  1. I will 2nd this comment as I do similar Work , the ML only has in it what is modelled , ie no glue, nails, screws, hangers etc on the "hardware side" , and generally allows no waste %, not all calculations are 100% accurate or done the Industry Standard way etc , so be careful. Unfortunately the ML portion of CA has not been programmed by/with help from a Quantity Surveyor , it only extracts exactly whats in the model , so using workarounds etc can alter quantities or they aren't reported at all.... personally I find CA's ML alot of work and I don't trust it , I wouldn't use it for a fixed priced Contract for sure... 2. there are new free grass textures in the Library , hopefully one will work for you ..... here : https://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/detail/1058
  3. There are CAD Images in the Library with trees by the look.... but don't know what you need these for 3D renders or Elevations etc? https://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/detail/765 can you import those trees from Sketchup perhaps?
  4. I assumed Chief Certification when I read it .... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/training/chief-architect-certification.html
  5. I think the Tech maybe trying to get Viki to buy a new system from him/her perhaps ???
  6. edit : what JJ said precuts depend on where you are locally and even which lumberyard you use so ask ...... this is in California but these are also my local suppliers precut lengths ie for 8' it is 92 1/4 http://haywardlumber.com/product/pre-cut-studs/
  7. Ouch $1700 to reinstall windows and some programs ? $200-300 hour? offer to pay your neighbour's kid a $100 to do it just make sure all your Chief Files/folders and other important documents are backed up to an external drive 1st At that age it maybe that the Motherboard has issues leading to the BSODs, and there is no repairing that Ram is likely DDR3 so won't re reusable...I had the same issue upgrading from my 960 but the 1060 GFX card is still very usable , perhaps the HD too but a new comp should have a 500GB SSD to install Win10 and most of your programs on..... the old HD can still be used for storage/data backups assuming you are right about it's condition etc. A number of people here like the Dell Alienware systems actually , there have been a few threads lately on new computers on this forum and in the Chatroom including laptops... 8. it sound like chief is having trouble drawing the 0" thickness layers you defined so you are getting what is call Z-fighting (shimmering effect), make the layers 1/32" each and make the 2x4 3 7/16" thick so the wall thickness isn't altered instead. I couldn't find the shiplap wall....but best as Eric said to add a shiplap layer for those walls using a new walltype instead. I am not sure why you have a 0 " thick insulation layer on one side of you interior walls? it's also outside the drywall? if it was meant to be soundproofing in the wall? just check the INS box in the wall definition on the 2x4 Stud line.....see the images below...
  9. Clean up your template as I did in post 47 and it seems to work ok afterwards , I am sure that house won't take you long to redraw on the Clean Template... M.
  10. Me either ? probably I was in too much of a rush to get out of the Office and missed a Setting? .....post you plan and I'll check... I am sure the OP can use it too. Here we would put the vertical Insul. on the outside of the foundation wall and the whole slab would have 4" of rigid under it. On the inside is better than nothing and means you don't need to protect the Foam from Damage on the exterior though... eg with a cap and Stucco....
  11. yours specs don't seem bad , are you on a SSD or standard hard drive? been a few years since I ran windows off a HD and now I have a .M2 PCIE SSD things are pretty quick. You can always reinstall Win10 Clean if you think it is a bloatware issue....
  12. This type of Foundation is the goto Foundation in NZ ( and Oz?) in alot of areas , so the Guys and Gals from Downunder may have some pointers for you but as Eric has shown it can be done , it may just be a PITA 1st time around as you will need a new foundation wall type etc setup. I haven't tried it but the top block with the inside only 1/2 height/thickness maybe difficult to show but i think you could use a ponywall with 8" thick CMU as the lower wall and 4" thick CMU as the upper wall to get close. **edit ...the ponywall does work ( set both heights to -8) but the Slab doesn't auto fill the floor to the 4" block but you can always use a custom slab to do that
  13. I found that if I didn't delete the Floor on level 1 the issue remained, (marquee select>delete didnt fix the issue) so I used the easy Delete Floor command to do that , but as you noticed it Deleted your "Warehouse" too .....the easy fix there is to Marquee select the whole "Warehouse" and Copy it ( don't paste yet) go up to Build>Floor> Delete current Floor for both level 1 and 0 (foundation) , now Insert a Floor if you no longer have a level 1 ( may only have Attic Level now ) , NOW right click on level 1 and chose Paste Hold position and you should have your "Warehouse" Back. Or just download this plan ...... seems to work ok now for me ...see saved cameras. Humbles_stem_wall_height_2.plan
  14. the Andersen Library only provides one window size of each Type , eg the 400 series WoodWright DH you need, which you can then resize and save to you own Library for future Use as needed, which is what I assume chief58 has done. M.
