https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02944/defining-a-new-wall-type.html Auto Dimensions can be turned on or off and otherwise what you can do is contained in Default Settings - Dimensions - Temporary Dimensions https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/48/creating-layouts-and-construction-documents.html DJP

You do that by opening the symbol using "Edit 3D Symbol" tool where you can then change aspects of the symbol. DJP

If such an option exists in your truss dialog box then possibly but otherwise you will have to do that manually (BTW only State Licensed Structural Engineers can legally design trusses, are you a Licensed Structural Engineer?) DJP

Commonly most users are not aware that the "Display Options" dialog has many instances in Chief Architect, the trick is that they all look identical but in fact, there are minimally 11 different instances of the Display Options dialog: One for Plan View, and one for each camera type so it is easy to have trusses show in plan view but not in a camera view (different Display Options dialogs present the ability to have the Framing, Truss layer on in plan view and off in an elevation camera view (different Display Options Dialogs). Commonly some like me helps you complete the Architectural Plans. Depending where you live you may also be required by your local building authority to have a consulting State Licensed Structural Engineer to say what framing sizes, how framed, beam sizes, rafter sizes and so forth. So we take our Architectural plans, share them with the Engineer in AutoCAD file format and he or she then uses them as a basis for the Engineer drawings. Which are printed to paper, stamped by the Engineer and the two finished sets then go together to the Permit Authority to gain a building permit (Architectural Plans and Structural Plans together). You need to find out what IS required locally and share that understanding with whomever then helps you with the Architectural plan set. DJP

Sorry, I agree with Eric on this matter. DJP

What ever happened to trial and error, looking to find out?

Make copies of your custom material, then open-edit them in an image editing program to change the grout colors and material color, then import into Chief for application. DJP

You should be able to make this in Chief using regular Dutch Lap siding and then add the wood grained texture to tis surface using the "Define Material" tool. Or you can use from the Library Browser - Materials - Siding - Lap - Natural" and then alter its appearance using the "Define Material" tool .Take a look. DJP

Run both CA Premier and old CA version 10.8 on same computer
DavidJPotter replied to rocketman's topic in General Q & A
no, just my old XP disc. For merely converting old file associations before X1 (.pl1. pl2, pl3 etx .CA and .la ), anyone can simply use X8 or a trial version of X8. DJP -

I have versions 7-X1 on a hard drive that has Windows XP 32 on it, they run fine there. X2 through X12 run on another hard drive that has Windows 10 X64 on it as an OS. Dual booting is the ONLY way I know of to do as you wish. DJP -
I would guess that your video card's software drivers might be out of date (easy to fix, just update them and then try again to see if that was it). If that does not work, see about upgrading your video card (take the old one out and replace it with a better-newer one). DJP

If you wish to be an Architect, go back to college and get an Architectural degree. Then work for an Architectural firm a while. Then take the State Architectural board test. If you wish to be a draftsperson, what I did was I was working for a remodeling firm, first as a sub and then as Construction Supervisor. Then the boss decided to start using Chief for our drawings and he asked me to evaluate the software which was recommended to us by our consulting Architect. I fell in love with it and self taught myself how to use it and how to Architectural draft-all self taught. Draftspersons can also train themselves and become AIBD (see their website for requirements) and or the AIA associate program, do the studying and take the tests to become certified with them. What customers require is competence whatever you do. If you wish a job you then have to meet the bosses requirements. Good luck. DJP

I have versions X1 through X12 on my PC, so I opened my X10 and exported my Marvin Library to share with you here. Download it by clicking here (I placed the large file, too large for Chief Talk, on my One Drive account) and then once downloaded to your hard drive from X10 under "Library" select "Import Library File", navigate to your downloaded file and then there you should be! After you have downloaded it I will delete it from my One Drive account. DJP

Toolbars can also be manually turned off in the main interface: "Tools - Toolbars and Hot Keys" and also by "right-click" on the main tool bar and in the contextual menu that appears "Toolbars etc". But as Ryan said above "Preferences>Reset options>toolbars" should get you going. DJP

You can place the file on a cloud server for sharing with others but as Mick said, NO ONE can work on the same plan file at the same time. DJP
-
If Mick's solution is the one you are looking for (Personally I am not sure EXACTLY what that is, what he shows can also be easily done in a Back Clip Cross Section Camera (mainly used for Wall Typical's), where you then add 2D objects manually to detail out what you wish to display using closed polylines to emulate siding and trim objects in profile as it is still done in AutoCAD today and for eons. DJP

This has been addressed multiple times on this forum for years. Chief Users have created numerous solutions for this siding type, take a look. DJP

"If you are mostly doing interior work, try this: - In your General Wall Defaults, set the Resize About to Inner Surface and turn on Show Wall Length When Editing. - In your Auto Exterior Dimension Defaults, turn off Auto Refresh Dimensions - In your Temporary Dimension Defaults, turn on Locate Wall Surface and Locate Both Wall Sides" Default Settings are found under the "Edit Menu" (Edit - Default Settings" where Default Settings can be found by category alphabetically there. Learning to do this BEFORE starting a new plan is the key to efficiency and competence. DJP
