Thanks Doug. That's a bummer. No way around it?

Levis - must be MAC cause I've tried it several times and that option is not available. Now, why is that it is for MAC and not Windows?? Oh, CA, why don't we have that???

Chris - can't you just use an existing material and adjust the scale? One other thing might be to make a polyline solid 3'x3'. Export it out as a jpg. In a photo program you can do a bevel on the edge to create a recess to look like the photo you posted and then bring it bake in and make a material from it. My best 2 thoughts for now.

Yet another government employee dipping into the private sector in their "spare time". And because of the generous benefit package we provide, can afford to undercut the market. Sorry - but that is how I see it. Join the list of mail men, firemen, etc that I KNOW of who do that. You say it's a free world? Not when I have to pay for it! Also sounds like a conflict of interest to be able to inspect and design at the same time. My .02.

LevisL - I do not see anywhere in chief that you have options for video format. I only see avi. WHere is the option for other formats?

pretty cool!

Val - that does not sound good. The only thing that I can think of is that the fan is kicking on to cool down your computer. Ray tracing is all CPU work. I am not a computer guru so your specs don't mean anything to me. IS it a lap top or a desk top. My last lap top used to blow up when I ray traced and tried to do too much else. It just crashed. In any event that is not normal. re: passes - most feel they can do quite well with 10 passes and exteriors are usually easier than interiors INHO. Having a tree and the sun with some shadows gives a more interesting effect.

Nice job GLS, whoever and wherever you are.

It can be done anywhere from easily to very difficult depending on the specifics of the tile . 12x12's area easy. Diamond 12x12 easy. Listellos easy to very difficult. If you have one in chief that you want to use it's easy. IF you want another one not in chief it can be much more difficult if not impossible. For my own bathroom I took pictures of the tile boards at the tile store and converted them into materials. I don't think you will be doing that for a client. One thing that is important to know is that if you want to do two different layouts with the same tile (running bond and diagonal for instance) make a copy of the tile and change it's name and then rotate the texture and pattern. THe one you are showing may be a bit harder because most of the tile are straight bond not 1/2 offset lick a brick pattern but I think X6 has a few.

Interior Window Sill Does Not Extend To Window
Dennis_Gavin replied to dshall's topic in General Q & A
Ah HA - Scott must be Beta testing X7. -
One key in making a smooth arch like that is to increase the number of line segments before converting to a polyline solid.

Very nice!

using the rainbow icon click on the floor, in the dbx go to properties and change from polished to reflective. You can probably just go with the default setting for reflective. THe polished affect can be very disappointing in many circumstances. I only occasionally use it for furniture.
-
Change the floors from polished to reflective at about 25%.

Robert - OK thanks. Joe, I think you need SU Pro for that no?

Gary - if you could share those symbols when created it would be much appreciated!

3D Models: Use, Organization, Libraries
Dennis_Gavin replied to jimmyp's topic in Symbols and Content
Jimmy - dxf is not necessarily preferred but as I said those with older versions can't import 3ds so for them it is preferred. Those of us with X6 are happy with 3dss. Personally I am not sure of the benefit of one over the other. Not sure what you mean by plan view. Symbols have 2d blocks that generate from the symbol itself. -
Creating Horizontal Eaves For Patio/porch Areas
Dennis_Gavin replied to ARBDESIGN's topic in General Q & A
Eaves (soffits) are controlled in the build roof dialogue box. There is a check box for boxed eaves to flatten them out. As far as a porch roof goes that depends on whether it has it's own roof or if the roof starts on a beam and then continues over the main house. Need more info/detail for that. How about putting info into your profile with your name and version you are using? -
3D Models: Use, Organization, Libraries
Dennis_Gavin replied to jimmyp's topic in Symbols and Content
Welcome back, DAE works for newer users but those who don't have the latest version would still benefit from dwg, dxf. I think most users use 3D wharehouse on an as needed basis. Also, symbols are usually post to the symbols and content forum. New symbols are always welcome. -
Rich - can't resist, Good Move! I won't post my story because I can't relate it to chief except that some of the money I earn from using Chief goes into a bank.
-
Glad I don't work there!
-
I did not look for them. Just thought you might find one/some there. You may have to make one from scratch.
-
Rich - current generation doesn't recognize that either! ;o)

Try Trimble 3D wharehouse.
