  1. This is intended, when you print them they will be high def. again. It speeds the program up to show in a lower pix.
  2. Yes, it also helps b/c elevations are renders but no color, and 2d also would be faster. I'm getting a new computer and trying to decide what the specs should be and I think I will stick with Alienware this time again. It's going to run me a little over 3000 but has everything I need.
  3. I don't do much ray-tracing so the video card is much more important to me. Anyway I can do very nice crappy rays in 5 minutes. For me its all the video card, as I do con doc's every day.
  4. Try the Slab footing wall tool, when connected to form a room, it will create a slab automatically. I wouldn't use the slab tool for that purpose, you can't adjust the footings independently.
  5. Glen that method is just to much of a pain to do, give me macros any day. I have been using them for a while now without any problems as long as you know what you are dealing with going in. You can now even just use a polyline and put a macro in the label and by using Joe's hasp macro's, it will automatic add them all up for you. Why use a face when you don't have to. Faces weren't designed for that use anyway, use something that was.
  6. Yes but it involves the use of macros custom made by some users here, like Joe Carrick. Chief doesn't do it without the macros.
  7. I don't know, but the very large plans I've seen in Revit came up very fast and once up worked as usual.
  8. I also would show each building as a whole using a small scale with larger paper size as needed, with all the units, but only show any details in the unit plan. Also show total building dimensions.
  9. Chief simply does not have the engine that Revit has. That's why you have to pay the big bucks for it.
  10. I would do it in Revit for sure if you can.
  11. It got a little faster by turning off the doors.
  12. Larry has dual Zeon's going, there goes my theory on a new processor. Has to be a Chief thing
  13. Joe, I edited my post about the overviews, you didn't see it, it does take a while to come up, but ok after that.
  14. Slow for me as well, not sure why. Maybe Joe is on to it. Do a typical unit plan for each different style, but if you need a full overview, takes a while to get there, but ok once you see it.. Maybe a faster computer would handle it. Titan video card 12gb memory , faster CPU. Of course that all cost money. This would make me turn down that job or include the cost of the new computer in the price.
  15. Chief will conventionally frame any area that doesn't have trusses automatically. My contractor clients just don't ever want to use trusses even if the existing has trusses. It takes to much time to set trusses up for them.
  16. Not sure b/c we have already had the training-- but I guess we could always learn something new.
  17. No UGM this year, those are every other year.
  18. You guys are forgetting about this condition. And I think my" Licensed Structural engineer" for 40 plus years, might just know more about this. I have had plan check corrections regarding this, he calls them and --no problem after. Richard, I hope you structures don't collapse, best of luck.
  19. FYI, been doing it that way for 40 years--no problems, talk to a structural engineer that knows. you'll learn.
  20. We try to create a truss effect even when there are no manufactured trusses. Ceiling and rafter joists at the same spacing. Much better than not.
  21. framing defaults and deck defaults
  22. Check the materials list for square footage's .It also includes the roof overhang area.
  23. Not mine, he wants them on every job when not having a bearing ridge including a metal strap
