Actually this is a rather common problem that new users often make (I guess you are just luckier than most). What happens is that during the editing and creating process, one accidentally usually, places a segment of wall, CAD Line etc, quite a distance from the main structure. Especially overview cameras are pre-programmed to "include" all visible objects when creating an overview view, so any and all visible objects placed a distance from the main structure create a view that "includes" the structure and any other visible objects along with the main structure which often then gives one a "Blank Screen" thereafter. That is caused by the extreme viewpoint necessary to include all visible objects in the camera view.. The remedy is to find the errant object using "Marque-Select" searches around the house or main structure to find and delete the errant object and thus return expected behavior to those camera views that are so pre-programmed. Take a look and I bet that you WILL find some unintended object somewhere in your plan view (just do not delete anything that is supposed to be there). The above IS the most common cause for your specific complaint. DJP

If you wish to have a very small, specific section, use the back-clip cross section camera. Where you left click, creates the camera "viewpoint" and where you release the mouse determines how much of the model is then displayed per instance. That gives you greater graphic control. DJP

Shed design and T111 siding need some help
DavidJPotter replied to echobravo74's topic in General Q & A
If you want different colors then use the materials specification dialog to alter its tint. DJP -
Fill gap between ceiling plane and cathedral ceiling
DavidJPotter replied to jgauntz's topic in General Q & A
You will need to manually draw an "Attic Wall" marked "Roof cuts bottom" precisely where the vault and ceiling planes meet to fill that gap on the "Attic Level" ( I have never had to do this myself before), I guess you could also just create a custom "poly-line solid" object to fill the gap between the vault and ceiling planes. I think the poly-line solid idea is the easiest one to do. Attic walls can be a little twitchy in custom situations. DJP -
Obviously you built framing and then changed your mind and edited the roof without building framing a new after you changed the roof. Just order framing to be built again and then all will be well. The software only does what you tell it to do when you tell it. DJP

What settings are you using in the "Build Roof" dialog "Overhang"? I am not getting the results you are getting in my X12. DJP

I and many others here can help you with CD creation. I have an account with "Zoom" meetings where we can work together to create your documents in Chief and if you like, even video the sessions for your later use, let me know please. My contact information is below in my "Signature" DJP

This is not common Chief Premier behavior, so my first advice is to check your PC or Mac for virus, malware, out of date software drivers and how long has it been since you physically cleaned the interior of your computer? Perhaps it is running too hot? You may have your hard drives too full to properly support optimal performance. How much RAM do you have in your computer, is it enough for good performance? Take a look and then act. DJP

Steve, I know Dan and others decry wall polyline shaping but I tend to like "WHAT WORKS!!!", if someone else finds another workable way, I am interested but not otherwise. I gave up on Chief's "automaticities" years ago DJP

They have a couple of persons that make symbols and that is all they do, not "resources" just additional "hats" on their organization board like any other company. DJP

Nestor, I unchecked the attic walls from pony walls to just exterior attic walls, and then edited the polylines to fit the space, inside and out. I believe it was the ponywall setting that made this overly hard. DJP Nestor.zip

How can I send 3D cameras to Layout while retaining aspect ratio?
DavidJPotter replied to kylejmarsh's topic in General Q & A
You can also export a 3D image view and in the resulting dialog specify the size and resolution of the exported image and then send that result to layout, if absolute control is required. DJP- 24 replies

Changing ceiling heights in all rooms on a floor at the same time.
DavidJPotter replied to mborean's topic in General Q & A
Make sure default settings are correct relative to your intention and then verify those settings in a single Room Specification dialog, then while that verified room is still selected, look for, in the "Edit Toolbar" an icon that has three connected orbs (tool tip says: "Match Properties"), then with the "Apply Properties" tool you "left-click" in any rooms that are not highlighted. The Match Properties dialog and apply properties tools will allow MANY different settings to be shared per floor. There is also a "Reset to Defaults" command under the "File" menu that you can use once you have verified Default settings are correct for your purposes. DJP -
I have never used a Mac but it sounds like Levis has a workable answer for you to try, hope it works. DJP

You seem too "Attached" to your problems to see solutions for what they are:) The rules of 2D CAD are not missing or suspended in CAD details so your comment about "pattern line defaults" makes no sense to me, sorry. DJP

Thank you for that answer. That is why I rarely use PDF's in my layouts: they bloat the size in Mb's of the layout, are often pix-elated being copy's of the original vector view material and thus not as crisp looking. If I require multiple instances of elevations or cross sections I use vector views that have a white background with no problem. My question still remains, what exactly are you trying to solve using PDF's of the model being graphically communicated instead of vector view generated views (you could also make a view to CAD and then send those altered-edited copy's to layout)? When I suggest "Confronting" I mean: "Confronting is defined as being able to face. When we say one is confronting, we mean that he is facing without flinching or avoiding. The ability to confront is actually the ability to be there comfortably and perceive." How is that useful in the use of Chief? I have observed within myself and other users that Specification Dialog's are are often just "OK'ed" without actually confronting what is on the dialog before clicking "OK". Then one is upset with the results because you overlooked the settings presented by the dialog. Another instance of this is not confronting each and every dialog in Chief before using it, including all of that dialog's tabs. I still make this a process I go through ever so often to just look carefully-study-confront each and every dialog box and drop-down menu in the software. I learn or relearn many things just doing this action as a refresher (so many things to remember, ya know?) When things go wrong, the first thing I do is to inspect room dialog box settings, default settings until I find THE setting that is causing the problem (nobody is perfect, all are Human, we miss things etc.) Take the time to carefully LOOK and FIND. Persistence comes in to persevere long enough to FIND and edit what is found to be wrong.. When all else fails, I, just like anyone else, calls Tech Support and way too often they kindly point out that I did not LOOK, effectively enough in many cases. it is a competence thing and a personal Ethics thing, I recommend you start developing a talent for that method. That is a problem? Why please? DJP

Like a lot of things it can be done, if you deem it important enough: You do this in your Profile.plan (make your edits and changes) assigning the edited symbols as defaults, then, thereafter your changes will be "Default" DJP
