Arched Gable End

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon

We have a remodel wherein the gable ends will be arched.   My problem is the fascia board , and framing will not follow the arch.   I only need it to look good for renderings - not looking for framing correctness or material lists etc....

Please note the Plan is in X7 as we have not updated to X8 !!

Thanks

Mark

Thanks Shane - But when I have those clicked - the Fascia is straight and does not follow the roof edge....

I did not zoom in, you are correct on fascia being straight.

Mark, Unless someone suggests a simple solution here that I have not thought of... It looks like you may be doing some Bolean operations with solids. If you had curved the roof rather than the gable chief would be of some help but I don't think there is a specific tool for this. If you choose to do this and would like some more details let me know.

Select those edges and click the "Convert Curve To Polyline" tool.  Give the curve a higher number of segments to keep it from looking too choppy.  And make sure you have fascia checked as has already been mentioned.  This was done in X8 but X7 works the same way...

Very nice Michael.  Now I need to go play with a new roof.

Michael,

Thanks for that tip.  Have not seen that in the manual.

Glad I did not try to make a 1 hour video on Bolean operations.

That is one to be sure and remember.

What was your method to arch or curve gabel fascia?

Shane,  Select the curved edge of the roof plane and follow Michael's instructions.  Works great.  You don't really want to know what I thought may have to be done.

Obviously ChopSaw. What was method used to change from straight gabel fascia to curved gabel fascia?

Shane, Using Michael's method on the curved edge of the roof plane takes care of the curved fascia.  The roof plane data is used to generate the fascia.  Did you try it?

Chopsaw I wanted to know the method Mark (OP) changed gabel roof plane from straight to arched. Yes I tried Michaels' suggestion on making fascia appear in 3d views and yes it works. Another great tip from Michael.

Ahh.... Now I understand the question.  Yes that is a polyline subtraction trick, quite ingenious.  Not in the roof toolkit.

Don't get carried away too much or your contractor might unfriend you.  There is a limit to what is practical.
