I never edit but can somewhat if I wanted to. The client gets what they get even a small error but a huge error, I would just re-do it. It only takes the time to do the video 3 , 4 minutes and done. To me its a better way of communicating then a walkthrough.

I use "Snagit" for screen capture videos, very simple and easy to do in less time, uses "MP4" format, everyone can view it. No walkthrough to set up. Just record your camera views. Your voice will also record to tell your client what you did and why.

looks to me like your roof plane edge is not straight, or maybe another roof plane in to close to the wall, it should be located to the exterior wall surface. Post the plan for an exact answer

I would try for Intel i7 processor and NVidia video card.

The extra features are very much needed b/c of all the custom details and models we need to draw. Not sure where you are from but here in California the building departments are brutal, framing is very important. Schedules need to include things that most of the country might not need now , but will in the future. we want these things.

Raytrace uses your CPU, not the video card GPU

I think it's your fan covering the CPU. They are usually automatic speed depending on how hard your CPU is working, nothing unusual there, its normal unless you need a new fan. when you do a raytrace, at least one core of your CPU will be running at 100 percent.

Couldn't you just set the stairs-fill to transparent to see under it, that's what I do.

You can change the main layer and where the floor builds to seperately

Did you also change the main layer of that wall to the invisible layer

I don't know but it works for me. I just check -no locate but keep no room def.

DJP I think the difference between yours and his ,is that he made a symbol and you used a window.

You can add an invisible layer to your upper wall definition to stop it at the lower wall.

No you don't need to check "No room def" if its a railing wall, are you using a p-line molding? Using a railing wall, you also have the center tool to use. There is a difference.

You can also just do a room molding p-line for the molding and remove all the automatic molding in that room

Todd Do you have your cad block mnagement set to purge automatically, lot of unwanted cad will also slow down Chief. Those old cad blocks will remain in the plan if not purged. There is a checkbox in the cad block management DBX.

I like the Alienware computers. a bit pricy but mine has lasted a long time now, with a few changeouts (video card and went from standard hard drive to an ssd.) plus they look cool.

Yes, Chief has said that large undo's will slow down the program in the past.

make the railing wall a "No locate " wall and slide in place

I noticed you have a 1gb video cards, that's the min. Chief recommends. Also you might try to adjust your video cards in the NVidia control panel, I know it helps me get a little faster.

Hi Jim welcome I personally just do single family residential and Chief is the perfect software for me. It does everything I need to create full working drawings complete with structural,and 3d renderings and raytraces. Some people here that come from AutoCAD aren't happy with the 2d drawing tools, but if you build your model correctly you really don't need much in the 2d tools area. IMO Chief is more than ok for 2d detailing. The idea behind Chief is really to eliminate 2d drawing of anything. You can just bring you details into Chief from AutoCAD and put them in your lib. Chief is a completely different way of thinking, and I love it. I would think if you do multi-family and high rise you might ask some here how that's working, and you might need a monster computer for that.
