  1. @ChiefuserMathews I'd say it has something to do with the "auto" bay window tool. When I constructed a manual bay right next to the "auto" bay it built the foundation perfectly. I experimented making the auto bay wider and deeper..but, it still constructed the foundation in the same manner. The auto bay/box/bow window tools are, to be kind, unreliable and I avoid using them.
  2. @Kaemingk I use an iMac...with a Logitech M510 mouse. I don't have this problem...but, I've been using this combo probably 5 years...so, not sure I remember if I had to change anything. Are you using the Apple Magic Mouse? Can you program the mouse to work differently when using a piece of software like Chief. The logitech I use has a small program that allows me to customize my mouse with Chief...so, I've programed the side buttons to activate different menu items in Chief...and also when I push down on my scroll wheel.
  3. @mgianzero Auto Roof returns...really only work on full gable end walls. See screen clip below taken from the Chief X12 Manual. The way you did it is the way it has to be done.
  4. @solver gave you the answer...on your reference layerset...select "framing, post" and "footings, post" and turn them on. Assign each the line style and weight you prefer. Then when you are on that level, hit the F9 key to turn on your ref set. You should see the post and the footing...or, just turn on the footing. You can create a "saved plan view" for your foundation level that uses it's own ref set. You can set it in the SPV so the ref set always is on.
  5. Dermot gave you a good tip...here is the section from the manual. You should have the manual open all the time...the program is massive and no one can remember every little icon and method. The manual is a godsend...to say the very least.
  6. @RRFDesign - Thanks...glad it was helpful.
  7. I made this video about lintels using X11...but, it's all the same in X12. Hope it helps you out...
  8. In this video I will show you how to quickly create a new "Saved Plan View". I'm using the out of the box Chief "residential plan.plan" template...which comes pre-loaded with some plan views. Hope it helps...and thanks for watching!
  9. This video should help get you on your way...
  10. @stevenyhof - if you could create a "simple" view you could try using the surface delete tool, save the camera. But - it's a time consuming process on a large complex view.
  11. @cajunland - You should build and new "blank" floor. Chief does not like it when you try to construct rooms on an attic floor. I always have at least one floor more than I need in most every plan.
  12. Just wondering...is this normal behavior for Chief. In the attached plan I've drawn a simple post to beam railing wall. The roof overhang is sloped with a plumb cut gutter board. Why does the sloped piece of soffit pierce through the railing wall beam? Maybe this has always been the case...or, maybe I've got a setting screwed up? Here is a sample plan: Railing Wall Ex-1.plan
  13. @stevenyhof For your “roof plan view” turn on “main layer only” in the roof plan layerset. This way your roof plane will only find the main layer...and you won’t be aligning the roof baseline above the siding surface.
  14. @cajunland - Here's one Chief Video...there are others on their YouTube page...
  15. Do you need a little help with a plan or maybe some in-depth targeted Chief training...I can help! Using ZOOM I can share my screen...or see your screen and advise you how to achieve things in Chief. It's easy...and you will learn quickly. Over 40 years in the residential design/construction business. If you need to learn how to set up rooms, floors, plan views, annotation sets, layer sets, wall types, roof design, foundations...I can help. Drop me an email at; steve@mychiefskills.com Website: www.mychiefskills.com
  16. Kevin - you don't have "invisible walls" turned on in your camera view layerset...
  17. Yep...it's the way you had the wall definition for the 13.5" thick wall.
  18. @cajunland - attached is a fix. I made two of the hips 10/12...the other 8/12. This allows the ridge to get longer. You have a multitude of issues that I fixed... - Changed all the porch walls to use the same type "Deck/Railing Fence". This type is a single layer...but the same width as your main walls. - Changed your brick walls...I didn't see a need for a pony wall...maybe I missed something? But...changed brick walls to use "Brick-6" wall type. - I used a roof polyline baseline...and aligned all right over main layer and made sure they were all the correct pitch. - I opened each exterior wall and on the roof tab changed the pitch to either 8/12 or 10/12 as required. - When I built roof I told chief to "Ignore Top, 2nd floor" The roof rafters on the plan you attached were not seated directly on top of the walls. Maybe you built them manually? Also...the roof baselines were out over the brick in some places...and aligned with the main layer in other places. I have a YouTube page with many videos...you might check it out. (see my signature) Fixed plan attached: AS-BUILTCURRENTv5.0roof - Nestor Fix1.plan
  19. Building on the videos Eric (Solver) made recently...I did this video to show how you can construct a tapered paneled column in plan view, using p-solids and a molding polyline. It's a fast method...and the best part is you don't have to use a 3D molding polyline. Check it out....
