  1. Post your plan so people can look at it and give better advice , What version are you using?
  2. change the Default Floor structure to 4" solid Concrete and delete the OSB subfloor layer , you need to setup all your defaults Before you start your drawing, as much as possible to match existing conditions , things such as Room heights, window and door types etc. .....Floor Joists and OSB are the OOB settings Chief Comes with.
  3. I think marking the interior wall load bearing ,should add a Footing under it but if not add one on the foundation Tab for the wall.
  4. No , sorry the setting doesn't make the Casing disappear ,nor does it ignore the Casing if you have it on , all it does is allow you to push the window or door with Casing On thru the drywall etc otherwise it bumps upto the drywall and stops. It is great for situations like where you have 1x4 Casing but , in a tight room only perhaps 1 stud in the doorway or even no stud....and it seemed to help here too.... but I only tried it in one plan I had open.... M.
  5. Just curious if you all have not set "ignore casing on opening resize" in your Defaults> Plan , as a Pass Thru shoved to the "T" wall and then the casing and sill turned off works for me and that is the only other setting I can think off ...I have it on in My Template Plan so it's always there and on.... M.
  6. Yep , CA is more than a couple years behind the Building Industry when it comes to Code and Technology , good thing a lot hasn't changed since 1986 ( including some of their library models )
  7. Sorry about the Vacation , you do need to rest up before the UGM ....think I heard Scott say 1st round was on him I usually don't have Line weights on either so hadn't tried that .... I have heard the Ultra Sharp's are nice monitors , they can get pricey though Us "Old Fella's" need 50" wide screen LCD's to see anything , so that might explain the sharpness issue
  8. No worries , was just a little Brain teaser that CA likes to throw out there to keep us from having to visit Luminosity and I thought I might learnt something along the way I misunderstood what you call a Trimmer , here we call it a Jack Stud and it is nailed to the Full height (King Stud) to support the header and I though you wanted 2 + the King Stud. CA wont allow 0 Trimmers , and it appears highly dependant on the spacing how it frames , the left side of the door generates the double stud at 3" in My Plan but the right side wont until it has 3 7/8", then it gives a King Stud ,while the left side gives two trimmers, just another one of those weird CA inconsistencies' that drives everyone crazy ... though I assume the opening would be framed with one long header with the Trimmers underneath ? but Mull the Units and that really confuses CA ,single hole or not... but the Trim looked better unmulled too especially on the inside but I didn't play too long with that. 9. servers are still having issues I haven't been able to get in here or Hometalk for the past hour or so , library was still up but Forums and website have be inaccessible again.
  10. that may have changed in X6/X7 , I run into issues with X5? working out of town with no internet and CA wouldn't open , back then you couldnt update etc online by phone either by logging into my account , so I had to wait till I had inet access again log in and then I was ok again , I called Support and I think they told me every 14 Days but perhaps it was 10 ? but at the time they couldn't help me at all either. EDIT I guess it hasn't Kirk just posted above me at the same time.....
  11. hi Dennis , had a play with your plan , I set each window and the door to have 1 trimmer in the Framing Tab and then made sure there was enough room between the units for the framing to generate after also setting the RO spacing for side to 0" . CA needs 4 15/16" to generate 3 studs minimum even with RO at 0" it seems , not 4 1/2" . It looks a little bit screwy in Plan view but in 3D it looks fine and it Mulls nicely. (uncheck "single hole" for framing to show) Sommar Porch_MH.plan
  12. Set you Deck Room Defaults as you need them using DJP advice ,so every deck you draw is the same .... Edit>defaults>Rooms>Deck Room>Structure Tab Decks should not have a Floor finish , make it 0"
  13. Hi Larry any chance that is the plan you were trying to get Board and Batten on about a month ,maybe 2 back (looks similar) and Glen suggested using a separate framed wall?
  14. Build>Floor>Foundation >>derive from 1st floor ,hit OK and you should then be on Level 0 I thought Suite had Autobuild Foundation on by default but perhaps not this will give you Level 0
  15. Well Jon , bad news is you don't need a vacation but I have to say your eyesight / monitor must be great .... The pixel at 0,0 only "shows" when you select something in the plan , and I had to switch my background to grey to see it happening I see it in your plan which I added a 00 point to , see if you see what I see ,a dark dot, in your updated plan below when you click on the Callout or CAD line Cross Untitled 8 with 0,0_Pixel.plan
  16. How did you make the Railing section Rich? just curious as the ones I made in the other thread followed the stairs no problem using a manually drawn straight railing ( auto railing off ) and the Balusters set to Panel
  17. Bit strange as I thought CA only needed to Check In once every 14 days (security) , unless you are activating/deactivating of course , so this "outage" really shouldn't have been an issue . M.
  18. Thx guys appreciate the Good thoughts and Prayers , symbols and plans are in the Symbols Forum.
  19. Hi Cheryl , in case you want to look , I added the actual symbol creation plan above with notes too.
  20. Thx Rich , nice to know someone missed me
  21. These are the Symbols shown in the Q&A thread (and below) and a Test Plan to show how they look on the Deck as well as the Stairs and some notes on how they were made but I'll post some pics of the settings to use with the Railings in the Library Below too, so no need to download the plan to get the symbols unless you want to look at it. I also made CAD Blocks with the Balusters showing so you can turn on the Railing "Draw" setting if you like to see them in Plan view. . My Test Plan to make sure all was working including Stairs: Cedar and Wrought Iron Rail-Test Plan.plan The Actual Symbol Creation Plan for The Knuckle and Basket Railing Symbol ,with notes/how to Cedar and Wrought Iron Rail3.plan Note that the Wrought Iron has curves etc ,so may slow your plan down depending on your gfx card. Cedar Rail with W.Iron Baluster Panels.calibz how to set them up Q&A Thread: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5955-mixed-railing-balusters/#entry52296
  22. Sorry to leave everyone hanging ,unfortunately I just spent a few days in Hospital and still need a few more tests. Actually I know all you guys can do it knowing your abilities with Chief but I will add a post in the Symbols Forum with the Rails shown above and another I messed about with while I was making those two ,which was relatively easy as someone at CA had already made the knuckles and baskets in the Bonus Arcways Baluster and Newels Catalogue. Making those isn't at my 3D artist skill level ie 0 , which is why I know anyone can do it Using a panel allows you to mix and match the balusters in the Railing , other wise CA only allows you to use a Single instance of any of them at a time , which it repeats, so making a short section which is repeated is pretty simple , especially once you do it once. Note: I found there was no point making 6' or 8' sections in this case , as it seemed to screw up the auto newel spacings etc and not work correctly ,so I keep it to about 3'. Mick Edit: the Post in the Symbols Forum: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6005-cedar-railings-with-wrought-iron-knuckles-and-baskets/
  23. I have seen posts before with issues with balusters ,so I know to use a panel for this type of thing , one can be made pretty much like the photo with the Arcways catalogue items it's not too difficult , the other I can't match as I don't have the Scroll in the middle so I used the Arcways Scroll ,but it is really too big, maybe the other scroll is in another library ? I didn't look to hard , it's late. If either works let me know and I'll posts the symbols in the Symbols forum. M.
  24. Thanks Joe, I always appreciate your Macros , i'll delete the 1st file so I don't mix things up...
  25. Thanks Joe , I guess you changed them since this morning and updated above?
