Stop Using Paint Tool!!!!! Especially the newbies!!!
lbuttery replied to ShaneK's topic in General Q & A
why Windows has an "UNDO" command when one screws up assuming one spots the issue at that time Rod didn't find the issue until he did Schedules Also, not everyone has time to "play" with every setting of every tool in a variety of scenarios It is just not feasible ... Lew -

CA doesn't carry or sell old hardware locks it is illegal to sell a lock if the software has been upgraded however, they can be donated for the cost of mailing only I have already donated my X1 lock - but perhaps someone else would be willing the donor should be able to verify with CA that you have a valid license if you fail to find a donor I would suggest looking here and on ebay for a used license to buy but I would recommend getting X4 or later as the current library system was created then plus X4 offered anno-sets another choice is to do the rent-to-own policy CA offers for a brand new X12 license Lew Lew 716-545-7101

x12 plan changing to x10 when sent to flash drive
lbuttery replied to RJBPILOT's topic in General Q & A
for clarification if you run X10 it should NOT be able to open an X12 plan, regardless of the name or icons etc Chief is NOT capable of backward compatibility Lew -
Beth: for real life use install the pet door as close to the bottom of the door as you can my golden ret. has a broken hip and he struggles with "tripping" on the bottom edge I had to buy the extra large door - normally for St. Bernards etc so he wouldn't have to stoop plus he is obese from lack of exercise I've been using petdoors for decades - I recommend the double flap doors for cold weather situations or high winds sometimes I built an enclave entrance and had two doors at right angles to prevent cold winds from entering house but the double flap doors work fairly well I spent less than this vendor so shop around - I believe I got mine from Home Depot this is just an example of the double flap door https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZ6NOHZ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01LZ6NOHZ&pd_rd_w=XET6g&pf_rd_p=f0355a48-7e73-489a-9590-564e12837b93&pd_rd_wg=gOssu&pf_rd_r=RH0F85V7C76T3YWSQX30&pd_rd_r=398e2b06-6e14-43c0-956c-a1a81f8bee7b&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRzhMOTg2MldMTjEmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA2ODM5MTgyS1M3WEZLMzZUTURXJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5NTAyMzYxTVo5Sk9WMEtUU0Q1JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsX3RoZW1hdGljJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Lew

yes, you can use an external drive to save all your projects etc chief used to get "grumpy" if the main files were stored on an external drive check preferences and look at the list of files that they allow you to specify where they are located probably best to have a chat with CA's tech support to verify your needs but many chiefers use external drives carbonite does charge more to backup an external drive but I think it is worth it also check out external SSD drives: https://www.amazon.com/External-Solid-State-Drives/b?ie=UTF8&node=3015429011 Lew

one can make a living using Chief alone adding other software to your toolbox can't hurt either as the saying goes "if all you have is a hammer, then everything begins to look like a nail" I started part-time in 2006 with NO experience, same with my partner 2007 was our first full year of doing Chief and we had 13 clients, 18 projects, and made $56K and won a Historical Merit Award for a renovation all without advertising, just word of mouth via networking by joining AIA and NARI etc then 2008 came ... Create Terrain Perimeter from Survey and Import into Building.plan file
lbuttery replied to rfantclt's topic in General Q & A
one method is to create a 3D symbol of the building(s) and place them in the library then place the symbol(s) on the Master site plan as needed for a single building the recommendation is to have one plan but there is no requirement to do so Lew- 9 replies

Hi: the .MTL file can be opened in Notepad etc as it is a text file https://fileinfo.com/extension/mtl you may have to apply the materials manually using Chief you may need to contact CA's tech support for advice Lew

I have always favored the Pro version of each windows release only you can decide what is right for you https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compare-windows-10-home-vs-pro Lew

close the plan in Chief use Windows Explorer to find the file - then right click on the file and select SEND TO - choose COMPRESSED (ZIPPED) FILE if still too large create a Google Gmail account my limit is 25 MB - new account may differ if I mail something larger than 25 MB then google sends it to Google Drive and the receipient can download it this is free yesterday I sent a 767 MB file Lew

Marc: try holding the ctrl key while moving the symbol around Lew

Michael: yet, the OP had to ask how to get a schedule to Excel if there was an export tool it would be more obvious Material List has an export tool - why not schedules ? Lew
-
They ARE the same. Michael: no, they are not the same Material list has a tool to export to Excel Schedules do not copy-paste may work but its not the same as having a dedicated tool why the inconsistency ? why not have an export tool for schedules ? Lew
-
curious question if schedule can be copied to Excel via copy-paste why does the Material List need to be exported ? seems like they should act the same ? Lew
-
select the schedule - right click - schedule to text also can right click again and select convert to rich text the material list can be exported to Excel and other formats why not the schedules ? Lew

Difference between export PDF and print to PDF?
lbuttery replied to Renerabbitt's topic in General Q & A
a little trick when printing a PDF it is possible to select the pages to be printed and saved as another PDF this allows getting rid of non-relevant pages Lew -
if the new plan is a clone of the first plan then try copy - paste - hold position feature Lew
