I also come from a construction background having a business for 45 years and wasn't ready to quiet, I stated using Chief with version 2 doing design build for clients, this program was fairly easy to use sine it draws like you build, I have no reqrets and use it daily building houses and additions on the computer instead of the field, there is still going to be a learning curve, look into chiefexperts.com, David Michaels Designs, youtube and chief video's, this site is great for asking questions and getting answers from a great group of people all willing to help when you are stuck, hope this helps your decision

Hi Bob, I tried the ones from Cartridge world that is in my area and they didn't work for me when I had the hp 500, I didn't do it but some places will let you return them if they don't work check that out first before buying the only remanufactured ink I got to work was in my smaller printer the epson 7520

not sure but you might want to try to bring it in just in ft and inches since the program deals with ft and inch then when you send it to a layout page scale it to the 1=20 scale, since I don't have your survey to import I can only give it a guess

CA Comparison to SoftPlan
chief58 replied to Potential_Custmr's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
What Mick said about industry experience really helps with Chief, I have/had a builders background doing remodel and new homes before getting into Chief and know just use Chief as the years have started to get to me and my body , I use Chief daily for clients most of whom are builders doing CD to our UCC codes in my state, I don't have to advertise since if I can't build it I don't draw it or can do a section detail of that area and the builders like that and so do the clients of there since they get to see the 3d views, I did spend the money to try Softplan a few years ago thinking that might work better for me but it sits on a shelve collecting dust and haven't looked back using Chief, if you do get Chief there this is a good place for asking questions or join Chief Experts Acadamy to review and learn, there are Utube channels guys have and David Michael Designs has a lot of good information, so the information is out there for Chief users not sure what is out there for softplan since I have never looked back -
I don't always use the old lic. but occationally I have a client that I help that has an older version or one of the home designer software that I need to work with on an older version I have X5 thru X10 on mine that I use them only to help other clients
-
I see they don't have our previous versions there anymore is there a reason for this, didn't they always have the previous versions that you purchased of the ones they still supported
-

Here is the way I do it
-
select your roof planes and select framing the rafters will frame you might have to setup an annotation set for this when you do it works seamlessly and shows all the rafters, hips and fascia'S
-
check for a wall that might not be connected or a wall with a strange name or a wall in the wall specifications that has room definition checked
-
you have to break the roof around the walls you put in so that they show through, in other words your roof is covering your walls
-
Thanks for sharing Glenn, you have helped a lot of chief guys understand what was happening there, much appreciated
-
Porch roof is 3' higher then the rest of the house which has 12' clg's interesting why that would happen
-
Thanks Glenn I will look in the morning also, have a safe trip

I have a plan I want to do auto generated roofs which I don't do to often and the roofs only cover only part of the exterior walls, I have check to be sure that I have roof and ceilings turned on in each room but still nothing, I have ask Chief support and sent in the plan yesterday and haven't heard anything so if someone has sometime can they take a look at this to see what they think it might be Thank you reinheimer_roof_plan.zip
