  1. I avoid the issue by always having the same plan and layout name during the project by doing "save as" I also do a "save as" adding date/time and other info first to create backups doing a double "save as" is very quick - gives frequent backups - keeps plan and layout in sync Lew
  2. If it still does not appear run a plan check and that should bring it back. this has always been a strange and ridiculous "solution" Lew
  3. Stuart: The builder and I bid on a similar project and to get the bid right I did some research on all the code items it takes to allow habitable space above a garage have you talked to the permit office about this project ? the code items that have to be dealt with are very extensive and costly the client choose not to proceed with the project due to the cost another point to consider- does the permit office allow for stamping of plans not created by the stamper ? some jurisdictions do - for others it is illegal to do so Lew
  4. Ivan: Eric is right it would be best to discuss with CA's sales or tech support to fully understand how to coordinate the workflow between Premier and HD products I would suspect that any of the HD products below HD PRO are SOL and maybe even PRO ? Lew
  5. just guessing but plants can be placed based on age and can grow over a 20 year period maybe you need to set what age to start the plants at ? Lew
  6. Hapsco: while the HD products have their own forum - Hometalk HD PRO users can benefit by following the Chieftalk forum as well since HD PRO has manual roofs, framing, cabinets etc etc Lew
  7. Edward: yes, EVERY jurisdiction is different even those in the same state I did most of my work in the DC metro area that included DC, MD VA and multiple counties for each all different this is what we were able to do in those jurisdictions the builders didn't use architects and for some of the projects we subbed out the drawings to the trades for their part the builder would sign/submit the plans If it won't work in your area - then ??? Lew
  8. Do you just accept schematics from any tradesman and throw your stamp on it? Edward: I don't stamp/sign the plans the builder does the trades work for the builder its a symbiotic relationship the trades sign their own pages if/as needed Lew
  9. Aaron: you may have to contact CA's tech support on Monday hours are 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific Lew
  10. This may be a case where each building is done in a separate plan then saved as a 3D symbol and stored in the library then in the master site plan add all those symbols this is not required but is how I like to handle projects with multiple buildings it also allows for building roofs and framing etc independently Lew
  11. Steve: I always do my own save as - I don't rely on Chief's archival system I name my Master plan and layout as 123_Main.plan and 123_Main.layout this keeps them linked at all times each time I do a save as I do it twice - first time as 123_Main_Model_170305_1315_LBX9.plan and again as 123_Main.plan - its very fast doing a double save as for plans besides Model - I also use Remod or Alt01 Alt02 etc for layouts I use 123_ Main_Layps or Laycp - where ps = permit set and cp = client presentation the LB is my initials - my partner would use JK that way I know who last worked on the plan/layout X9 is the Chief version - I have been advocating that CA add this to the extension - such as .planX9 170305_1315 is the date/time in military time this way everything stays in one folder for 123_Main within that folder I have sub-folders for Master where .plan and .layout go and source where I store pics that I or the client might want to see or the survey etc etc Deliverables for anything I send to the client Views for renders and rays that I shoot for my own needs and maybe to send to the client Lew
  12. Edward: why not sub out that task ??? I would provide the MEP trades floor plans they would provide drawings of where things needed to go and sizing etc I would add that to my permit set and the builder would submit the client pays the fees - one stop shopping for the client Lew
  13. probably best to discuss with your professor then as to what to do maybe add the info in a nearby location ? Lew
  14. When I took the Intermediate Chief training class the instructor stated that just about "any" roof can be done with the auto-gen I never did learn roof tools very well so I usually had my partner do them he generally did them manually Lew
  15. another choice is to download the Elefont utility Lew
  16. I doubt if it can be moved probably best to contact CA's tech support they are closed on the weekend - open 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific Lew
  17. You may need to contact CA's tech support and they can assist Hours are 6 AM - 5 PM Pacific (-8 GMT) Lew
  18. Would be grateful for any guidance or resolution as the number of hours spent on this alone has been extremely unproductive I always looked at these as "learning curve" time after a solution is found - I would go back and do it again and count that as "billable time" there is always something new to learn about Chief and pulling permits and building codes etc etc etc sometimes you have to know your limits and just hire a sub to do that "nasty" chief task Lew
  19. yes, do a google search there are plenty of images out there it has become a common request Lew
  20. Did you move "everything" using the edit area tool with the all floors option? can't remember if I used the transform/replicate tool also on the project I had to "expand" probably still may need some cleanup Lew
  21. Ben: I usually had a client presentation layout and a permit layout the client might want to see lots of renders and maybe some rays where the permit office just wants the condocs I still use PDF995 and it has a companion utility PDF995Edit that is worth considering Lew
  22. Javatom: If they are paying for them I'll do as many versions as they want Lew
  23. Rob: it helps to have samples of each of the service levels (bronze - stellar) I had a client for a $1.6 M mansion in Baltimore He insisted all he wanted was condocs - no 3D towards the end of the project I had put together some nice renders and few rays to add to my website he took one look and insisted that he wanted them as his wife couldn't understand the floorplans Lew
  24. contact CA's customer support but I don't think there is any issue Lew
  25. Bill: PREFERENCES - FILE MANAGEMENT - DISABLE FILE LOCKING in general you want file locking on to prevent you or others from working on a file in two places it is possible you have that file open somewhere else in your PC ? sometimes accessing the file for something else will keep the lock on even tho you closed it there try doing a restart of Chief and if needed a restart of your PC if all that fails then try DISABLE FILE LOCKING be sure to turn it back on as soon as possible Lew
