This is the best method for most pools IMO: 4 walls can get you a square /round pool that can be moved/filled/ has molding profiles/has wall coverings/shows water...easy to control, manipulate and move around, looks great in 3d

I use Kbirds method, walls cut terrain so it works quite well, additionally I'd be happy to do a custom molded insert imported from sketchup..would take me next to no time, maybe 10 minutes, let me know.

Do you have a picture from the mfr.?

What's that edit that does curved arrow lines?
Renerabbitt replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Not sure I know of any tricks that you don't already know(I think you should make an obscure tricks thread.) Here's one maybe, You can replace referenced texture files for materials in the main/bonus/manufactured libraries by re-zipping the referenced texture source file with your own so long as the referenced source replaces the original with the same name. Useful in a multi-office environment looking for better textures with maybe a few less library sync issues. maybe another but I'm guessing you know that library symbols can carry macros. -

I figured it may help someone else less superman-ish I actually can't think of an instance where I would want an arrow to snap to an angle, but I typically draft on 11x17 and am trying to stuff info anywhere I can. Alt+ctrl is actually a button on my CA MIDI controller...less hand cramps. -

in other words, OOTB I believe angle snaps are enabled in preferences at 15 degree increments per plan defaults and your arc will snap to 15 degrees as you try and place your arc per the referenced method of right click or alt. Pressing down control temporarily disables angle snaps so that you can place the end of your segment anywhere that pleases you. -

The handle at the arrow's end of a CAD segment is what I was referring to, and holding down ctrl while either holding the right mouse or the alt key disables angle snaps. -

Holding control with the alt key while dragging the arrow handle is an extra special trick.. try it out -
Remote Part Time Chief designer wanted
Renerabbitt replied to designercats's topic in Seeking Services
I'd be willing to take on some additional design work on a freelance basis time permitting, however I'd prefer X-11, any reason not to upgrade? Also, is the info@ email address your preferred contact? -
Not sure if anyone has come up with a new method but I build shaped stairs out of landings as they use a polyline. Simply stack your landings to create stairs and uncheck railings in the dbx.

Also periodically check to see if you have multiple user libraries in your sync location, when CA writes a big user library at the close of a program it takes a while for the cloud service to upload ..if your other system is trying to download at the same time and then CA is opened on the new machine the cloud authoring system will write a new user library with a different file pathing, making you lose any new symbols without any warning or alert. Their is a workaround as I describe earlier..good luck!

Please report back in time, curious to see if you start running into CA crashes over time. The way authoring works on most cloud systems is that a file is locked for editing when syncing to a cloud often times longer than what your machine represents..when a new system tries to sync it will attempt to access this file, this can cause a corruption in system files, essentially crashing the program and at times even making you restore the program..

Also what preferences are you changing so frequently? .just for my own curiosity and so maybe I have a better solution for you...I maybe tweak a preference once or twice a year.
-
I would encourage you to change your methods...having worked with clouds since their introduction I would be very hesitant to trust the recent files list to always be up to date. What is wrong with getting to know your file structure and opening the files directly from finder/explorer? It's just as fast and with the added benefit of having a higher likelihood that you won't be opening up an earlier version of the file I can also guarantee that you will start getting redundancies in your library over time. I have a video that goes over a method that works for me in the symbols and content thread in my signature. Syncing the inf file will occasionally crash your computer..I've tried it personally, not to get into the finite details but it has more to do with the cloud authoring methods than Chiefs handling of it's core structure. From a programming standpoint it wouldn't be a good decision to make chief cater to a moving Target...I know I wouldn't spend a ton of money developing something to work with a platform that could change next year just so someone can have an added convenience that they could achieve by other means

Cloud computing is still in its infancy and its a rare occasion when core dll/ini or other native filetypes central to a programs execution are available for authoring and syncing...for many reasons, but namely, because of its implied volitility. Need some clarification as to what exactly you are trying to sync; libraries, preferences, plan/layout defaults, toolbars? Dependent on what you are looking for I would recommend different methods or would encourage you to change your workflow. I see no reason to sync preferences as they are simple to duplicate and would only complicate things trying to sync them in cloud. Defaults settings can be saved using the SAM method or simply saving plans as templates etc. Toolbars can be synced using symbolic links, same as libraries...though more temperamental.

Pizza! We don't have any PIZZA symbols

Only in CA can you find a flying pizza saucer somewhere out in the midwest. -

Yeah you managed to save the thumbnail, maybe loading as you said, thumb is in the image title, funny...and thank you!

I think it happens with higher resolution images? Need to click on it

Just thought I'd share a method, plain and simple, the attached image is a perspective vector overview with a 10 degree field of view and all materials modified to create the look. The view is sent to layout and sent backwards in the drawing order behind a site plan with annotations only. Enjoy!

By adding a reference layer you have modified the saved plan view "Working Plan View." You will either need to save the plan view or if you switch to a different saved plan view CA will prompt you with a dialogue on whether you would like to save the modified plan view.

Would strongly advise against this and is unnecessary as illustrated by Michael's post.
