  1. It is fairly accurate on exterior dimensions but as I mentioned above it is the best that I have found for Roof slopes/sizes, etc. It is a checkpoint to the matterport interior and I always ask for a couple of key exterior dimensions as well.
  2. That is not an algorithm it is a low paid draftsman in another country going through the scan and measuring and drafting the floor plan.... If you are going to use a scanning service which I use all the time I highly recommend Matterport (with a professional matterport camera not a lidar phone camera) but in addition get a hover.to exterior scan, lots of pictures and some key exterior measurements (overall is helpful.) Get the raw scan itself and trace over a screen grab and draw out then go room by room inside the scan checking dimensions and placement. Hover will give you exterior dimensions and is pretty accurate with the roof. In most cases that will get you within remodel accuracy zone.
  3. I do it all the time. I use different levels for different rooms to aid in separating them but make them inside of a fake house. For something like this I would use ceiling planes which doesn't matter if it's not following the roof lines as long as there is room.
  4. AND the item you want in color needs to have its color set to follow layer color and not be a “custom color”.
  5. 1. Draw a wall and set it as invisible below it will use the same wall above. 3. Yes see 1 above.
  6. It works if you use the right color. That is a mix of both colors. I used a simple gray color over the log siding (will work the same with cedar (I have done it.)
  7. Doesn't really help you in this case but there are some windows in the core catalog from olden days.
  8. Maybe this will help? Pay attention to the tool that is selected in my edit bar there and see if it helps and answers your question. To help you understand try looking up Material Painting tools in the help file.
  9. Nope sorry you are wrong. This is the proper place for this question. Sorry @solver, it is directly regarding a best practices question with chief architect. Not asking about what the best service for getting proper as builts but what services can be used and “imported” into Chief specifically.
  10. Sorry Eric I tend to disagree here. Yes it’s great to have his signature filled out and I agree on that point 100%…. However as to where this should be I do disagree with you. The OP is asking specifically for ones that import into Chief not just services who offer as built dimensions/scans.
  11. Are you offering to pay someone to find the design criteria for this job? If not this is not the right forum for this request. Btw the AHJ for that specific site is always a great location to start.
  12. You will have to talk to chief architect sales.
  13. Or open below, or remove the floor in this room option.
  14. Looks like you used the apply materials (spray can) and made it an invisible material such as "Insulation Gap, or Opening No Material). Show the materials panel of that dbx to see if that is the case.
  15. Template plan. Chief has global preferences which is for system preferences Separate are Plan specific settings that you save in a template plan to begin each job with.
  16. Or right click on an empty part of the toolbars and change the configuration there.
  17. I am sorry but you are using software from 6 years ago. I would venture to say since at least X10 and most likely before that due to my skill set improving with the use of the software that there has not been a regular basis need for editing plot lines. I have found without exception that 99.9% of the times those errant lines are on there is because the model is not accurate or built how chief is designed to work. It can be done. I do probably a good hundred plan sets a year from large full customs, additions, kitchen and bath design, etc. I cannot even remember last time I have had to use the edit plot lines tool.
  18. This is a contradictory statement. I have maybe one job in a year where I may need to cover an errant line or use the layout remove plot line tool. That is honestly being generous as I really can’t remember the last time.. accurate model will not have those lines.
  19. Open to below room outside of the invisible railing with the floor set to the depth you want the posts to go below the adjacent floor (12" lower in this example). You have to set your newel height to the different height as well.
  20. Railing tool alone, invisible, just posts, just glass all railings. 5 minutes so not exactly what he is looking for but it can be done.
  21. I disagree. I think three railings or two and an invisible wall would do this just fine…. Just need to set two of them as partition. One for the newells and one for the glass custom panel.
  22. Next time just add it to the cabinet and select 50% open and you can show open and closed and have the specs built in.
  23. Setup a Layer set for your 3d view that turns off the roof. Then you can change what level you are on as well. in X11 at least and it may even be available in X10 (I just cant remember) there is an OOB Layer set and camera view that will allow a "doll-house" view which you are describing. It is called the "perspective floor overview" camera.
