  1. Check your dimension defaults to see if locate objects is set properly. Are you working in a cad detail or plan view? Is it really just a polyline, or is it something else? Is it being draw using reference display or is it in a cad block? Are you trying to dimension to something on a layout that is really in a plan view? So many possible reasons which is why you might want to post the plan.
  2. If it fixed itself, then it was probably a rebuild terrain issue. I have seen the program get the terrain out of date even with the auto rebuild on but if auto rebuild is off then it is usually out of date as soon as you make any changes. The other thing that can cause something like this is a terrain hole. That was going to be my first guess and if it wasn't that it was going to be a "post the plan" issue.
  3. Maybe you snapped to something else before the dialog opened and it threw off the angle? You could try turning off all snaps except angles but that might not make it any easier. You could try always dragging out far enough that you don't pick up any other snaps because the distance doesn't matter since you are going to type that in. I still like using the transform/replicate whenever I know exactly what I want.
  4. When you get into the "enter coordinates" dialog, try checking "polar" and then you can set the angle you want. You can also use the "transform/replicate" dialog to do this.
  5. You might want to post something on the suggestions forum then. Chief always says they don't look for suggestions in the Q&A forum.
  6. Just to be clear, any pattern can be "moved" just by setting the horizontal and vertical offset for the fill style. Not the same as setting the origin but should be able to get you what you need if you are willing to do all that futzing around. Personally, I would probably choose a different fill style so that it doesn't matter if the patterns are not all aligned with the origin.
  7. If all you need is a very basic one, all you need to do is create some polylines and mark them as include in schedule. Then create a custom schedule that includes polylines and has the area column and the totals row. You could create two of them, one to show living areas and the other to show the non-living areas.
  8. You should be able to do this using the molding tools but personally I find them a bit clunky to work with. Might be easier to use wall niches instead. Just set the wall niche to 0" deep (which will make it 1/16" for some reason) and then you can set the casing to the trim profile you want. You can even use the "match roof" setting to get most of the top row at the right angle but you will have to use something else for the middle one. You might have good luck with the "triangle arch" type.
  9. Seems to be working for me. Do you have "use wall width" checked by chance?
  10. Try using the single stringer option with open risers to see if that will be close enough.
  11. Check your preferences to see if your status bar is turned on. If it is, you might try turning it off, closing the program, and then turning it back on again. If that doesn't help, you might want to try resetting your side windows in preferences. If none of those help, you might want to post a picture of your screen.
  12. Call tech support when you can. Assuming it is all plans, this sounds like a problem with your machine or installation because I have not heard of anyone else having problems like this. If it is just a particular plan, then it sounds like it could be a bug. In either case, it seems like the kind of thing you will need tech support to help with.
  13. I don't think you actually want to see the rim joist because the siding should be dropping down to cover it. So things I would look at would be to see if your walls are set the default heights (you should not need to manually change wall heights except for special situations) or if you have done anything goofy in your floor structure. An easy way to reset your wall heights is to use the "reset to defaults" tool. If this doesn't help, then you should probably post your plan.
  14. You could also post the plan file so someone can take a look at it.
  15. A picture of what you are after would be good. Unless you need to show the actual framing details, this might be pretty easy just using a stretch-to-it texture of the tread design.
  16. Did it say "optimize" or did it say "vacuum"? I have never seen optimize but according to the manual this is what the vacuum does: When content is deleted from the Library Browser, data associated with that content may remain in the library database. If you delete library content for the purpose of increasing available disk space, you can right-click on the User Catalog as well as the Trash and select Vacuum from the contextual menu. See The Library Browser.
  17. If the layer for the molding is on for that view, then maybe your molding is too high or low to see. Could also be an invisible material? Could also be a bad molding profile? Probably other things as well so if you want better than guesses, you will need to post the plan.
  18. Your material needs to have a pattern for the pattern to show up. You can actually generate one from the texture using the "define material" dialog but these might take some tweaking to make look ok. You can also assign one of the pre-made ones. Personally, I find wood grain patterns way too busy for elevation views. Here is a training video that might help, but there are lots of other videos and articles about this stuff: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/259/creating-and-editing-custom-patterns.html
  19. Smaller font? Diagonal fraction style? Smaller size for fractions? Probably lots of other settings that might give you better results but those are what I thought of quickly.
  20. If you use the "make terrain hole" feature, it is then manual and you will have to update it anytime you move walls. Do whatever you think is easier. There are times though, like when you have a stepped foundation/floor plan, that moving the terrain down or even up a floor still won't give you what you need. In these cases, you have to make your own terrain hole.
  21. See if this helps ( I think most of it still works for X16): https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00090/obtaining-and-updating-library-content.html If not, then you can always call tech support but not sure if it will be free or not since you are on an older version.
  22. You can't change the template for plans or layouts once they have been started. You can start a new layout using the right template and then copy everything over. You can also just resize the drawing sheet and then just remove the borders and title block and copy them over from the right template. Either way is a bit of work but not too much.
  23. Have you tried editing the cad block and setting the insertion point where you want it?
  24. I get the arch block button as soon as I select two or more material regions or custom backsplashes. If you want to make the block out of just one, you need to hold down the shift when you select it. This puts you into group select mode which makes the block tool show up. If it's not that, then you probably need to post the plan.
