    As you can probably tell by now I have been amusing myself by having a play with tessellations and applying them as materials. I really like the way this particular one wraps the corners of the building. I can see this as a mosaic in Morocco or perhaps Santorini.

    You talking to me Mick? I didn't open any of the plans, I just referred to the PDF Steve supplied in the post previous to mine and used that roof pitch and the 3 windows that were shown. Steve, sorry I couldn't get back sooner. It looks like you are getting it under control. I still like my approach which is similar to Bill's. Draw the bump out as a skinny little room and adjust the floor height of the room to suit your purpose. Punch a hole in the interior section of the wall with a pass thru window. I left the room as unspecified. You can now add whatever window configuration you like as well as control the other materials in the room. The floor material becomes the material on the top surface of the bump out ledge/shelf. All in all it gives a nice clean look without any annoying and unwanted artifacts.

    Here is my take loosely based on your PDF image. I just built the boxed window as a room attached to the side of the wall. That way you can add whatever window configuration you like.

    Alan, one way is through Photobucket. If you don't mind navigating through some adds and popups the free version will let you upload your images to your own "bucket". From there you can select the image and the following screen will let you create links to the image. For the forum I use the bottom one. Just click on it and it will copy the link, then when in the forum you hit the Paste Icon and the link is pasted into your post (the image won't show until you hit preview post or add reply buttons).

    Well said Yusuf. I too have been inspired by resourceful users such as Bill and yourself. The way I see it there are grinders like Edison and there are visionaries like Tesla. I think the same is true of Chief users. I often think the people who come on here and bemoan the perceived shortcomings of the software would be better served by applying the same zeal to finding creative approaches to solving their problems. Then when the existing bugs do get ironed out they will be perfectly positioned to get the most out of the program. I gave you a gold star for that post.

    Sounds to me like you are being penny wise and pound foolish. If using Chief is costing you so much you should just bite the bullet and purchase that "other CAD program" that you seem to think will solve all your problems.

    So.... a couple of cheesy 3D Warehouse birds didn't do it for anybody (why am I constantly disappointed with their content?). I thought the Chief generated power lines were pretty effective. Well then, try this one on for size. A tribute to the Monty Python boys that I call "The doors are always open at the Department of Redundancy Department.".

    If you notice you can upgrade the Asus to a SSD for $70. It's only 256GB but if you can live with that it's well worth it.

    Your image is too small to see what's going on but I will take a stab at it for you. I'm not sure what software version you are using. It looks more like HD and not Chief. Here is what might work for you. Check the "By Layer" box for line weight for main layers #4 & #5.

    I should live so long. No, I did an image search for cityscapes to use as a background and found that image. It wasn't what I was originally looking for but I thought it was cool and it had approximately the right perspective to use for the shot. I've got no idea how the original was made. Keith, that's why I call it "watch your step". Besides there is no way for the inspector to get up there to check for handrails. Actually I've been experimenting with constructing some handrails but with the geometry of the situation I don't know if I can pull it off.

    Personally I don't know what the moaning and groaning about the stairs tool is all about. I don't see anything wrong with the stairs. Here is an offering from my impossible construction series of images I like to call "Watch Your Step". This is a 100% genuine non-edited, non-retouched, non-exported for rework Chief generated image.

    I found the fittings on 3D Warehouse under pipe fittings. They had several sizes and included alignment marks which they claimed would facilitate making the connections. It all looked good on paper but when I imported the symbols they wouldn't perform as advertised. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears and lots of tweaking X, Y & Z coordinates to line things up. Luckily I only had to do one branch and then mirror it to the other side or I might still be pecking away. I don't know what the deal with 3D Warehouse is. Everybody says go there and every time I do I have some type of problem with the imported symbols. I think it's about time I take the bull by the horns and put some serious study into rolling my own.

    There is one that is about as simple and generic as you can get in the Library Browser. Of course you will have to get Glenn to show you how to locate it because I am still clueless.

    You need to use a different Codec for walkthrough recordings. The ones Chief supplied OOB didn't work for me either. XVID is a good one. Google it and download it (it's free) and then select it in the Codec Options section in Preferences.

    Well, I don't know if this thread is closed or not, but I will cast my vote for a decent search feature for the Library Browser. Seriously, I just did a search for a mailbox. How hard can that be? You can enter any combination of the word, upper case or lower case, singular or plural, hyphenated or two word and you will get the same result. Zip, Zilch, Zero, Nada. You can enter simply an "M" and scroll thru the dozens of items listed but you won't find a mailbox. In fact after you enter the first three letters you will get no results to scroll thru at all. Yet they are there. Maybe the question should be just what can you find using the search feature?
