lbuttery
The attached DWG file is imported as a single line ? it is suppose to be a floor plan of a suite of rooms I am renting for my Foundation's museum I used the import wizard and accepted the default settings is this a "bad" file or am I doing something wrong the file is only 114 KB so I suspect it is a "bad" file ? my experience with importing DWG's is minimal I used to have a viewer on my prior PC but don't remember the name what is a decent free viewer to use ? Alaskan_Son
I got similar results as you Lew. I have a feeling the file was exported incorrectly. And word on the street is that the best free AutoCAD-like software is DraftSight.

Kbird1
it was importing as 2 lines until I checked the box for "import hatch entites" then it came in ok.
lbuttery
yep, it was "import hatched entities" that worked Lew
DRAWZILLA
Usually Chief recommends you turn off import hatching, so my is off. Whoever sent you that must have had some layers different than usual.

4hotshoez
"SolidWorks eDrawings" is a free viewer that works on both Mac and Windows and the file does have something on it. See the attachment.
lbuttery
Todd: thanks for the reference I now have Draftsight once I saw that the file was good I played with Chief's import settings until it came into Chief properly I was not able to get the CAD to Walls tool to work so I had my partner/friend trace over it I find the CTW tool to be worthless Lew
Kbird1
SolidWorks is part of the Draftsight "Group" at least Draftsight's followup emails have included SolidWorks materials
lbuttery
since I already have Draftsight installed should I swtich to Solidworks Edrawings ? I only plan to use it to verify that a CAD file "works" before importing into Chief I probably won't be doing that too often either Lew
ACADuser
Wow what a mess. That DWG is nothing but hatches, no lines or plines.
ACADuser
See attached file with hatches deleted & only hatch outlines remain. NACC SUITE 118. Level 0.zip
Gary_M
No Lew. Draftsight is enough for you. On a dwg such as this that was so screwed up, and without you having any knowledge with autocad type stuff, it would be more a waste of your time trying to deal with it rather than letting someone here help you. That is unless you want to learn a new program?
lbuttery
Noooooo, nothing new seriously, I just wanted to be able to see if the CAD file had something in it Lew
