mpatalsky
I'm trying to drop the garage down 32" so the shed roof will not interfere with windows. When I do that it drags the second floor down with it. When I go back up & raise the second floor back to where it belongs it pulls the garage back up. What am I missing?!?!?!?!? joey_martin
Need to set this up in foundation bdx before you build it.
mpatalsky
Joey, I looked through the bdx & I think I have it setup correct. Solver, I inputted the values & it didn't accomplish what I need. If I normally have a garage wall framed at 133 1/8" (121 1/8" + 11 1/4" joist + 3/4" sub floor) to match my first floor walls, I want to lower all of the garage walls 32" below the first floor walls including the 24" stem wall & footer. I realize I would have a girder truss or beam to support the second floor that is above the garage.

Lot 13 111819.plan Why not just drop the garage floor down...and move the roof down. This will create a "clipped" ceiling in the garage over the overhead door...which you may not want. If this is the case...do what Eric suggested above.
SNestor
Here's another method...kind of like what Eric suggested. - drop the garage "rough ceiling" height -32". (the elevation should now be 109.125) - Turn on your reference display. - draw walls (siding-6) under the walls above - Open the dialogue box for these walls and make them invisible...and no locate if you choose. - Now...click in the room created by the new invisible walls. Click "shelf ceiling". Make sure the "rough ceiling" height is 109.125" You should now have a flat ceiling in the garage...with a ceiling of 2x6 created under the floor above that extends over the garage. You can now lower the 6/12 roof over the single garage door down -32"...or so. You may only want to lower it -28" as there really isn't a lot of room above the garage door itself for a header. See pics below... Draw walls, make them invisible... In this area...create a "shelf ceiling"
mpatalsky
Wow guys thanks for the detailed explanation. I stepped out of the office & I am looking & considering these options. Quickly looking at this it looks like Steve you did not drop the footer down in the garage 32". This would give me the header room for the garage doors. I never knew or notices the "shelf ceiling". Thanks again!
mpatalsky
I've tried guys & come up short. I want the garage concrete floor to be 30" below the subfloor. The concrete floor sits on top of a 24" stem/frost footing. Garage walls being high enough that I can get casing around the man door going into the house. It seems really simple but I can't!!! Lot 13 112519.plan I've never seen anything like this. The garage foundation walls apparently refuse to move using the structure dbx. You can drag them into submission in a section/elevation view, but you shouldn't have to.

Lot 13 112519.plan I'd send this in to tech support asap. There's something really weird going on here. The structure refuses to build according to the inputs in the structure tab of the dbx and it displays conflicting information as well.
mtldesigns
Hi Mike, Was this what your trying to do? Lower the garage floor so you can drop the shed roof to clear second floor window? The issue was the second floor dropped too? I had a similar case, split level basically. See the attached cross section. I also attached your plan... I did not mess with your roof.. fig. you can do that. Hope I understood the issue and helped. Oh.. on the foundation dbx I checked room supplies floor for the room above. mpatalsky
I'm glad it's not just me Rob. Michael I opened your file & the garage frost walls need to go down 24" plus the 12" footer. The floor is the only thing that will move down. I'll take Rob's advise & send it to tech support. Thanks,

The Eric Method actually I wasn't / aren't sure if I understood the Issues correctly ( and I don't know if it's fixed 100%) but especially in a Plan that has had many manipulations / multiple tries at something I find you can not always believe the DBX info/heights, ( or Graphic) you have to trust you know the right settings for the floor levels and literally ignore the wrong numbers sometimes. The Floor was at -30 for instance but the Floor below is at -12 ...how could that be? ( that's 18" above the Floor at -30" ) so if my math is correct it should be at -58 ( -30 + 4" lower for slab + 24" lower for stem wall = -58 ) ...seems to work okay at -58" anyway And I may have play with a few of the other settings like whether the top or bottom of the Floor resize Option is set to top or bottom..... the foundation level shouldn't have a "floor" either I did not look at the other Issues up above if they are still present ??? See the saved elevation Cameras....I also put a few pics in the Plan off the Settings I used .... ***note ..... to IGNORE the 3D Graphic in the DBX (ie 46" stem wall) use a Cross Section to Confirm or see saved cameras. It will be interesting to see what Tech Support suggests ....... MHD_Lot 13 112519.plan
