actually only info that helps there is the Model number ( GL702VSK ) so you can delete the rest..... The reason for the exact model , is that most laptops have about 10 different configurations as you can see here.... it is a bit vague there are 6 options for Storage alone....but it looks like it will accept a 512GB SSD , so that's good news if you can afford one..... the Samsung EVO line is good , no need to spend the extra on a Pro version....not much faster , just a longer warranty. https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ROG-GL702VS/specifications/ is it this one by xotic? https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Strix-GL702VS-7700HQ-FHD-GTX-1070-Xotic-PC-Edition-Notebook-Review.207150.0.html#toc-connectivity there comments on the HDD............... Storage Devices As mentioned, the 7200 RPM HDD is slow. Interestingly, CrystalDiskMark testing places our review unit behind its smaller brother, the GL702VM, despite both notebooks using the same hard drive. This was the case with multiple rounds of testing. HD Tune may tell a more accurate story; the average transfer rate of 133.5 MB/s is more in line with 7200 RPM drives. What is clear is that the 1 TB drive in our GL702VS is outclassed by the SSD-equipped competition. Rivals are about 7 times faster in sequential read speeds and 4 times faster in write speeds. The Eurocom Tornado F5 blows everything else out of the water with its PCIe/NVMe drive, coming in at speeds over 20 times faster than our GL702VS (2145 MB/s vs. 78.3 MB/s). This is noteworthy as our unit can also accommodate NVMe SSDs. In theory, the GL702VS can attain this speed with an easily installed high-quality drive.

RT is all done by the CPU ... and you have a good one You may have a 7200RPM HDD but it will still be way slower than a SATA SSD and much slower than a .M2 Drive (they are about 4x faster than a SATA SSD) Some laptops ,especially gaming ones have two HDD Bays so it maybe possible to ADD one , and Clone the OS to the SSD ( easily done with Macrium Reflect Free) Or you can replace the HDD with a SSD I'd suggest 500GB ---1TB if you are a Gamer and have lots of Games installed. You can then use the 1TB HDD as an external Drive for backups by placing it in an External case like the MediaSonic HDK-SU3 Rev.2 , I just got one on sale for a friend for $18.00 What is the EXACT Model you have? M.

Jerry is Right, I was just looking at Shane's Plan...... it then leaves all wall height settings as Default. M.

I guess I wasn't clear .....I think it is possibly because you have NOT built all the framing yet.... in the view above you shouldn't see framing anyway , so there should be no reason to have to delete it, except as a test or to rebuild it if Auto build Framing is Off. Post the plan and I can tell you if it happens in X9....if you want.... M.

http://www.cadhatch.com/ has free hatches and seamless textures , their free Excel Hatch generator works well too , though I'm, not sure it can make that particular Hatch. M.

The weird lighting on the peninsula ( light bleed) is likely a combo of the Peninsula lights being on and the fact you haven't built a Foundation.......you should always have a roof and a foundation built in the drawing , just use a monolithic foundation if it's a project you don't need a real basement drawn in. That is a pretty dark floor , but if you want it Glossy ? Change the Floor's material properties with the Material Rainbow Tool and make it reflective and raise the emissive value to say 20% and see how it looks.... Try the raytrace at 1280x720 for 10 passes as a test , it shouldn't take 2.5 hours.... but if you RT at the screen size it will take a while especially since I think the Retina is 4 or 5k right? I'll have a look at the plan too , make sure I have given you the right advice.... looks like you done a pretty good job of lighting though... M.

Did you delete the framing or just turn off viewing framing in that particular view? ( with display options) I don't see any framing in that view except the Porch roof posts/beam perhaps , so I am not sure why you would turn it off or delete the framing if you post the plan someone will try it for you , most have the latest version , but several members have many installed eg @DJP (David Potter) as he supports and helps people with all versions as part of his Business. I am guessing that is a 1TB ( terabyte) Hard drive , not 1GB , in your Computer , ( laptop? or desktop?) which is partly why Undo is slow as it operating off , what is probably a slower 5400RPM Hard drive instead of an SSD or M2 Drive. You can copy and paste you Specs into you signature along with the CA Ver.No so that people answering questions in the future have that ino and you don't need to retype it. see mine for the quick how to, to do yours..

Some people particularly on laptops have had issues with the latest Nvidia Drivers and solved issues by rolling back to May's Version 382.05, it is a very stable Driver on my desktop as well. Mick

What are your thoughts about Chief X10's new 'Plan Views' feature?
Kbird1 replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Ooops thought that was a common abbreviation for the Materials List -
Eric is probably right , that limitation is even in Chief , you need the same or a Newer Version..... but you can likely find a symbol on Sketchup and import it in too...once again you will need to look for a compatible Model. Note that anything with alot of small curves is probably going to slow the program down , especially if you use them as the default for the Plan and you have 100-200 them in a plan. you could use them as needed in different views though, so things "look right" M.

