  1. Nice work Rene , looks like you got it sorted out ..... I have found on screened windows and doors in the past if you make the texture for the Screen Material 3/16 x 3/16 or so, it will look more like the real thing.... and reversing the colours and using Hexagon for the Pattern will make it look better in Vector Views too.
  2. It should be just like making a Freestanding Carport (Post and Beam) or a Pole Barn if your need something a bit different....both doable in CA https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00598/creating-a-post-and-beam-structure.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01069/designing-a-traditional-pole-barn-structure.html A thread from a week or two ago.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/19471-post-and-beam-construction/ and another with a Plan File to check out too https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/19459-post-beam-shelter/?tab=comments#comment-159425
  3. The easy way is to just assign a hotkey to the ALDO like ` ( key next to the 1 Key )...... I set Layer Display Options to Shift+` =~ (tilde) instead you just need to make sure the "focus" is on the main CA window for it to work ...ie click the plan window 1st it's under View Tools> see pic below
  4. Try searching O.Rift on the Forums I am sure I have seen reports about it or perhaps the Vive? M.
  5. I would say Mark has the easiest way there with putting the PDF on it's own Layer , one click in the ALDO and it is off or on.....personally I always have the ALDO Open on a 2nd monitor though to make it quicker...
  6. Don't be too hard on yourself , you are right it takes alot of effort and time to get into the "inner workings" of CA of any software this complicated/deep, best way is to just use it ..at least for me, which is why I am also checking out the Forum all the time and picking up Tips and learning while I try to help others where I can. M.
  7. If you don't want them to show up at all? .......... disable them in Preferences...... see pic. Don't forget to do your Signature Please.... the Software Version in particular makes a difference on many answers, ie X7 is very different than X10. M.
  8. Instead of using invisible Walls you can just use Stair Landings also, they will/should auto connect to staircases as well, and can have railings and nosings on selected edges. Mick.
  9. It doesn't appear you have an ..ELECTRICAL Power Layer defined , you do have and ..ELECTRICAL LIGHTING layer defined though , I think you maybe mixing Annosets and "Layer Sets " and just single Layers up.... Single Layers>Layer Sets>Annosets Set anything Power related to your new ..ELECTRICAL Power Layer (make it 1st) and anything Lighting Related to your existing ..ELECTRICAL LIGHTING Layer in the Defaults. This only covers the Default Items , so you will also need to assign other Objects you use to one of those two Electrical Layers too ( copy CA Objects to your User Library and change them there, if they are Items you will always use.) Your ELECTRICAL SET is still displaying a number of Lighting Layers and the Lighting Set is also showing some Electrical Layers you may or may not want on by default. You have a number of different Electrical and lighting layers ,( fixtures and furniture etc) so that will/may complicate what you want to see in what View (Electrical vs Lighting Annoset) M.
  10. Yep Bleed...., always build a Roof (or second story) and a Foundation even if you Model doesn't need one , CA uses them to "bounce" the light around in Raytrace and PBR views to some extent. I have also seen issues with Wall Definitions causing this in some plans posted here..... eg using interior walls for exterior walls M.
  11. AFAIK not a particular setting , just for Temp Dims , they use the currently active dimension settings I believe eg 1/4" scale etc , but the situation you are talking about is always an issue , there have been other posts with frustrated Users asking about Temp Dims too and what / how they locate objects.
  12. Tommy is in Houston , he maybe able to help.... Tommy Blair Houston, Texas V8 thru X10 Leader of Houston User Group tblair55@sbcglobal.net 713-467-0579
  13. I think anything before X6 requires a Full Re-buy now but you are right they do often have 10-20% Off at Xmas. You can also Rent Monthly now ($199) but it does work out 20% more expensive after the 16 month Rent to Own period
  14. Chief's Preferences show the OpenGL Render , RT is not OPENGL AFAIK as RT is mostly done by the CPU not the GFX card so if the UHD 630 is not disabled , during RT it is possible I guess the system is dropping back to the Intel Card..... you could try adding CA under the 3D Manage TAB of the NV Control Panel Did you upgrade the Intel GFX Drivers with the new CPU? I seem to remember other reports like this associated with the Intel card when X10 came out???? The latest NV Driver is not always the greatest ....the 400 series was released for the 2000 Series cards and aren't great from all reports I have seen , it is why I went back to 399.24 Does your MB fully support the i7-7700K? does it have the latest Bios?
  15. VideoCard Driver Issue? ..............Chief was using the 1060 not the Intel iGFX card right? all good here........ I am back on Nvidia 399.24
  16. I think Lew has stated before that you can "donate " old HASP Keys to other Users but best to call Chief and confirm .....though Lew may pop in here too and know the SOP. @lbuttery
  17. I believe Ray is correct , if you pull the Roof plane back to the inside of the exterior wall it may even popup on it's own? you should then be able to edit the Wall shape , pull it up , slope it, etc as needed, you may not need Chief at all to do that. Best to post questions like this in the Q&A section, as this section is for providing Tips , not asking for one..... M.
  18. sounds like you ( or someone) changed the Color Off Option in Preferences to gray scale

I think you need to provide some Pics or better yet a plan that it is happening in, as I am not sure I have ever seen what you are talking about. We also have no Idea what software you are using...... It's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. See mine below in Blue for how to do that. If you don't see my Signature then you have them turned off for the Forum so you need to Toggle it on by going to the Upper RH Corner of this Forum Window and Clicking on your Username and making sure Signature are enabled (green) and then Add your Own Sig. too : UserName> Account > Signatures M.
  20. The sub-fascia/fascias are indeed set incorrectly , one side has the sub fascia bigger than the fascia , though the roof pitches seem to be the same so I just set both sides up the same and it looks okay, I think, without digging deeper into your Roof Structure .....I assume you are trying to simulate a metal flashing over the Subfascia since the fascia is set to 1/8" ? Chief doesn't handle that well as it auto applies the Soffit to the bottom of the sub-fascia and since it is 3/8" thick , your metal "Fascia" will need to hang lower than 1/8" past the sub-fascia, 1/2" should work.... see the pic for the settings I used below...
  21. Use Wall Material Regions for a more realistic Tile Installation , you can set thickness etc so I think it looks better , it's also fairly easy to do feature Bands this way too. Set the tile so it doesn't cut the parent surface/object...ie it sits on the drywall/backerboard as in real life. M.
  22. You can set the Backdrop for each Camera Type in Defaults>Camera Tools in X10 it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in, especially with the Software Version, and of course a real Name is nice too .............. Many have switched to Chief's PBR Views in X10 , But we don't know what you're using since you didn't do you Sig. 24. You didn't close the plan in CA Joey before you zipped it so the Zip File is empty ( size is 1KB is a sure sign) as CA locks it while in Use.
