Above grade crawlspace...best way to address using CA
glennw replied to MJanelleQ's topic in General Q & A
If you are building a slab on grade, you should be using the Monolithic Slab Foundation option which Chief will build automatically once you have built your level 1. Although, you talk about walls, so maybe you don't want a mono slab, but rather walls with footings? -
1. As you have discovered, there is no control available for the terrain Modifiers. I never use the modifier tools. Use the Elevation Data tools instead - especially the Elevation Region tool. You can then draw flat areas at various shapes and specified heights and Chief will grade the terrain between the Elevation Regions. 2. Select the rooms, open their dbx and change their floor/ceiling heights.

Chad, Sorry, I should have been clearer. Can you post pictures of the Wall Type Definition dbx from each version as they are different between versions.
-
Chad, Can you post an image of the problem wall in both X11 and X13? There was a change with X13 having to do with the way the framing layer is handled.

Double clicking a toolbar button brings up the Default Settings dbx (as you show) - the dbx that opens depends on the state of Edit Active Default On Double Click in Preferences. This is the correct behaviour. But your main problem seems to be the single click on the toolbar button.

Building Elevation and Terrain Elevation Dissociation
glennw replied to SiteRes17's topic in General Q & A
Try Subfloor Height Above Terrain. Uncheck Automatic and play with the values. -
you have intrigued me with this. what does this mean? I think this is referring to the fact that in older versions of Chief you had to draw walls in a clockwise direction so that the wall was the correct way around. I more recent versions, however, Chief will automatically reverse the wall direction to ensure (in most cases) that the wall is not "inside out".

In plan view, select the stair on the right with the problem. Drag it's lower edge up away from the wall - the stair should fix itself. Drag the stairs lower edge back to the wall.

Strange that you have new credit card numbers, but the same credit card account. This can also happen when the expiry date is reached. Same credit card account and same account numbers - just new expiry date.

Send the apprentice down to the building supplier and tell him to get a #4 size skyhook.

Try View menu....Scrollbars

Cabinet Back adjustment for ceiling beam and wall skirting

You can use Suppress Adjacent Room Moldings to cut the baseboard. I think this was new to X13. -
Curved roof mates when selected but does not in views

Trim the plan down so that it only has the basics like walls floors and roofs. Or zip it up. -
Curved roof mates when selected but does not in views
glennw replied to gene1472's topic in General Q & A
OK, I think I follow you. Your main roof on the left is made up of 2 roof planes, the lower roof plane having a concave curve into the gutter. You want the roof plane on the right of the main roof planes to intersect with the main roof planes (including the curved one). As Eric says, it would be a lot easier if you post the plan. -
Just a tip to keep track of the screen redraw time to save counting the seconds. Preferences>Appearance>Status Bar>Show Screen Redraw Time.
-
Chief sort of has particles. I did this one quickly with spheres (big ones) and Distribution Path, make symbol, copy, rotate...... But, it is very slow to redraw, although you could only use it at the end.

Use Edit Active View in an already existing ML. -
Estimating Material Takeoffs using Material List
glennw replied to SCI_Design's topic in General Q & A
That could be caused by a multitude of reasons. You will have to post a plan. -
Use invisible walls and check Winders for the stairs.

Do you see an Off Angle Wall icon attached to the cursor? What happens if you click on the yellow triangle? Looks like it is an Off Angle Wall under the counter top? -
From the look of the dbx you posted, you can only reference another floor in your plan. You can't reference another plan file.
-
I don't fully understand. Why do you need to apply a splashback? Why not just apply a material to the soffit or solid. If you want the material to run in different directions, explode the object into faces, create a new material that runs in the other direction and apply it to the exploded face.
-
That image you show of the Change Floor/Reference dbx is not from X13. This is the dbx in X13 - and for at least the last several versions.

Steve, I mentioned that way back near the beginning https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/32658-spiral-staircase-with-solid-rail-wall/?do=findComment&comment=256306
