  1. If that doesn't help ...it should ...I found CA has them off by default..... BUT Windows 10 also has a setting now similar to MAC OS computers that lets the OS hide Scrollbars too
  2. the lighting does suggest that the Shelves have 1 1/2" lips on their front edges and perhaps 1/2" LED strips mount on the rear of the Lips , rather than vertical Strips.
  3. I've been using the one linked below, I made a couple of years ago for that , just resize the texture for different "gap" distances.... *** all Credit to David for the original texture in the same thread. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/17162-smooth-shiplap-sample/?do=findComment&comment=144121
  4. No , not as a .plan file , only Chief and the Home Designer Products can open them...
  5. You set the ROOM height not the Wall Height , CA is not like ACAD ...Wall Plate Heights are controlled by the Room Ceiling Height and / or Roof Planes. You should have a Read of the Short tutorial on doing a Cape Cod or 1 1/2 Story style Roof ..... TIP: you may need to turn Auto Roof off at some point to stop the Room Height from altering Roof heights. Building a Cape Cod or a Story and a Half Roof (chiefarchitect.com) M.
  6. I don't think it is a MAC thing Chief's whole paradigm is based around "Rooms" , which can be a good thing , but also bad in some cases..... No Room means no Floor structure, no Ceiling Structure, no moldings, no Auto Roof etc etc.......... Rooms are a very important concept in CA. ( 3 sided will do ) Chief will let you build a Foundation and even a 2nd floor with only 1 wall drawn but they will be blank in my previous testing. M.
  7. X13 will have enhanced PBR RTRT views in the Windows version (only) if you have a Nvidia RTX capable video Card, but there are also other render Apps like Twinmotion and D5 Render which are free ( or were) but come with the added complexity of learning another program. Lumion is on of the better paid Renders as Johnny mentioned but still not quite photo-realistic from what I have seen Unreal engine is out there too , but last time I looked it was harder to get files out of Chief for it...though that may have changed? M.
  8. "Crazy / Berserk" Terrain is usually an indicator of this as Mark has suggested........... DO NOT let Elevation Regions , Lines, etc touch or cross each other at all.... and I rarely use Elevation Points , they seem to make the "Crazy" worse Like Scott and Glenn I also stay away from Chief's Terrain Retaining Walls and just use Foundation Walls with a Terrain Break instead. M.
  9. This is a much requested feature for Chief and it was mentioned this week in another thread by Dermot, one of the Developers, that Chief has it on their ToDo List, being it is a common practice these days and also how I do all mine now, but it was still being worked on. Search the Forum for Fascia Mounted Railing you will find a few Threads going back 4-5 years at least i'd say.....including mine M.
  10. I still use the old polyline Solid method for many Trey (Tray) Ceilings as Chief's new (x12) Trey Ceiling Tool does NOT play well with Invisible Walls ( Room Dividers ) eg between a Kitchen and Family Room Area. Chief has Updated (Feb.2020) the the KB Article (KB201) on Trey Ceilings and no longer mentions the Old method ...but basically it is just a P.Solid with a Hole cut in it for the Trey , here is the Old PDF: Ceiling_Creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-polyline-solids.pdf
  11. Thanks for the thanks, but you do realize your answer doesn't help the next person with the same question who finds this post right ? M.
  12. If you have old Plans you may need the Ver. X8 Viewer to convert them , ie Plans with .pl1, .pl2 etc extensions. this Tutorial should help, click on the Green link on the webpage this link takes you too, to get the V.8 Veiwer if you need it : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00279/opening-legacy-files.html PS there are Free Layout templates pre-made in the Templates Folder , just delete the Chief Logo and name and insert your own. Mick.
  13. Search on the Forum for a Garden Window......I am sure I have seen posts on this before and thought at one point the Andersen Library had one ? M.
