Wall Framing That Does Not Exist (Upside down gable)
Kbird1 replied to wjmdes's topic in General Q & A
I tried finding that thread but couldn't, maybe it was on the Beta Forum? but is definitely not the 1st report of this.... M. -
I need to have another play as unlike you I am not a big hotkey user but I could not get this one to work at Default ( Alt+Z ) , I thought perhaps I was hitting Alt to ealy so nothing happened so assigned D as Chris mentioned and that didn't work either , so I just use the Default Icon On put on the Side Toolbar which does work. Could well be Pilot Error of course since Hot-Keys are not my Forte. M

Images are too small , try the Snipping tool like CS. said , see my Signature for how...... Rounding Error Possibly? how accurately was it Drawn etc ? 1/16 dims and Snap Grid ? M.

I find it is better to save as a .txt ( not csv or Excel Auto Formats it), I then use Delimit with comma and Space (Tab doesn't make a difference in a Chief File as far as I can see) , accept every thing as General ( you can remove AM/PM columns or any others you want too now) and I usually get Columns A>L , using this Method. Chief does not give a Total or Column Headers when exporting for me, (Why?) so I Select Drag everything in the total time Column (K for me) , right Click and select Format Cells> and on the Number Tab...Select Time> and for Type I choose the 37:30:55 Option (in Excel 2007, others work too) then a background for the Column if desired and hit Ok. To get the Total you then select a Blank Cell at the Bottom of the Column and on the Formulas Ribbon hit AutoSum ( it will insert =SUM(Cell number you clicked in) so click in the Cell and type in your actual Column Cell IDs ie. change it to K1:K(Last Cell number) eg it should look like =SUM(K1:K53) where 53 = your actual last cell number. ( *Use your column letter if not K too ) Adjust Column widths , add Column Headers if needed , and then save it as a WorkBook (.xlsx) or PDF for a Client if needed. ( it may complain about ruining the Txt File , if you want to Keep it too , Use Save As>Workbook instead.) I don't know Excel well, so that's about as Far or Fancy as I get , probably are better ways but it's good enough ...... M.

Hi Tony, I had a play this afternoon with this and I can make it work In X10 , not sure I did anything in particular X10-ish ( Tools etc ) but X10 may handle this better than Older Versions did ? - hope this helps a bit...... Mick.

You maybe right Lew , I am not sure why I "think" the lapse period is 30 days.....but I do know once a new version is released then you no longer qualify for Renewal if not Current and must upgrade....hasn't been long since the new Release so hopefully they can help him out. From my last email about SSA : Automatic SSA renewal and discounted multi-year SSA renewal options are available. For more information, please contact Chief Architect Sales. Thank you for being a valued Chief Architect customer. Sincerely, Chief Architect Software sales@chiefarchitect.com 208.292.3400 Please Note: If your SSA expires, a $95 re-instatement will be applied and the one-year SSA period will begin from the time of renewal. If a new version has since been released, then you are subject to regular upgrade pricing. Upgrade pricing can be found at www.chiefarchitect.com. M.

The problem is Tony every Version of CA has different capabilities, and just cos I can do it in x9 or x10 does not mean the same method will work in X3. Also nobody wants to waste time on doing an x9/x10 Drawing just to test something if the OP can just Post his File ....while anyone with a newer version can open an X3 File there would be no point posting it back , as you couldn't open it and see the Fix , so we need to ask a bunch of questions. As Far as I know the Sloped Flat Roof issue has always been a problem for Parapet Style Roof systems , I wasn't using CA at X3 though.. so I am not sure if there is another fix for it but I seem to remember ( x5) that most just indicated the Slope with Notes and / or CAD lines in Section Views etc to be honest I am not sure X10 can do it Automatically Either we could use the Ramp Tool perhaps but that doesn't help you. David Potter still has X3 on his Systems I believe , if you really need help he does Offer Services in the Services Offered Forum , see his links above in Post No#8 too. M.

Sorry should of mentioned to put the Floor Depth (joist + ply) plus the 2x Plate height ( 1 1/2") into the Raise Setting in the Roof Build DBX, in your Case , still need to add the 2x Plate Manually I think ? as Chief has a Default of 3" above Floor before it builds plates automatically. M.

