  1. Solver I found where I can change it I went under the general framing or framing default under the 1 st floor I changed it in the second floor dbx, thanks for looking at it and pushing to find where to change it, the girl at Chief didn't know that either
  2. Solver where did you change the top of the i joist to show wider or did you do that manually
  3. like the picture but want the 1 1/2" to show 2 1/2" or 3 1/2" for the size I need to show
  4. yes except I want it on the floor plan and using the joist direction tool that looks like you typed the text in there I want to use it for the joist direction
  5. I have never tried to do this in all the time using Chief since I would just use a text to do it but today I want to have a 3 1/2" x 11 7/8" I-Joist to show up for my second floor joist but can't make it do it automatic with the joist direction tool, talked to Chief support but no help there, what I did was go into the second floor and select the default tool and current floor which would be for the floor joist for the second floor, then in the current floor went to edit there I went to floor structure (L) line one is 3/4" and plywd horz is selected, line 2 is 1 1/2" for the top board, then 8 7/8" for the osb, and another 1 1/2" for bottom board but I can't get them to show 3 1/2" for the top board where it show 1 1/2" all the time even when I replace the 1 1/2" with 3 1/2" for line 2 & 4. has anyone else tried to show the I-joist correctly using the joist direction tool it shows an I-joist is being used but not the correct with for the top and bottom board. Basically what I want it joist text to read is 3 1/2" x 11 7/8" I-joist or what ever height I want it to be which I know where to change that just can"t get the 3 1/2" to show
  6. Cheryl I have that same problem but it is with other programs so I am thinking it is a computer glich not a Chief one
  7. yes if you look at there website you will see both posted
  8. No if you do a search for this topic you should find quiet a few comments and request going back multiple versions each one I always hope for the revamping
  9. I agree with Eric maybe Home Designer Pro would work for your needs and I beleive that if you decide to go with the primer version they alot you some of the money you paid for Home Designer but check with Chief Sales on that one
  10. you are correct what a pain and until the stair and railing tools are revamped totally it will be a pain, I spend way to much time on some of the steps I need to do
  11. Michael as always thank you for the information
  12. Michael the way you show the party wall example what fire rating would you get not using the shaftwall material, inspectors here want a full firewall between party walls for fire a 2 hour fire protection between each unit, I might be wrong the way you have it if a fire breaks the 5/8 type x sheetrock it could get into the other walls and other apartment, I know on the townhouses I always spec the shaftwall
  13. If your looking for a true fire separattion we spec a product called shaft wall and from a 2 x 4 wall on each side to put any electric or plumbing into this way there is a true firerated wall between and I beleive it is a 2 hour rating, I uploaded one of my details for that wall shaft wall.calibz
  14. I think what you are asking is not for how far below grade the footing needs to be but what size do you need to support the foundation and walls above if that is the case do what Michael said and contact a structural engineer because the loads will vary, I am fortunate to have my son as a structural engineer
  15. under active layer display options turn off opening header lines
  16. It matters what version of Chief you are using and what version of HD they are using if it is compatible, I did a project with someone but had to use X7 to work on his plan files so we could share them with each other
  17. draw using poly line and convert to countertop or just use a custom counter top, shape it to what you want and adjust the height to what you want
  18. Thanks Lew I will, sad to say I usuall don't read the lic agreement and I should or give it to my lawyer to read
  19. Just thinking if we are suspose to be able to use the program versions forever and if someone decides no to upgrade and this happens to them isn't Chief responsible to supply them with a way to be able to use the lastest version they purchased or am I thinking wrong, I always update to the lastest version since it is my business using chief every day
  20. Michael I would be interested in this also since I have someone working off site with my second license and would like to have the same library's the same for both instances. I storm my plans in Dropbox for both of us to have access but would like for both of us to have the same lib as well as the same everything
  21. You can make the ceiling height of the second floor to 1 1/2" do your roofs once the roof is on change your ceiling height back to what you want it to be and you should see the plate once framed
  22. In your wall definitions make a wall with no material (air space) for the framing and you shouldn't get anything in your material list
  23. I wish they would revamp the stair and railing tool I am doing a project know with interior stairs that there is open steps on the right for 3 steps and 9 steps on the right side that does into the rest of the wall going up to second floor and has open below for steps to go down into the basement so there needs to be walls under both open area's with the steps covering those walls, I know about winders and maxium contraction I have both of those set. I have made a suggestion to be able to do a line break like we can do for the roofs and be able to drag that portion out over the area over the wall we want to have open. Steps and railings revamping have been asked for a few times they have made minor adjustments be we need major ones for both, I would like to be able to split the porch railing so that the post goes to the rim where you want it and inbetween have a short post. Sorry for the rant but steps are starting to get to me bad when I can show my client the way they want them to look, if there are any stair guys maybe they could do a video, thanks for reading
  24. Another site you might look at is ChiefExperts.com, I have been using Chief for awhile and belong to both of those groups, well worth it
  25. Thanks for the explanation Marc guess I will just keep doing what I am doing until something other comes also
