CA has consistently stated "the more cores the better" get as many as you can afford I was surprised to learn recently that i5 cpu's don't have hyper-threading i3's are meant for average home use thus, an i7 (or equivalent) is recommended Lew

you may want to contact CA's tech support they are open till 5 PM Pacific they are closed on the weekends Lew

rate can vary vastly from location to location some charge by hour, some by flat rate, some by sqft I never did sqft but would quess-timate all three and then give estimate based on the combined info - not sure I ever got it "right" one suggestion is to find the local rate for garage mechanics and basic plumbers or electricians or other trades but if you are just starting out then charge less until you establish experience and a reputation then move towards the higher rate never, ever work for free or vastly reduced rate I did my first project for free - never should have done that I should have said if it goes to permit then pay $x Lew

Odd, Toto said that the files work with all CAD programs Chief is technically not a CAD program .... Chief doesn't play in the .BIM pool even tho Chief has some BIM capabilities CA has so far determined that Chief doesn't need to be in the BIM pool you will need to convert the files to a format that Chief recognizes Lew
-
Chief can't import .bim files I've never heard of a .bim file ??? I know what BIM apps are but a .bim file type ??? maybe Envisioneer ??? http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fileextensions/f/bimfile.htm you may need to convert the .bim file to a file type that Chief can use ? Lew
-
what are the file types ? if it is a file type that CA can import you should be able to drag and drop into a plan then add to the library you can also try MENU - FILE - IMPORT and try using the import wizard(s) Lew

I Talked with Chief support.......She told me to see if I could find a good person on chief talk to supply me with them. Hmmm, this is surprising since SSA is required to download them ??? also, surprising since CA has a library DVD for sale ??? I suspect you got someone who doesn't understand what you asked If anyone wants to help they should verify with CA first and maybe get them to send an email giving permission to provide the libraries Lew
-
Jay: that would be a violation of the license etc with CA best to contact CA sales and buy a library DVD Lew

Matt: formerly Mike thanks, memory is a terrible thing to lose a pic helps to understand the words/actions Lew

Matt: formerly Mike can you post an image of the result ? Lew

Glenn because today it IS A WALL tomorrow it won't be - but may be replaced by another WALL so when reviewing a plan are you looking at today or tomorrow or both ??? I think "both" for now it is "semantics" as we have no choice but to use two plans or a cad block then add multiple alternatives for "tomorrow" and it can be a real PITA to have to make a change to all the plans attempting to keep them all in sync can lead to error having total control of layers so that we can show wall A or B or C or D .... would be very nice however, I suspect it will be a long time coming - probably never but I will keep asking Lew
-
it is a special form of invisible wall look at the various dbx's where you can select wall types including wall definition dbx and some show room divider and others show invisible wall If I remember some show both ? in my opinion all dbx's that allow for wall type selection should show BOTH !!! Lew
-
yes, but floor 30 can be 0' 0" with all the other floors having negative values Lew
-
Chief has invisible wall and room divider CA made it very confusing by having one or the other tool available in the various DBX's in one or two places they have both guaranteed to be confusing look around they are both there - "somewhere" have fun trying to memorize "where" each appears Lew
-
I don't like having the main (upper) floor not at elevation zero Chief can have 30 floors even floor 30 can be set to elevation zero Multiple floors below #1 would be nice you can put the "main level" on floor 30 if you want thus you can have all 30 floors below grade if desired
-
two schools of thought on floor 0 some, including CA, use it for foundation and basement others use it for foundation only toss a coin - take a choice Lew
-
A clean model is a happy model, existing walls left in the plan, just muck it up. Yep, unfortunately true, but true.... Lew
-
Scott: I usually do what Tommy does I sometimes use a Cad Block like Joey said "later" however, Joey originally said "layersets" and that wasn't clear I suspected he meant cad blocks because I know he is experienced but someone new reading this thread might get confused and try to use multiple walls in the same location and then try to control display with layers/layersets personally, I will continue to advocate for being all to do "everything" in one plan we can't do it now - but it would be nice to be able to control "all" via layers Lew
-
Joey: how can layersets do it ??? it would be nice if we had total control of the layers so that multiple walls could occupy the same space but currently chief doesn't allow for that Lew
-
Scott: I think the OP is trying to scale a jpg of a floorplan Lew
-
can you print to PDF in landscape mode ? if PDF works then it may be a problem with the printer ? also you won't waste paper during testing of settings tech support will be open on Tuesday 5 AM Pacific Lew
-
I wish Chief would let us into all that information that's available to use Been asking for this for almost a decade Lew
-
it's possible to Calibrate a monitor or laptop screen for true color. You can also calibrate your printer to match the monitor only to a certain level when showing clients and ordering paint etc probably best to state "close but not guaranteed" real world can still be different depending on material and light .... no antivirus software is running. I'm on a Mac, which doesn't need it Ummmmm.... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2406379,00.asp Lew -
Ross: you will need to post the plan otherwise, just guesses Lew