  14. And I'll throw the Asus one in my Sig. into the mix as well if looking at 17" with the 10875H. Not sure on availability right now though on the G732-LWS 17" ( 1/2lb heavier than the 15" version but price was the same at one point ) Last years 2019 model may also be still available and cost less in case you can't see my Sig. LAPTOPASUS ROG Strix G732LWS, Windows 10 Pro on a 17.3" 300Hz 1920x1080 FHD Panel, and an Intel Core i7-10875H, 8GB RTX 2070, 16GB DDR4, 1TB Intel 660p NVME Mick.
  15. Thanks Mick! Very concisely said here. It was not I ......... that is Michael's Post, all credit to Him, it was posted earlier in the thread.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/28737-best-practice-use-of-paint-spray-tool/?do=findComment&comment=229276 M.
  16. I was thinking about the ability to save them to the library etc for later use, but that method works too, as would the use of rafter tails I think, since they are really Rafters. Mick.
  17. If just changing the Color of say the siding yes but if you change it to Brick , you'd have a 1/2 thick brick layer this way , since the definition was not changed and possibly wall alignment issues stemming from the thickness difference. It is so easy to copy a wall definition in Chief - rename it - then change or add a new outer layer it's a no brainer for me.... and much easier than Wall coverings if it's the whole wall. *Just don't add 0" thick paint layers to interior Walls ( like chief does on Ceilings) as Chief only wraps the outer layer around Corners leaving exposed framing in some cases eg at 1/2 walls etc. M.
  18. Did you see this thread started by Gene after you posted yours? https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/28737-best-practice-use-of-paint-spray-tool/
  19. I learnt long ago not to use it for Exterior Walls ( thanks Forum !) and now advise Client's to make a Save-As > Client Meeting Plan , so they can go crazy if they need to in front of the Client with the Paint Can, and then transfer the final selections back to the Working Plan correctly later.
  20. Your trusses aren't really Trusses, ( in a Chief Sense) so probably best to delete those 6 Rafters and make them from P.Solids so you can trim the rafter Tails to match the the 2x10 rafters. they can be copied to other locations or even converted to a symbol and saved to the library as well for reuse. Not sure why you aren't using the autobuild Roof option and have the roof turned on in the room then the rafters will sit directly on the Beams automatically ( set Room height same as top of Beam height) ( the notch is controlled by the Trim to Soffit setting and subfascia height set eg 2x6 or whatever is set in the Roof DBX)
  21. That's Chief's default Reference Display ...have a read about it in the Manual and leasrn how to Change what it "sees" or the Colour used etc. F9 will toggle it On or Off as will the approx 11th icon on the RH side Toolbar that looks like 3 pages one over the other
  22. It will install beside X9 ( so to speak) no need to un-install x9 both can be still used.... you may want to install x12 "clean" though with no migration .....at least at 1st so you "see" all the new features like Saved plan Views ( Dropdown) etc as x9 toolbars were different. Old templates etc also won't have Saved Plan Views though they can now be imported if needed. M.
  23. No ........change it in the Wall Definition so it becomes the DEFAULT ( Walltype Tab>Define) Then the Material Tab will show Default: xxxxx xxxxxxx If you don't see the word default it's almost a guarantee you spray canned it or used the Material Tab directly instead... as noted by Michael previously,,,,,
  24. AFAIAA Chief cannot produce cutlists for Cabinet Shops easily (whether they use CNC or not) though Custom Macros can likely do it. Most use programs like E-Cabinet ..see this old thread here :
  25. The one in my Sig. is about 3 months old and will fit your budget currently --- I see it on sale several places , though Asus themselves have a holiday bundle for an extra $100 if you also want the backpack and some other "swag", though it maybe sold out currently. but Bestbuy Amazon etc still have the laptop available though. https://store.asus.com/us/item/202011AM190000028 Just watch out for reviews online , most are for the much higher End i9 CPU with a 2080 Super ( $3200.00) BestBuy.com Link M.
