As Chris and Larry both showed, you can just choose the arrowhead style that goes the other way. Another thing you could do is not use the cross section line with an arrowhead and use the leader line instead. Just select the callout and drag the diamond handle at the bottom to create it the same way you can for text objects. This should let you move the callout wherever you want.

Nope. You can use the search tool which is waaay faster than scrolling. You can also use the ALDO which will only show you the layers for the object you have selected.

How to stop light switches from changing single pole to 3 pole
DBCooper replied to Ed_Orum's topic in General Q & A
Open the switch dialog and turn off "automatically change switch type when wiring". -
How old was the older version? Is it on the same machine as the new version? Depending on your answers, you might be able to use the auto migration to make this happen. If not, you will have to do it manually by exporting it from the old version and importing it into the new version. These tech articles should help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00001/backing-up-chief-architect-content.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00091/restoring-chief-architect-content.html

Try making the cabinet side a custom face instead of an end panel. Then you can make any face item an inset panel.

Well the most obvious answer is to call back tech support since their suggestion didn't solve the problem. Does this problem happen even with a very simple walkthrough in a very simple plan? If not, then it is probably something in the plan. If it does, then it might be a problem with the codec you are using. You can try using a different one and this article has more info: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00076/specifying-what-video-codecs-to-use-for-walkthroughs.html

Dimension Lines OK on Layout but Too Thick on PDF
DBCooper replied to sea_lyons's topic in General Q & A
Did you send it to layout as a live view or as plot lines? I usually use plot lines so I am not sure how and when the live views update the line weights. Do you have line weights turned on when you are looking at the layout? If not, then you won't be able to tell what they will look like when sent to a pdf or printed. -
Did you put the new studs on a layer that is not being shown in the other views? There could be other reasons they don't show but this is the most obvious thing to check. Also, it might depend on how you drew them in the cad detail. I always find it is easiest to just make a copy of an automatically built stud then it is to draw new ones. If you click on the copy tool button and then drag from the move handle, it will stay aligned between your plates. The only other thing that I can think of is if you ever rebuilt the wall framing for the wall. This would toss all of your changes and then give you the default framing. If none of this helps, then I would recommend that you post the plan that has the problem so that someone can poke around in it.

Joey's method works if you want all of the rails and stiles to be 3/4". If you just want either the left or right stile to be 3/4", you need to do that on the cabinet sides page of the cabinet dialog and it only shows up if your cabinet is a face frame cabinet.

Chief has two different types of library objects related to doors. One is called a "doorway" and the other is called a "door". Personally, I think Chief should rename these because I have seen lots of people get confused by what they call them. The "doorway" library object is what I think of as the actual door because it includes the door panel, jamb, casing, hardware, and everything else that you get when you have a door in a wall and open the door specification dialog. The "door" library object is really just a door panel symbol. It's just a single panel and nothing else. When you have a door in a wall, and you open the door dialog and then click on the library button for the "door style", you can only choose a door panel symbol from the library. You can't choose a "doorway" library object. It's the same reason that when you open the cabinet dialog that you can only choose a cabinet door symbol for the door style and you can't pick an actual cabinet. So if you want to use the "NW Aluminum 640" door in a plan, you will need to find it in the library and then click on a wall to put it in your plan. You can't choose it from the door dialog as a "door style" because it is not a door panel symbol.

You might just need to post the .layout file since that is where the text is having the problem.
-
You could post it to an online site, like drop box or one drive, where it can be downloaded. Or make a copy of the plan and delete all of the stuff that has nothing to do with the problem.
-
Or turn on "auto rebuild terrain".
-
The "NW Aluminum 640" you are showing in your picture above says it's library type is "doorways". This means that it can't be used as a door panel. You can only choose library symbols that are marked as "doors" to use as a panel. You could probably just delete your existing door and place the 640 one from the library into your plan. Also, it looks like you have some libraries that need to be updated. That's what the little chasing arrows icon next to them means.

See if you accidently turned off your "temporary dimensions". Look for it on your right side toolbar (if you are using the default toolbar setup) or in the "view" menu.

How do I access my chief from my new laptop?

" I think I'm done rendering in Chief .. "
DBCooper replied to basketballman's topic in General Q & A
@VHampton Re: your first picture. Minor changes are the least of the issues. There are some pretty nonsensical additions as well. I especially like the way the tv stand is missing a leg and has a plant growing through it. Why two tv's and where do you sit if you want to watch one of them? I'm not sure about the 6" high coffee table either. Might be a reach to get your coffee. -
Temporary dimensions for Electrical Fixtures
DBCooper replied to Jake_Caufield's topic in General Q & A
I don't think I ever saw temp dimensions for electrical fixtures. I just fired up my old X12 and they're not there. You should be able to create them manually though. -
Are you printing to a pdf? Are you using the Chief Architect "save as pdf" tool? In any case, it might be a problem with the print drivers. You could try posting your plan to see if someone gets the same results as you. They might also be able to figure out if you did something wrong or a way you can fix it. Here is a very generic tech article about printing to pdf: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00768/creating-a-pdf-document.html Here is one that has some info about using other pdf print drivers: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00483/pdf-print-driver-information.html

You could open up the layout file, click on the layout box you want to relink, and then find the file you want to link it to. You could also go to the "tools" menu and find the "referenced plan files" tool under the "layout" section.
-
Best to post a new topic instead of bring a 9 year old thread back from the dead. You should just be able to right-click on the library object, use the "open object" tool to open the dialog, go to the "object information" page, and type in the code you want.

Mystery wall framing generated from...nothing?
DBCooper replied to ChiefTesoroTX's topic in General Q & A
Do you have any walls on hidden layers? They will still get framing even when you can't see the wall in plan view. You should probably post your plan for problems like this. Might need to make a copy and delete a bunch of stuff to get it small enough to attach to the forum. Should probably zip it as wall but you need to make sure the plan is not open when you do this. Another thing you could do is post in on a cloud service to share. -
The simplest way to get your sloped ceiling is to let the program automatically build the roof and then open up the room dialog and turn off the ceiling. This will allow you to see the underside of the roof on the inside of your room. If it is too steep, then just change the pitch of the roof. This tech article covers the basics: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00471/creating-a-cathedral-ceiling.html

You need to put in a "complete break" instead of a normal break. What you have now is one stair section with 2 sub-sections and you need two different stair sections. Once you have two stair sections you can make them different widths. Here is some more info: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/25690-stairs-complete-break-tool/

Did you have the plan open in Chief when you tried to attach it? That can sometimes cause problems. Maybe the plan was too big. You might want to try putting it into a zip file before attaching it. As for your flared walls question, there is no simple way to just make a wall flared at the bottom like that. You might be able to get what you want by adding a molding to the wall that creates the flare. You could also just create the flare using a poly solid. In both cases, you would just set the material to the same as the wall.