I like the Idea too , should be handy ..... I was hoping for the promised in-depth overhaul of the ML ( Materials List) myself..... -
Chief Arch X9 Seperation of Exterior walls in 3D & Elevation Section Views
Kbird1 replied to DCB123's topic in General Q & A
Much easier to see..... and I see wall misalignment in both pics..... on the right in the 1st pic on the upper side wall and in the second pic on the left ...looking through the Arch you can see the jink in the wall lines.... Don't rely on the Alignment Tool to get it right , it definitely is not infallible..... Are the two wall types , Main layers aligned correctly? eg CMU to OSB ? ( with stucco over both?) Mick. -
I don't see that much these days, but back in X5-X6 it was more of an issue , and if it wasn't an alignment issue , usually it was bad Wall Polylines produced by the 3D Editor. Did you Build the Framing ? did it disappear? I seem to remember an issue with Framing at the Joist line back then causing anomalies...

Having the Plan and other Files on the HD is fine , a Hardrive is fast enough for that , having the Temp and Undo Folders on an SSD helped me with Undo Speed, been doing that for a few years... see above. You haven't filed in your Signature ( see mine for how) so I don't know your Specs. Mick.

I wouldn't buy an M2 just for this ....there is a difference but I was already on a EVO 850 SSD , ( M2 is theoretically 4x faster than a SSD ), if the OS is on a HD still then yes it would help I think. I wanted more space , so spent the extra on a M2... Mick.

Chief Arch X9 Seperation of Exterior walls in 3D & Elevation Section Views
Kbird1 replied to DCB123's topic in General Q & A
would be easier to see if you used the Snipping Tool , not your Phone to take pics of the screen since you can't post the plan...... might be a floor platform issue.....the gap looks to be about the same size as the Sill Plate ie 1 1/2 " -
I recently got a 500GB Samsung M2 for my main OS Drive and undo is Quicker but I would like to see a Drop down list , like in a web browser to go back , so you can skip 10-20 undos if you want to as I currently have it set to 50. One thing that Helps for me, as my Documents Folder is located on my HD (D:) not the M2 , is to make the Chief Undo and Temp Folders , via the Preferences>Folders Option to reside on C:\ ( the .M2)

AFAIK Scott , SLI has little benefit in CA , that may change of course, but it was a waste a few years ago for me.. though I see now that you have Lumion too , so perhaps it is a benefit there? Not sure about CA X10's new Physical Rendering Mode either actually... maybe things are changing in CA ? M.

Ahhh ok , thought you were still asking for ideas/recommendations .....Sager has a great name , has for years as Mark said.... but with your budget any laptop should be incredible... no way I'd go back to 24" monitors after switching to a couple of 32" ones though ...just saying..... but maybe you don't need to save a $1000 to get them too Mick.

Joe or Michael probably have a Macro for it , but you can also group select the Doors on each level , Open the DBX and Use the Code Properties Box to report to the schedule the Floor Level . eg type in BASEMENT , then Rename the Code Box to Floor Level and make sure the code (Floor Level) column is visible in the Schedule.

A 500GB PCIe 960 EVO (vs Pro) should be easily enough ( what I have in my Desktop) , save the money and get a 1 or 2 TB 7200RPM HD instead for Storage ( 5400 slow but ok for just Storage , they use them to keep heat down) Possibly 2 x 960 EVO 500GB since you have the Budget....( do you need more than a Terabyte Total?) if the Computer is Raid 0 capable , not sure Raid is needed with PCIe .M2 drives though....

Usually happens with multiple users on Wifi , or someone is using Bit-torrent or Other P2P software , the Router will lockup after a period and has to be Rebooted , constantly if the offending laptop stays connected. But there are Beta Router Firmwares' and newer Drivers from Killer Networks which have helped in alot of cases. The TP-Link Archer C7 V2/V3 , (D7 too) Beta Firmware for example is working great , at least for me , no lockup since installing it last week.... http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?94180-Archer-C7-router-crashed-by-Dell-laptop-with-Killer-adapter&p=195886#post195886 The issue is not restricted to TP-Link Routers from what I read though. The Specs on your current laptop look pretty good to me ? , that MSI one is a bit over the top for a Laptop IMHO at $3K USD, like most stuff here it would cost me $5K after taxes ........https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154698 but personally I'd spend on a better desktop and some nice monitors like BenQ's 32" models, I like mine at 2560x1440. ( I found stuff too small at 4K ) Only had 1 17" laptop and it was too heavy to use as a laptop for hauling around , this MSI one is 9lbs , so you will need a good Shoulder.... You could save $900USD ($2100) AND get a free backpack and laptop Cooler https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT73VR-TITAN-427-BUNDLE-i7-7820HK/dp/B0721KY2MT or this one with 32GB RAM + bundle for an extra $100 ($2200) https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT73VR-TITAN-427-BUNDLE-i7-7820HK/dp/B01M0XG3ZA not sure you really need a 1080 for 3D CAD..... Be aware there is currently an issue with the Killer NIC/Wifi Cards causing Routers to Fail under heavy loads , I know for instance that TP-Link has several models effected by this issue. M.

Something coming through the roof, I think its a gutter
Kbird1 replied to rispgiu's topic in General Q & A
It is just one of the Hardi Shingle Panels from the South Folder , I usually use the Single shingles but for a budget build the Panels are less costly labour wise. (you can check in he Plan i posted too) The Bellyband / Watertable is just a P-Solid , since Iwas only doing a few pieces across the front but if you want it all the way around the House use this method : (quicker and all auto positioned) https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00070/adding-a-belly-band-to-a-structure.html
