  1. Not even a Tiparillo? Hey, I was just whipping up a concept sketch based on the roof plane configuration BeeoHat posted from SletchUp. I get what you are doing by refining the concept and positioning the hip rafters over appropriate structural members. However, I am not sold on the idea that the "doglegs" in the hips and valleys in your plan roof are present in the "as built" structure. I could be wrong as the only pic is murky at best but my guess is that all the hips and valleys are straight from ridges to eaves as in the OP's sketch. That's why I just sort of split the difference as to where the hip rafters would cross the upper railing beams and let the roof overhangs fall where they may. No big deal, I enjoyed the vids.

  3. Agreed Ron, I soured on the whole concept when I was slammed with a negative point when I posted the quote you just referenced. I didn't even take a position on the issue, just asked how the process would work. Initially you could see who gave you points, now they have changed it so you can't. For my money I think they should just do away with the whole negative reputation point thing. If we want to have some fun and throw around positive points I'm OK with that but I think it should be up to the forum monitors to deal with the negative stuff.
  4. Just roll your mouse over anybody's "handle" and you can see how many Rep. Points they have.
  5. Has anybody else noticed that you can no longer see who left reputation points by clicking on the reputation count button in the bottom right hand corner by the vote up and vote down buttons. Is this an official change of position by CA or some sort of temporary technical glitch?
  6. Hey TJ, hair loss can be a serious issue. I massaged your garage plan to clean up the roof planes and make the exterior resemble your pics. This should give you a good starting point. Garage-A.plan
  7. Hey Timmy, here's the deal. I was using soffits because I was working with Home Designer Pro. With CA its easier because you can use Polyline Solids for the upper walls. Start out by drawing Pony Walls where you want the glass to be. In the "Wall Specification" dbx go to the "Wall Types" tab and define the Lower Wall Type you want to use and set the height of the lower wall. For the upper wall type choose "Glass Shower". This will give you the lower wall with glass on top. To build the upper portions of the walls above the glass go to your plan view and draw a Rectangular Polyline over the Pony Walls. Convert the Polyline to a Polyline Solid and set the pertinent values in the "3D Box Specification" dbx. to match the length and thickness of the Pony Wall below and set a height for the upper Polyline Solid wall section. With a little tweaking you should be able to get the desired effect.
  8. What's better than a 90° Corner Window? How about four 90° Corner Windows. Here's a little concept that came about while exploring a HomeTalk thread about butt glazed corner windows.
  9. I've got nothing to add here. Just tired of seeing David's mug every time I log in.
  10. Why exactly is that? Why can't you draw a round room with the "Curved Wall" tool without resorting to what amounts to a work around? Is this where we are supposed to chime in and ask for a "Round Wall" tool with a dbx where you could control things like diameter and axes of reflection?
  11. I recently bought a DeWalt DW030P Laser Distance Measurer when I got tired of trying to use my trusty Stanley 25' PowerLock without anyone around to hold the other end of the tape. Great little unit accurate to 1/16". Easily calculate distance, area and volume. As with most of these units outdoor daytime distance measuring can be problematical but indoors it is great. Get one, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
  12. How many locomotives will you be storing? Oh, not that kind of roundhouse. Here's my round house.
  13. Man, you're all messed up. That's a different campaign. The "happier than _" series. The best one was happier than a camel on hump day. This one is the "15 minutes could save you 15% - Everybody knows that - Well did you know that _" series. Got it?
  14. Everybody knows that? Well..... did you know that the great pyramids were a mistake?
  15. You can use the "Adjust Material Definition" tool to redefine the properties of the siding and shingles to "Transparent" to reveal the layer beneath. You can use the "Break Wall" tool to select portions of the walls to be transparent. You can also change the appearance of individual roof planes.
  16. Rainman, check out this thread. You will find some info and Glenn's downspout there. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/404-roof-line/?hl=downspout#entry3470
  17. Not sure if this is what you mean, but you can change the email associated with your CA account by going to the "My Settings" link in your user profile. On the left side there is a link to change your email & password.
  18. I can't believe that rig doesn't have a SSD. If you have the bucks spring for the SSD. You won't be sorry. All you will get is noticeably faster boots and program launches, absolutely quiet operation and a "Windows Experience Index" that is pegged at the top of the charts at 7.9. By way of reference my Western Digital Velociraptor HDD which at the time of purchase held the speed crown for spinning media only garners a WEI of 5.9.
  19. What is a "shadow board" exactly? I'd have to say that it is very aptly named for something that's definition is so hard to nail down.
  20. Wow! Thanks for all the great info guys. Personally I find these kinds of threads that deal with methods of work much more instructive than posts that deal with individual problems or bugs. The old teach a man to fish deal. Not saying that there isn't valuable info to be gained in seeing solutions to someone's individual specific problems, but if I'm not having that problem it doesn't really affect me and I'll leave the bug chasing to the entomologists in the crowd. Glenn: Thanks so much for sharing your hot key list. As Bill mentioned it is a bit daunting but as you said your hot keys are way more intuitive than CA's default choices. If I am going to embark on learning a system of hot keys yours looks like a much better system to start with. The good thing is that it won't take me any time to un-learn CA's system as I was only using about a half a dozen of their hot keys. The notion of turning off the display of the toolbars made me think of a time when I inadvertently switched my video card resolution to a value that wasn't supported by my monitor. My screen became an unintelligible jumble. Somehow I was actually able to navigate out of the situation by clicking my mouse in the general area on the screen where I thought the appropriate command buttons would be. Bill: I'm with you in that the sheer size of the hot key list is rather overwhelming. Hopefully over time I can adapt to it. BTW, your dog apparently is smarter than mine. My little guy only has 2 modes; total relaxation or full blown enthusiasm. There is no graduated scale so no numbers are needed. Electromen: Very cool website. I should have known that they would have come up with something like that. Am I understanding the concept? You just plug the thing into any usb port and then you have an auxiliary programmable keypad? Lew: Now with the advent of the cell phone it is much more acceptable to be seen mumbling in public. Finally, I didn't realize what D.Scott was doing in his videos was calling out hot keys. I thought he was invoking some sort of mystical incantations. Thanks again guys
  21. The answer is: Ctrl+Alt+S It took me a while but I finally got around to creating a Hot Key List. Holy Cow! 130 default Hot Keys? And I can’t even remember to tie my shoes in the morning. I was going to print out a cheat sheet but the html file converts into 3 printed pages. Am I supposed to just man up and commit all 130 (+ any additional customizations) to memory? At some point doesn’t it become a tossup between finding the Hot Key and just executing the command? Back in the day of Lotus 123 and the like they used to have keyboard templates (probably still have them for all I know) that showed Hot Key locations. Does anybody use something like that? How do y’all handle the myriad of Hot Keys? The question is: What is the Hot Key for "Start Camera Spin"?
