Why Are Two Rooms Showing Up As The Same Room?
Dennis_Gavin replied to dbkb0227's topic in General Q & A
I think it's because the moon is in it's 7th house and Jupiter is aligned with Mars.......just saying, could be...... -
It's a shame to have to do all these work arounds. If Chief doesn't do a big improvement is stairs for the next release there are going to be many ticked off users!
-
The problem there is that you cannot get a middle newel unless you manually place it and then the balusters are not spaced correctly. Don't know why there is no option for newel spacing on ramps????

Question About Soffits And Tji Roof Framing (Video)
Dennis_Gavin replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Got me. I see what you are saying. Some confusion with the combination of I rafters and sistered joists? -
I did this with invisible walls and set the stairs to winders and then in another plan had the railing wall follow the stairs and turned off the stairs and exported the symbol. Is this the best method to accomplish a raised railing for deck stairs?

Very, very nice!

Todd - The levels are something you have to play with based on your scene but I think the ambient up to about 70% -80% with no other lights on unless you have a dark area. I would adjust the contrast afterwards just using the standard setting during the RT. Usually not a big adjustment, just tweaking.

OK, thanks Jim & Joe. Fortunately I don't have any spiral stairs to do but was curious for the future. -

Jim - your railing rises nice and smoothly but the ones in the videos for the 360 + are segmented. What is the difference? I guess I will actually have to play with it to find out. -
Greg - your video is pretty smooth. I think mine always seems to have some jerkiness in them. IS this 100% Chief? IF so what settings are you using?

This has been a very interesting thread. What a resource CT is thanks to some very generous people. Next challenge: How do you get a smooth railing? -
overall nice job. White kitchens are tough in Chief. I tend to have specular set to 0 in properties for the white cabinet and use no photons as well. I think you need to adjust the contrast brightness some to tone down the glare effect. You might even consider turning off all lights except the sun and put a couple of 3D lights in the scene. Maybe turn up ambient light in the 3D tab. IT will look too bright in standard render but will tone down in ray trace. It really is a bit of an art from getting things right, especially with white cabinets. IF you do turn of the recessed lights you can set their glass lens to about 80% emissive for effect.

Raul - Alan is correct. My approach will work if you are just using cabinets with a flat top not slanting as in your drawing.
-
Draw a wall next to stairs and drag under the stairs so it follows the stairs. Insert doorways or pass through and adjust for no casing and desired width. duplicate as needed. install cabinets into openings.
-
yeah, those could work. However - what I thought I might need these for turns out to not be the case.. Thanks.

how about setting a wall to no locate? I know there is a way. Just that my memory is worthless.
