Hmm... Actually I've done the same tech. without issues in X13. It works fine on other walls, but when the door is introduced it causes the issue. Also wall caps can be used as 'face applied' items or full wall split. This is a face applied molding.
-
You could find a PNG file and import the plants yourself. It works much like the material importer.
-
Has anyone else experienced an issue with the wall cap on a pony wall? Nothing I do allows it to continue down the wall past the door. Any suggestions outside of just drawing it manually w/ a molding? TIA. *I have a ticket into Chief about this as well.

Dang. I tried all this in my set, but it wouldn't work. Doing it in a new set it did, so I wonder if my plan is screwed up. Thanks for the video!

I just realized the 1000 sample cap seem to matter as it's just a way to stop the raytrace at a certain number. My default is to not cap it and let it run for a long as I feel necessary.

It's true. I was asking about floor framing... I'm familiar with the joist direction tool, but It doesn't appear to allow me to build one room with 2x12s lets say and the rest of the home as 2x10s. It seems to be a global attribute. Instead what I did was deleted the framing from the room and drew them in custom myself.
-
Ah! Good to know. I'm going to have to look into the cap live samples then. I have always just left it at 1000 assuming that was a good default. Any idea how it works?

Hey experts. I've been doing a lot more PBRs as of late and am working to tweak my settings to get the perfect view using only X13/X14. Right now I always adjust the sun intensity to 50000 Lux or midday sun and adjust it's angle to bring some drama into my render. My Current interior settings are as follows (Haven't mastered Exterior yet - Tips Welcome) : Camera Exposure: .5 Refraction 1,000 Daytime Intensity: 500 Hue: 0.0 Saturation: 5.0 Brightness: 10.0 Chief's guru's go a bit higher on the saturation and Brightness, but it's a bit too much for my liking.
-
@BillsburgChief I get frustrated by it too. They never seen to work for me when I try to do them as an interior feature. If I'm working on a Deck they seem to work fine...
-
I need to show one room with a different O.C. spacing than the others. Typical for the home is 16" O.C, but one room in particular needs 12" O.C. I've only been able to find the 'global' option to change the framing parameters. Am I over looking something or do I need to draw this room's framing 'custom' T.I.A.

Freestanding Deck butt up against a home (Auto build?)
DeLayDesign replied to DeLayDesign's topic in General Q & A
Thanks! That's what I was hoping to avoid, but was doing all along. It would be nice for Chief to add this function to the deck. Just a check box that tells chief to build it like it's not against a wall. Ah well. Thanks again. -
Hey all! I have a client who needs to represent a deck as a freestanding structure but is butt up against the existing home. No matter what I do I can't get chief to understand what I want done so it will place the footing correctly. Anyone have tips on how to accomplish this? TIA

I took a more drastic approach. I uninstalled Chief 23.4.0.12(the newest update) and re-installed the previous version (23.3.0.81)... and all the issues I had went away. I now have zero lag! I have informed Chief about the issue. I think they may need to issue a patch, but I'm going to stick to 23.3.0.81 until they can confirm the issue is resolved.
-
... development - I think it's an 'arched' wall I have in the plans. When I deleted the arched wall the plan seems to not lag as long. I still get about 5 seconds worth of lag, but not anywhere near the 20-40 seconds I was with the wall in there... Coincidence?
-
whenever I enter a 3D view in this plan or adjust something this plan, Chief goes into Not responding...
-
It just doesn't make sense. I was working on the plans for about two hours, then suddenly the issue started. I've drawn 10,000+ sq. ft. homes without this issue in the past... this house isn't anywhere near that size and isn't as complex, so what the heck is going on!? God I hope Chief has the answer.
-
I've updated my chief to the latest verson. My Geforce RTX 3080 is up to date, but for some reason in this one drawing anytime I do anything to the drawing in 3D I get lag! No matter what mode I'm in. It will process for 20-30 seconds at a time and sometimes longer. I've reached out to Chief to see what the issue might be, but does anyone have any recommendations. I promise I don't have anything crazy in the plans or a lot of materials. It's so frustrating!

This client wants to see and be able to move around their home which is almost 10K sq. ft. plus their plat to make sure their new addition doesn't interfere with some elements on the property they want to keep. Any thoughts how how I might accomplish this? Right now the 3D view is saying my plans are 348 MB so trying to bring it down to 50 is going to be impossible.
-
According to Chief your file has to be less than 50 MB; This file is far more than that.

Hey dskogg, You should be able to access your Chief account and download whatever version you need of the catalog again. Do you have access to the catalogs?

Hey Users! I'm familiar with the work around of creating a box and adjusting it's shape and filing it with a transparent fill to create some articulation on an elevation or cross section in order to show things in the background lighter... or utilizing the shadows to help create the feel of distance between near and far objects; but does anyone know if there is a proper way to do it... easily? Is this a feature Chief can help us get!? TIA.
-
Yep. I got notified, but I'm bummed they didn't solve the issue with mulled interior doors w/ windows above them.
-
Hey All! I've used Chief for 13 years and in all that time I've never had to use the 3D viewer. However a client would like to. Their property is enormous. The home is already huge, and they want to add additional spaces to it. I follow the tutorials on exporting the model for 3D viewer, but I am getting an error message when I try to open it saying there isn't enough memory? I've contacted Chief about it, but does anyone know if there is a work around? TIA Adam.

OK. Ignore this. I found the settings (THE VERY FIRST THING in defaults)... Carry on.
-
I've managed to sort out the settings I prefer for my physics based renderings and I'd love to save the perimeters as a default so whenever I go to this specific rendering technic I don't have to do the set up every time. Does anyone know how to save my changes to the camera in my template? I know I can change my default but that appears to change the 'full cameras default' so whenever I do a full camera it always starts up as Physics based, but doesn't keep any of the lighting or technical options I've adjusted. TIA everyone.