  15. Pretty strange one Larry , I had a play around for my own knowledge and can tell you have been in the Room DBX's alot , so it is probably best to just delete everything as suggested by Eric and start again, that works for me too , everything drawn new comes in at 18" per the new default though you need to allow (add) 1 1/2" for the Sill Plate if you want a 18" high concrete Stem Wall. Weirdness like this will certainly drive you crazy Your plan after my deletions and a redraw..... Humbles_stem_wall_height.plan
  16. I had slow downs yesterday and it was cos win10 was trying to update to Win10 1709 ( Fall Creators edition) , once I allowed it to complete and rebooted everything was back to normal..... check Settings>Updates and Security> see if it is waiting for a restart ? M.
  17. Are you sure Chief is using the Geforce 1060 and not the GPU biult into the i7-7700K ? cos you plan is fine here.....less than a sec. for sections or overviews on my 980ti. in Nvidia Control Panel , in manage 3D settings on the Program Tab make sure the 1060 is the GPU chosen not the iGPU ( intergrated graphics) and see if that helps.....its a common problem on laptops with decicated graphics cards too...
  18. As Lew mentioned Johnny , I don't think it would of helped with your particular needs , at one point even the CAD was in a separate page/plan but all files had to be in the same folder to be accessed or the Plan wouldn't open. For Client Options I am always making many Save As Plans with an _Option1 (2,3, etc) extension to the Main File Plan which is usually the As Built since I do Remodelling / Renos Mainly , the chosen Option then gets resaved as _Final extension...... Maybe there is a better way? M.
  19. Chief used to do separate plans for different floors but that was many years ago now . You should be able to Select ALL in the 2nd Floor Plan and Copy and paste it into the 2nd floor in the 1st Floor plan file which is currently Blank. Turn on the reference display on floor 2 1st in Plan 1 (F9) so you can position the Copy and Paste accurately once pasted. I would do this with Copies of your Original Plans so you have a backup and can try it a few times if need. seems to work ok mostly for me, though I am not sure what the alignment point is between floors. ...
  20. Didnt i read they changed the Font spacings in X9?
  21. Johnny was suggesting using Materials Regions as the Joints , as a Material Region is capable of cutting into it's Parent Object, giving you the needed inset at each joint. It cuts to the Framing Layer ( Main Layer) so you need to make the Joint thick enough to allow for the plywood, rainscreen and 1/16th of the HardiPanel (eg about 7/8 or 15/16th), so you don't see the Building Wrap/Paper etc in the Joints. You may also need to add a Rain screen layer ( use an extra framing layer) which isn't in any of Chief Wall types too. Here is the Play Plan for the image below.... Hardi+Material Region Joints Plan.plan
  22. Yes , try my Library which I posted last week in this thread.... it has 6", 8", and 10" B&B ...check out the rest of the Thread too perhaps...
  23. It sounds to me like you may be forgetting about the Casing Reveal setting 3 1/4 + 1/4 " Reveal = 3 1/2" Note .....Chief does not allow for Door gaps In X9... I think Overlap per Mark's comment is now called Reveal per the real world...
  24. This has been played around with on and off for a few years , below is a library I made about two years ago (thank to a GlennW Tip i think it was) after playing around with rain-screening like AgChief , it has 3 custom wall types and the materials I used to make the Batten material , have a play and see what you think.... Same approach should work for the OP's Walltype I think. - If you don't see the Battens , you haven't got the Framing Layer On in that particular view... ( or haven't built framing if not on automatic) - Only down side is some manual work at Windows and doors if I remember correctly in Elevations etc .... - make the cedar layer ( 1x6.8 or 10) 11/16 thick and the batten 11/16 too, then you wont get Z-fighting if your window and door trim is 1 1/2 inches thick eg 2x6 this is the post where we were discussing this last time with more info : another old thread and some pattern files and a quick play on a test house tonight.... 25. Basically the Countertop Corner Setting refers only to the countertop itself , not any holes in the countertop As for the side panel you need to set the Panel Configuration on the Accessories Tab 1st and then set the Side to Panelled or Auto Panelled.... From your plan..... like this :
