  1. Bob, nice job! Just finishing an addition in woods of Pennsylvania and wonder about source of chandelier - would fit perfectly in current project. Thanks in advance for info. Doug
  2. What version of X8 are you using? When I try to open .plan file, Chief tells me I am running an old version of X8 - but I have the latest version. Doug
  3. Joe, is there anyway to use a symbol in a plan of say a garage and then be able to show "walls", "doors" etc. All I get is the roof in plan view but full 3d image in standard view??
  4. Flickinger Project.plan This should help. Check your eaves - they are all a little different.
  5. Hi Doug Not sure what you are looking for but here is my feeble attempt. Doug Glass stair house.plan
  6. Mike, Not sure if this will help but, change material to "Stainless Steel" as found in "Bonus catalogs" - Kitchen styles - international contemporary - materials - stainless steel. Doug
  7. Steve, That happened to me. In my case, the on-board graphics card in the HP laptop was being used by CA, not the Nvidia card. When I switched to the Nvidia card, everything was fine. I think I did that by accessing the Nvidia control panel and checking use for Chief Architect. Been a while - hope this helps. Doug
  8. mecacarl I am not sure what you mean but open 3dconnexion home, go to settings then to advanced settings. Here you can change almost any function and even reverse directions.
  9. Yes, .skp files work with CA and 3d Warehouse is great source. Careful of some 3d files as they can be BIG.
  10. Rod, Will. I had to enable "3d viewing" in Adobe in order to see the model. Under "Edit" go to "Preferences", "3d" - enable 3d option.
  11. That makes no sense. Should be in "materials". My two cents
  12. Had the same problem here and yes, it was a video card problem. When I upgraded to Windows 10, it set my video card to the on-board card in my laptop, not to the Nividia Card. Changed that setting and all ok.

If you are using Windows, check to make sure Chief is using the correct graphics card. I had that problem when I switched to windows 10. I have a laptop and windows 10 reverted back to the onboard intel graphics card to save battery power. Right click on desktop to get to the graphics settings and set quality to max and that Chief is designated as using the right card. This is all assuming that you have an external graphics card.
  14. Terry and others The 3dconnection mouse works like a champ in X8. Takes a bit of time to get used to it. See choice in Preferences, Render for 3d mouse. Also, seems as if walk-throughs have been improved. So far, no major problems with X8. I love it.
  15. I use a "." but think this is a bug or an oversight and should be fixed. Also note that plain text is automatically set to 75% spacing where as rich text is set to 100% by default.
  16. Larry, I use a Canon ix6520 which I bought for about $119 on sale 3 years ago. Prints color and 11x17. Now not available but the Canon ix6820 is the replacement and lists for $136 on line. I do most of my work using it and use print house for larger pages. Send to them by e-mail using PDF. Picture quality is good enough for color renderings and presentations using photo paper.
  17. Hi ACAD (me too since Version 2.5) To get the model correct, in plan (1st floor), widen the step over the basement stair to cover the dividing wall. Take a look with a camera view. You should now have an open stairway but with a railing blocking landings. Select the landing railing you want to eliminate. Open DBX and check "eliminate railing on this edge". From a CAD viewpoint in the plan view, I usually turn off "stairs...." layers and make my own layer "Stairs CAD" and using cad lines, draw what I want on the plan view with break lines, up and down arrows, etc. I think this is what you want. BTW, I know you miss the snow there in Florida, I have some snow here we can send if you want! Doug
  18. Great tip Wendy - that has been driving me bonkers over the years.
  19. Hi Roz, I usually just add some lattice from the library, modify to fit the space. But, no, to my knowledge there is no specific command that automatically adds "skirting". 73
  20. Randy, should have pointed you to how to do it. Scroll down from here until you see "More Reply Options" and follow directions. Make sure the file is closed before you try to post it.
  21. Randy, Welcome to the forum. However, to get best results, please post the plan along with your question.
  22. Looks good. If plants are 3d, turn a couple and increase/decrease size. Also, add some furniture inside as well as some window treatments. Size of lights by garage a bit large. Maybe add a fence in the distance to mask break between backdrop and terrain. Perhaps, a stone walk and another material for the drive. Other ideas???
