if you did not need scissors and could cut it out of 1/4" mahogany plywood with laser precision in half the time.
-
Eric, I think you might be wrong. This would likely work better than anyone could imagine. Have not researched the required file formats but this could open up a lot of creative new ideas.
-
Not a problem but curious why you would want to upgrade to windows 10.

How do you remove studs showing in walls on plan view?
Chopsaw replied to Francois's topic in General Q & A
You can also edit or delete them in plan view when you have the layer turned on. -
How do you remove studs showing in walls on plan view?
Chopsaw replied to Francois's topic in General Q & A
Humm... That seems like two unrelated questions. Plan view Studs are on a layer called "Framing, Wall" turn it off. Try converting your PDF's to .PNG before importing. Chief seems to handle them better and if you have PDF quality issues that can improve them. -
Elevation dimensioning and annotation challenges
Chopsaw replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
Yes just an ON OFF button when you are in Section or Elevation that would work with one click 95% of the time. Maybe if you had something really nasty and out of the norm you could create an editable cad detail the normal way. -
Elevation dimensioning and annotation challenges
Chopsaw replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
Yes story pole dimensions are improving but elevations views would be a lot easier to work with if there were some improvements. A simple solution that I think chief could implement very easily would be an auto cad detail overlay that could be toggled on or off with a one click tool on the toolbar. -
Yes I believe chief has decided to retire it. No.

Open a 2nd Instance of Chief / Copying between layouts
Chopsaw replied to bdammeyer's topic in General Q & A
You may not be holding CTRL long enough. I usually hold it until the second instance actually opens. On my machine it does not always work but if I see the little blue circle on my desktop for a second or so that always indicates it is in process. I think it is a keyboard issue. And CTRL+SHIFT works but I believe it is only necessary to hold down CTRL. And yes as Lew says be sure to respect a Master and Reference plan file if you open two copies of the same file. -
Try the wall intersection tool but with pony walls you need to make sure you are displaying the level that needs adjusting.
