How to calculate roof sqft?

Anyway to calculate the square footage/area of the roof...taking the roof pitch into consideration, as well?

Yes open each roof plane and check the "Roof Surface Area" of the polyline or let the Material list tally them all for you.

I have a macro package that can be used.  One macro is added to the label of each roof plane to accumulate the data of all the roof planes.  Another macro is placed in a text box to display the data including the totals.

I just run a material list and look at shingles. Don't know how accurate it is but I assume it's close...

Yes, I believe shingles would give me what I'm after.  However, I'm using a metal roof.  I guess I can always switch back to shingles just to get my calculation then change back to metal when I need.

Disregard, I now see the roof area for the metal roof.  I'd never done a metal roof before, so I didn't know how it shows.  I see it now.

1. Switch to Roof Plan View
2. Hold down (Ctrl) and select all roof planes
3. Click on the Open This object icon on the lower left
4. Click on Polyline
5. Look for Roof Surface Area.

Those are all good ways to do it.

I also found that adding 10% to the square footage gives me an appropriate number for waste.

Instead of steps 1-3, you could also just use the "edit all roof planes" tool.

 

The other thing you can do now in X15 is just create a custom schedule and set it to include roof planes.  Then just add the column for surface area and the totals row.