I believe the Lapse Policy is only available for 30 Days after the Lapse ( ie a late payment ) but also only applies if the Current Version is still active , which is probably why they are charging you for an Upgrade now because X10 has been released. ( Feb 15th )
-
Did you try the Ignore 2nd floor setting in the Build Roof DBX? ( or 3rd floor etc depending which floor you need ? ) https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00653/building-a-cape-cod-roof-that-bears-on-the-1st-floor-walls.html

I saw this Reported in Beta , but don't remember the Fix off the top of my head.....I will try and look later if you don't get a Fix from someone else there is an error of extra Trusses being generated too in some Plans that Michael ( @Alaskan_Son ) found too -
Should be all good tomorrow then when you Call Customer Support..... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/company/contact.html

They have changed how that Setting works in X10 ( or it actually works properly now? ) so people are having Issues with this Setting as it did not need changing in X9. So it's a TIP https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16849-slab-through-wall-walkout-basement-was-okay-in-x9-not-x10-beta/#comment-141745 https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17096-foundation-wall-step-down-issue/

That's about it for me too.... I've not seen this issue before though with Dims , so slow to populate....
-
really slow in Elevation though other views didn't seem bad , eg 3D overview was okay.... Tried a side and back-clipped Elevation to one building and it was a (very) little better... you and I have the same VideoCard so I don't think it is that....
-
The plan is Really slow George , at least for me , so you have to drag REALLY slowly or I think I get the craziness you describe.... either Vertically or Horizontally using the Manual Dim. Tool , vertical seems worse...I wasn't sure what Mode you were using from the OP..... and you didn't save a Camera either , so I'm not sure if it a particular Camera you are using... by default you Elevation camera ( Annotation) was Using 1:1000 Scale (numbers were huge) which made it worse .....1:50 Scale was better..... tried smaller too I didn't download all the textures in the Folder , not sure if that is my slowness issue ? or not.....assuming you don't see that it maybe... *** redownloaded entire Folder but no difference. M

Are they both the Same Camera Type ? check the ALDO and make sure all Camera types are displayed in Plan View if you use different Layers for different Cameras as I do... Also some cameras can be set to only display on certain Floors.... M.
-
You Zipped your Plan while it was Open in Chief , so the Plan file is 0kb as Chief Locks the File while it is Open. Re Zip and repost if needed... M.
-
I posted about this Issue in the Link below , X10 is not updating the Default File Types to X10 when it Installs so I had to do it manually...
-
2016 would explain why the Upgrade to X10 is not Free but I don't think x9 was available in 2016 ( Feb 2017 I think? ) but SSA may have expired July 2017 if you purchase July 2016 but that SSA would of given you the Free Upgrade to X9 but no further .....your Digital Locker tells you when SSA Expires right under the Serial No#. M.

I think the trick you need that will work in X3 is to actually do a Blank 3rd Floor (same as the 2nd Floor in the Tutorial) , so you can cantilever the Landing and the "Deck Walls" won't interfere with the 2nd story Walls , then change the Wall to Railings, , 2nd story will be 12" ( same as beams) 3rd story is set to Handrail Height, like this : M.

Best to use Pics here , people don't always like downloading Files to their Computers from complete Strangers..... From your PDF.....
-
Probably best to post some images of what you have and are trying to do , , or post a copy of your plan so Others can have a look. We also need to know what software and Version you are using at a minimum M.

I assume you mean a Parapet Roof...there is a KB article on doing those here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00295/creating-a-flat-parapet-roof.html Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version, and of course a Name is nice too ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum or are perhaps on the CA Mobile WebSite

The Auto Joined Switches don't look good in PBR ,Vector view is a bit Better and they look Fine in Standard Cam. Views , so it will depend on the Views you want or if using PBR you can just Turn them Off in the View .... if on their Own Layer. Chief's switches in X10 , including the Half (Double) Switch seems to accept multiple wires ok so..... If you do use the Dacor Library note that Many of the Switches are at 11 1/2" by default to Centre, I will likely just copy the Library and set things right as Chief has them all in Bone too. If the Default material in your Template Plan is White it should override that when placed though anyway. Perhaps you should ask Legrand to make a Library for Chief ? they do 20/20 I think..... Lutron and Leviton both do screwless Wallplates too , not sure about costing on either though....
