Super sensitive mouse

I've been noticing recently that when I select an object with a left mouse click and try to move that object often it immediately opens the object's dbx.  Is anyone else having this issue?  What could cause this and how do I fix it?

Old mouse disease.

Blow compressed air into your mouse. Certain mfr like Logitech are known for this

I experienced the exact same thing and I have about a 50% success rate in grabbing a grip and moving something first time. I've noticed it happens more when trying to move dimensions but that might just be me and it's super frustrating because now I have to keep my hand near the escape key.  And my mouse is a brand new Logitech MX4. Only a couple weeks old, so I don't think it's the mouse.

So I actually did notice the same thing and I thought it was just my mouse because I was noticing it on someone else's machine when I was remotely connected but it would make sense of course if it was just an issue across Chief Architect We should all report it

I had a similar problem, thought it was a hardware issue, so I bought a new mouse. Seems to be fine now, but this sounds too coincidental.

Is it a wired mouse or wireless. I have issues with the wireless mouse if the battery is low.

Wireless, changing batteries was the first thing I did. Tried cleaning out the buttons as well, but neither helped. It is an older mouse, figured it was time for a new one anyways.

When I left click and hold on a grip and start dragging whatever it is, it feels like nothing is happening until I let go of the left click and then it opens the dialogue box or the parent folder or whatever to the item that I was trying to move.

Doesn't appear to make any difference. 

The problem for me is only occurring in Chief.

• It's just the left mouse button
• The right mouse button works correctly.

I submitted a ticket with support.  My mouse is a Logitec M185 wireless with a new battery.

you might try turning off the auto scroll function in preferences.

Thanks Perry.  That's the key.  However, it also turns off the X18 sceen scrolling when dragging.

Yes, I reported it to Brian.  Here's what I told him:

• Yes, a corded mouse works.

• Perry suggested that I should turn off automatic scrolling in Preferences.  I did that and the Logitec mouse worked correctly as well.  The only problem is the loss of the X18 drag & scroll feature.

• So evidently there' something in the automatic scrolling code that messes with the logitec mouse software.  Hopefully one of Chief's software engineers can figure out a fix.

If a corded mouse works, this is most likely related to something with the Logitech settings or driver.  
We have not been able to reproduce this issue, I and a large portion of team are using Logitech mice everyday.

I have however on multiple occasions seen the Logitech driver get completely broken when it updates in the background which then causes a variety of issues.  Sometimes this can be resolved by just relaunching the Logi software after update(you won't know it updated since it happens silently in the background), in other cases I have had to do a full uninstall of the Logi software and then reinstall it to get it the mouse to work correctly.  Given you started seeing this recently and we haven't released any changes to Chief, this seems like a likely culprit.

 

If you are not using the custom button functionality that the software provides you can uninstall it since it isn't doing anything but causing problems in that case.

 

Another troubleshooting step you can take is to try and temporarily disable the software. It doesn't look like they provide an easy way to do this, so you would probably have to kill the task via task manager.

Brian,  Isn't it interesting that the "Automatic Scrolling" setting in Preferences being on vs off makes a difference?  That indicates to me that something in Chief's software just isn't compatible with the mouse driver.

So it's not just Logitec?  If that's true then it is more likely Chief that's at fault.

I turned in a report a while ago, and support told me the issue was the automatic‑scrolling setting in Chief. They said they would fix it. That’s what sticks with me.

I believe the issue you reported had to do with using saved plan views that had the Remember Zoom feature turned on causing the view to scroll incorrectly if the new Auto-Scroll feature was turned on.  This issue is resolved in the build you currently have.  I don't see any reports relating to errant double clicking occuring.

I'm going to screen record this as a baseline because it only happens in Chief and it only happens when I want to grab a grip and move it. And it's about 50% of the time that it doesn't grab and I end up dragging the mouse cursor to where I want it and nothing comes, but then it opens up the dialog box. So, give me a few minutes.  And it's only x18, so there is a difference between 17 and 18.

Perry,

I looked up your report. I told you to turn off the auto scroll feature because of the issue with the screen jumping in plan views. My guess is if you turn it back on you can no longer reproduce the issue. This is not related in anyway to what Joe is describing with errant double clicking occurring.
