Why does the simple act of changing from Standard to Vector view change the color of my roof planes? Edit: Sorry, brain fart here. It's been a while since I worked on this plan. Forgot that I had fooled around with different shingle colors using the adjust materials definition tool.

Oh ye of little faith. Where there's a will there's a way.

Thanks fellas, I don't care what everybody says about you, you guys rock. It's so much easier to play the dumb a$$ and ask for help than to do the research to find the answers.

What keeps the water from falling out of the lake?

I know that Einstein proved we can bend light but I sure can't. Any ideas, suggestions, approaches to achieving these kinds of effects? BTW, I have the dove covered. that was the easy part.

This was in this month's CA newsletter.

Here's my take on this. Is not an "as built" set of drawings as defined in the AIA standard exactly the same as a set of "measured" (exitsting) drawings? Since in most cases owners don't supply us with "as built" drawings of their houses (drawings of exactly how the house was built or last remodeled) we often have to go and measure the structure and prepare such drawings as a starting place. We are making "measured" (existing) drawings in lieu of having a set of "as built" drawings to work from. But would not both sets of plans be the same?

two shed roofs--can't build both at same time

Well then, it's only a matter of scale. -
two shed roofs--can't build both at same time
Rich_Winsor replied to ann0000's topic in General Q & A
Hi Ann, take a look at this plan. It was easier to draw a new building than to rework yours. In this plan both roofs have a 1 in 12 pitch. If that doesn't work for you just select the roof planes and change the pitch in the Roof Plane Specification DBX. The reason your back wall is misbehaving is because your roof planes don't extend far enough to reach outside of the walls. Hope this will get you on the right track. garage1a-rev.plan -
Can't speak to X5 options but here is what is available in X7.

Here's my quick take based on your PDF file. Is this what you are looking for?

Interesting, I guess my CPU is having a good day. I reran the ray trace using all the textures this time and it beat the previous (no Textures) version by a second.

I don't know of a single person who has updated to a SSD who would ever think of going back to "spinning disc" drives. Get the biggest SSD you can afford and you won't regret it.

In this case I would recommend a preemptive gripe.

Here's what I get with my 8 Intel Core i7-3770K CPU cores chugging along @ 3.50 GHz. Same deal as Larry. Missing a lot of textures. Edit: Oops, forgot that the export picture feature doesn't show the ray trace time. 10 passes - Ray Trace Time 3:11

This conversation has taken an interesting turn. Just who is the arbiter of good taste in design? Just who should be empowered to impose their will and taste upon everyone else? I have a sister who happens to live in one of the Eichler homes in an exclusively Eichler neighborhood that Richard references. I find it amusing that these tracts that were generally considered by the locals to be the lower quality houses in less desirable areas are now considered worthy of protection. I would venture to say that any new house (foreigner) built in one of these neighborhoods would stand out like a sore thumb by exposing the insipid Eichler's for what they are. Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky tacky, Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes all the same. There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one, And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same. A local gal penned this little ditty in the sixty's about just such a development. How ironic that these "little boxes" are now deem worthy of historical preservation.

Or depending on just how close you need the tile to match you could take an existing flooring sample from the Library Browser and adjust the Pattern and Texture using the Adjust Material Definition tool.

Wow! Time marches on. I hardly recognize that interface as the last version of AutoCAD for me was 2006 and I didn't use that version much because I didn't like the changes they made to the GUI from 2005.

Just a little idiosyncrasy of mine going back many moons to when I used to post on an AOL message board. Back then it was an active window size thing. Nowadays with the ever increasing size of the screen real estate I simply find it easier on my beady little eyes to read short lines of text as opposed to long strings which sprawl all the way across the monitor. And yes, I just hit enter to end the line at a length that is comfortable for me.

Yeah, migrating the data isn't really a problem. I've got old hard drives scattered around going back for years and I have every combination of patch cables necessary to hook any one of them up to a USB port so I can just copy my data to an external drive and then copy it back to my new drive. It's the operating systems that I am worried about. I'm pretty sure the dual boot setup messes with the Master Boot Record and I was wondering if the data migration utility has the capability to transfer the MBR to the new drive? As I initially said, I was just hoping that maybe someone had been down this road already and could vouch for the process. Guess I will have to cogitate on this one a while longer.

I just picked up a Samsung 850 EVO SSD to install in my back up rig. As a rule I prefer to reinstall my software when I upgrade my hard drive, but since its only a backup rig I thought I might give Samsung's data migration utility a try. My question revolves around the fact that the drive I'm replacing is configured in a dual boot setup so I can run both Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate. Does anybody have any first hand experience with such a migration? Will the utility handle such a situation?

I'm with Paul on this one. I was forced to go the hardware lock route because I use the program on desktop workstations in 2 locations. One has a blazing fast (65+Mbps) internet connection and the other has no internet access so the activate deactivate dance is useless to me. I think you should allow installation on 2 rigs (as many other software vendors do) and then if you want to do the activate/deactivate thing for any installations beyond the initial 2, fine and dandy.
