Scott, Are these any good?

Johnny, If I understand you correctly. As Bill said, use Resize in the Transform/Replicate tool. Draw a cad line over a known wall length. The Resize factor is the distance shown in the .pdf divided by the length of the cad line.

Could it be that you have both a floor for the room AND a stair landing on the Stairs & Ramps layer.

How to create a wall with an angled cut top when there's no roof?
glennw replied to JohnnyDio's topic in General Q & A
Wendy, A bit off topic from sloping wall caps, but relevant to wall end caps problems. This is based on your plan. Note the 2 small horizontal walls and the other walls on the old left hand room - end capped, but not in a room. Have a play and move them, break them, etc, and see what happens. Delete the room def on the room to the right - end caps disappear. Delete the foundation - end caps disappear. Some weird stuff going on. Glenns angled wall cap.zip -
Terry, Try doing the dimension with Angle Snaps toggled off. It is Friday nite here now, I could do a Skype session sometime tomorrow. Send me your Skype name. Mine is glenn-woodward

Terry, Your camera is on the Cameras layer - turn that layer on. I am not sure what you are trying to do with dimensions. I gather from your earlier posts that you may be trying to dimension objects and place text in the layout view. This is the incorrect method. All dimensioning and text should be done in the original view - NOT layout. I see that you have placed text in the section detail (page 1 of layout). This I would NOT do. Place the text in the camera view itself. If you want to do a Skype session so that I can see what you are trying to do, let me know.

Robert, They CAN be selected - you just need to unlock that layer. You can select them and edit them, but you need to move them to another layer if you want to keep the edits because each time the model rebuilds, the cross section lines on the Cross Section Lines layer regenerate.

You can use the temporary dimensions easily while placing the door. If you have Temporary dimensions toggled on, while placing the door, click on the appropriate dimension and enter the correct value.

Rob, Try scrolling through Defaults...Materials and see if it is in there. If it is there, it will tell you what objects it is being used on.

Thanks Michael, but I suspect that it won't be enough.

Johnny, There are options in the Ray Trace Options dbx to control the size and resolution of the Ray Trace, like Use Active Window Size, size, resolution, etc. You can zoom in to any part of the view and only render that bit as a test at any size and resolution you want.

Alan, I think it is the ceiling framing for your room below that is causing the problem. The ceiling height for the New Porch room below is set higher than your roof.

Have a look at your wall definition. You have your "Build Platform to Exterior of Layer" = layer 1, exterior of Insulating Foam Block. This means that the floor platform is building through the wall to the external face of the wall. You need to change your wall definition and adjust the above setting. Is your floor meant to build through the wall?

Michael, I did it both ways. With drag and drop it came in as a free standing symbol. Using the Import method, I could specify it as a door so I can place it in a wall.

Worked for me.

Have a good look at the plan and stair settings. It is a curved stair centred with Winders checked.

Unusual error message when deactivating license (X7)

Have a look here. You may be able to use an Emergency Transfer Password. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00696/finding-your-emergency-transfer-password.html -
Ah, thanks Mark. I went back and changed the file.

Mark, I was working under the restraint that all the risers are on radii from a common point (which I marked on my plan). If you make your stair fill transparent, you can see the difference.

Reference levels/ Floor & ceiling levels in elevation
glennw replied to kellytengdahl's topic in General Q & A
The trick to getting your platform lines the correct height in elevation/section is to draw the line (in a scross section/elevation view) at any height. Open it's dbx and check Lock...Length/Angle. Change the Y position in Start or End Point - changing in one spot will automatically change the other. I usually only do this for Chiefs default zero floor level. I then copy/move more elevation lines as needed.- 15 replies

How to build exterior stairs that follow the terrain
glennw replied to Riemie's topic in General Q & A
Yusuf, You can get a similar result using stair sections with the same riser heights and varying tread depths - forming 1 staircase. -
Kelly, Have a look at this. I was able to get the stairs done with Chiefs stair tool. The rails and walls now need cleaning up - I don't know what your requirements are. Catalina stairs amended by Glenn.zip

Yusuf, Still no consistent riser heights.
